Having received my shiny new Eldar flyer kit in the mail, I was looking at the pieces and thinking it would be quite hard to make use of its dual-kit nature.

Especially the wings (being comprised of 4 separate pieces that you really want to have fit together before priming/painting) pose a difficulty.

The main difference between the two are:
* the weapons, ok these can be easily magnetised
* The tail-fin, a large piece from the tail to just behind the cockpit. This at least has slots so shouldn't be too hard.

* the stabilizer fins on the wings, these are actually part of the wing itself, you can't assemble the wing without having it in place. I could cut the connecting bit off I guess and then magnetise the remains, but I doubt that would be pretty. If you leave them out there's a huge gap all across the wings and assembling it becomes quite a pain. Some sort of support structure below the gap would then be needed to base the magnets on.

Anyone have any ideas?

To illustrate:

With the fin

Note that I have to hold it together or it falls apart.

I have wondered from the first time I saw the new flyer, how wysiwyg it would be if I assemble it as a hemlock and magnetized the weapons. So if I assemble wings as a crimson hunter and magnetize the weapons can I use it as either of two variants? Are wings part of the wysiwyg?

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

I just glued the wings on mine, but did think about what to do if I wanted to magnetize the wings.

It might take some greenstuff to brace them, but it looked like you should be able to drill holes on the parts that the vertical fins sit on. While on the thin side, there is plenty of space inside the wing to brace if needed. You could lay in a whole length of sprue if needed. You would need to use small magnets inside the fins, as they are on the thin side. Because it's all plastic, and none of it is load-bearing, it should be workable even with small ones. Or just use more magnets.

As for WYSWYG, that's a tough call, and dependent on the observer. The wing patterns and silhouette of the fighter are part of the "What you See" part. At a glance, you are not going to see the pod under the body, and the wing weapons aren't that distinctive. Personally, I don't care. A simple weapon swap should appease almost everyone, but there might be sticklers out there who will cry foul. If you are going to an event that requires WYSWYG, check with the organizer, as his opinion will be the one that matters.

I almsot put the central fin on my crimson hunter, just for looks. But figured that level of extra wings sticking out everywhere was getting silly.
