First off, a preemptive apology to the mods if this is a doublepost. Couldn't find this on the forum, so i plopped it onto here m'self.

This isn't exactly the best stuff I've seen out there, I think TJH had a better-looking sturdier set, but, i have to say, these guys hit the nose for price for me. TJH had amazing stuff, but I couldn't afford his price. This is enough for me, might be enough for someone else....

For the kickstarter URL just clicky right here!

I neither represent, nor am I affiliated with Dark Lance Designs.

EDIT: I did not realize this earlier, but this stuff is NOT made out of MDF, but out of plywood.... This is the first time I've heard of using plywood in this way, so I have no idea if this is a good thing, or a bad thing.

A modular, laser cut, 28mm scale, sci-fi style corridor set for table top gaming.

The Sci-Fi Corridors line of terrain kits are designed to be used with 28mm scale figures in table top wargaming, RPG games and some board games. Most kits include the laser cut plywood parts needed to make at least 2 corridor or room sections and the rare earth magnets used to join the completed sections. Some kits also contain additional accessory parts such as ladders, markers or doors. A few specialty kits contain only accessory pieces such as extra doors or markers. Kits come unpainted and require some assembly.

A note on scale: The Sci-Fi corridor sections are described in terms of tiles. One 'tile' is 1.5"x1.5" so the 1x3 corridor in kits A and B is 1 tile wide an 3 tiles long. The size of the floor space in that section is 1.5" wide and 4.5" long. The border of under-decking and sidewalls adds .5" to each side so the overall size of the 1x3 corridor is 4.5" long and 2.5" wide.

Kits? Why Kits? You will notice that we are bundling a few sections into what we are calling a kit. We are doing this because it allows us to cram the largest number of pieces into a single sheet of plywood and still get complete sections on the sheet and in turn, keep your cost lower. It also keeps us from having to manage an inventory of all the individual sections. Eventually we may switch to a section based inventory, but for this project we thought this method would be the most efficient.

Your Pledge: The funding raised from your pledges will help to recoup the cost of the laser cutter and cover the cost of materials and shipping. Shipping to the US is included in all pledge amounts. An additional fee will be required for international shipping of $30 to Canada and $55 to anywhere else. You will need to manually increase your pledge by the appropriate amount for international shipping.

Ordering À La Carte

Backers who pledge the "I'll have À La Carte" or higher levels have the opportunity to order kits à la carte. The process for ordering à la carte is to increase your pledge by $15 for each kit or $30 for each double kit (only Kit M at the moment) you want to order. At the end of the campaign, you'll use the survey to tell us which additional kits you want.
Extras! Bonus Freebies!!

We have been able to squeeze some extras onto some of the cut sheets for the kits. These are included as a bonus with the kits they are cut with. We are still working on the final cut sheets and other extras so we'll let you know what kits the extras are in once we get everything finalized. You will get the extras if you request the kit they're included with as a reward through one of the standard Level pledges, a "You Pick 'Em Level" pledge, or à la carte.
The first extra we have created is the DLD Galactic Freight shipping crates. The crates are about 1"x1"x1.5" with tabs that lock the crates together when stacked. Right now a standard Level 1 set will get 4 crates, Level 2 - 8, and Level 3 - 15.The first extra we have created is the DLD Galactic Freight shipping crates. Due to a huge amount of requests after showcasing our set at a couple of local game shops, we have decided to make sets of 3 DLD Galactic Freight shipping crates available at a $10 pledge level. This pledge level does not allow you to add à la carte kits, but you can add the crates to any à la carte or higher pledge level for $10 per 3 crates.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Before launching this project we have already proto-typed the entire set of kits. The proto-typing gave us a pretty good idea how long it will take to produce the rewards. That said, the most significant challenge would be if we get more pledges for rewards than we can produce by the estimated delivery date. In that case we will do our best to deliver everyone their rewards as quickly as possible and in the order the pledges were received.

Those are pretty nice, but as always overseas shipping kills it for me. Everytime one of these starts up, I almost wish I was back in the US.

The problem I have with a lot of these kit/modular style Kickstarters is it's a royal pain to figure out what I can do with the different levels. For myself, example 'With this level you can build this' shots are essential to understanding what's going on.

I could probably figure this out easily myself by just opening up my Space Hulk box, but because I'm scared to death to even touch it considering it would cost $300 to replace, what level would you need to pledge at to get enough tiles to play all the standard Space Hulk missions? It looks to me like you'd easily be dropping over $100 but that doesn't seem like enough tiles.

aye, and if you remember the TJH kickstarter, it was closer to $800. If you're like me and wanted a fancier board than the two-dimensional tiles.... ehhhh.. I know there are some chaper alternatives to this, but I find this decent for my price-to-time ratio.

mneh. To each their own.

EDIT: I really didn't realize this, but they're not using MDF. They are using Plywood. I don't know how I feel about this.... They've gotten some texture out of the parts, its probably going to feel heavier and sturdier than MDF, but this is the first I've heard of using plywood.

Hello Eveyone,

Greg here from Dark Lance Designs. @poda_t thanks for getting the word out for us. Sorry it took so long for me to find this thread, we've been a little busy trying to get more details up on kickstarter.

I'm sorry about the high cost of non-US shipping. Unfortunately for a small start up like us there is not much we can do about it if we want to cover our expenses. I wish I could ship anywhere in the world for the same cost as shipping in the US.

I completely understand where you are coming from. We have been working very hard to get a full level 3 set cut and put together so we can get those shots. I expect to get them posted tomorrow evening. Before we launched the Kickstarter we had only made a single copy of each kit to test the prototypes. The full level 3 set has as many as 8 copies of some sets. Here is a spreadsheet we put together to show the parts included in the various sets and kits.

We have been trying to not specifically post comparisons to that game but if I can quote our level 3 pledge description:
The Level 3 corridor set contains all of the Level 2 kits plus the following additional kits: B, D, F(x2), H, J, K, L, & M. That is 10 rooms and all the corridors needed to lay out every map of a relatively well known game about combat in a derelict hulking space ship plus some additional dead end and entry corridors, and a complete set of 50 Unidentified Life Form (ULF) markers. Selecting this pledge also provides access to à la carte ordering of additional kits.

Yes, we are using baltic birch 3mm plywood due to not being able to find 1/8" MDF in our local area and it is working very well. Nearly all the parts are etched with textures such as diamond plate, hazard stripes, and different styles of floor grating that paint up very easily with primer and dry bushing. Here's a pic of an intersection where something went horribly wrong for some poor soul. Update 3 has a paining tutorial that shows some various textures well.

If you have any more questions post them up here, Kickstarter, or facebook and we'll try to get them answered as soon as possible.

we now have pics up showing what you get in each pledge level and sample layouts. Here is pledge level 3's layout.

Also the backers have voted for flame markers and wide corridors as stretch goals. We should have some drawings or pics of samples up in a few days.

Hello Everyone,

There are only 2 days left in our Sci-Fi Corridor Set KickStarter project. If you were planning on backing the project and haven't yet, now is the time to do so. We are making wide corridor kits and wall extension kits available in addition to the standard corridor kits. Wide corridor kits have corridors that are 3 tiles wide and include transitions to the standard corridors, corners intersections and straight sections. The wall extension kits will provide the pieces needed to double the height of the walls for a standard or wide corridor kit. More information and pictures for both of these additional groups of kits is available on the Kickstarter page.

We will honor the Kickstarter deals for backers even if we fail to reach our minimum goal. So, if you want some of these corridors, make sure to back us before the deadline if you haven't already.
