Hey all, i just thought that I would pipe in with my 2 cents on the Mantic Elves line. I had not bought anything from Mantic before, and my FLGS happened to have 2 "boxes" of Mantic elves for sale, they were selling both for like 10 bucks (not each, together) so i decided to pick them up. While the sculpts themselves are not the best I have ever seen, they are not as bad IMHO as many people on the forums make them out to be. Now, I do not play HE in WHFB or KOW, so I decided I would use them as High Elves for the LOTR game. I have not painted them yet, but have assembled them and they definitly fit scale wise with the LOTR elves. THey will also stand out from the "wood Elves" in LOTR and be good as High elves. I'm happy with my purchase personally, though I did get them for a ridiculously cheap price...

Cool. Glad you are enjoying them. May your enjoyment of them persist!

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Nice score. For that price, I'd pick some up myself, since I've never seen them in the flesh. The pictures of them online don't make them something I'd want to go out and buy, but 2 boxes (10 per box?) or $10 they'd be worthwhile for conversion fodder if nothing else, and they may well work in LotR.

yea... it was 10 bucks for a box, and they were buy one get one free.... one box of scouts and the other was archers... Pretty good deal i'd say.

I do not think they are that bad either, especially for the price i paid for them. When miniwargaming sold off their stuff I picked up two boxes of 20 elves for 12 bucks then a few days later picked up three boxes of 10 for 7 bucks. I think with a little work they could look alright for some casual gaming.

It is the way of Fenris. We stay as long as we can. Fight as hard as we can. Kill as much as we can. Only when we can do no more do we move on.

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six!

They are very thin - I would say that they give the elves more of a spidery look than a toothpick.

Definitely not a human build.

I like them, but a lot of people disagree. These elves do not look like nice people. As for the Twilight Kin....

I am using them (both the standard elves and the twilight kin) as fey for a Pathfinder game.

And they really aren't nice people.

I like them * a lot *.

I have like 10,000 points of High Elves for WHFB, which I love - I love GW's HE aesthetic (circa 6th edition).

That being said, Mantic's elves are totally different. They are very thin and spidery and their anatomy is not like humans - they have very thin waists, for example. But this is one of those things that makes them very unique, I think. Plus the models are just loaded with detail. I'm very happy with them and I'm very happy with how unique they are.
