Over in the X-Wing news thread in N&R a lot of people responded to the space tile announcement by showing off custom made boards that were done on the cheap using Hubble images. I've called and gotten quotes from literally a dozen copy print centres in my area and the cheapest option I could find was $75. Either these custom boards I'm hearing about are printed on paper towel, or print centres in the US are just that much cheaper than the ones in Canada.

I remember seeing these on TMP. According to that thread he got it from vistaprint.

Oh feth they're 40 bucks?! screw that!

I made this board/mat using some spare landscaping fabric I found in my garage and violently shook different paint colors on it. Works like a charm and looks slick. Save your money and make your own imo.

I do not think that you will find a printer that charges much less than $75. As you can see, the mass produced mats cost $40. A custom one off, will be much more then $40.

If you want to go cheap, get some black cloth (a black sheet) and paint it up.

I got a cheap and decent 4x4 mat from Hotz mats that does the job and looks good.

Why are your TiE fighters blue? I have only seen the grey ones for sale, has FFG changed something or did you repaint them as an homage to the old toy line?

Repaints to look like kenner ties , just like you said!

You could just print a high resolution image of space onto good quality card/paper, would be pretty cheap and yet look pretty good.
