Well, I just wanted everyone to have a place to discuss airsoft and paintball, where they play, what are some of their rules, and things like that. I'm sure you've seen one of these threads before, but I haven't in a while so I put it up. As for me, some of my buddies and I play in an old abandoned field with old houses and cars. We have a really fun time with it and we play lots of games like capture the flag. So what are some of your guy's experiences? I'd also love to hear crazy stories about your airsoft and paintball games.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with airsoft players.

I'm not calling you one of these people OP, nor am I saying your friends do this, but these types do exist and there is a lot of them.
Between airsoft and paintball, that is one of the bigger reasons while I'll never bother with airsoft, it's the players. Paintball has it's fair share of dbags no doubt, but I can show up at a paintball field in something like a business suit (see my avatar), and everyone loves.
Sorry to bring negativity into your thread :(

Oh I assure you I understand Necroshea. Thats why I don't go to official airsoft fields, almost all of the players there are like your example. I completely agree with you. Do you have any cool paintball stories?

Oh, I've got a couple. Went into paintball unsure what exactly I wanted to become at the end of the journey, so I just kind of played until I figured it out. I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather play crazy than play serious, and if you ever were to see me on a field you would understand it. I started out using standard paintball and milsim designs, but after starting to hate the limited mobility of holding something of rifle shape, or with an awkward heavy shape like a standard speedball gun, so I switched over to something a bit more flexible. So I picked up two TipX pistols and decked them out with superficial stuff. Kinda sorta NSFW Here's one of the better photos taken one time when I played in a suit. You'd be amazed how badly people, and little kids in particular, want to shoot you when you dress like this. This one was taken at another location. This picture was taken about 5 minutes before I took this ancient paintball grenade and ran forward screaming frag out before throwing it with the accuracy of a blind man. For my troubles I took a shot square the right nut. Not much can bring me down, but that did. Outside of those and a few other pics, it's hard to remember a certain great story. I've done some crazy baseball slides while firing, I once tripped and managed to do a perfect forward roll recovery. My friend on the other side was about to light me up, but the sheer sight of a big guy like me pulling off that move effortlessly stunned him long enough for me to get to cover. Oh, one more, this one was taken at Dday 2012. That big tube under my right hand? Thats my tank hunting gun. And when I say tank I mean sometimes african style converted tanks to actual freaking tanks driving around with double trouble sentry up top and plenty of ammo and hurt to lay out. No doubt some of the coolest people I've met in my life were at a paintball field.

I'm dying to know what was in that briefcase on a paintball field
Always wanted to do airsoft but the community turned me off of it before I ever really started. Love the idea of something where getting hit doesn't hurt that much, mainly because every time I've played paintball I've been shot in the head somewhere where the mask wasn't covering it.
I played paint ball back in military school, and that was ok. Very first game I ever played, I was shot in the back of the head from 10 feet away. Nearly knocked me unconcious. The next round, a paintball hit me just above the mask on top of my head (I still don't know how I pulled that off) and knocked me over again. I then ran over to a massive spool stood on it's end, and, being clever me, started shooting through the hole.
You know what apparently loves to live inside massive spools? Wasps. You know what wasps don't like? Some idiot slide kicking their home, sticking a paintball gun inside and rapid firing for a good 20 seconds. I've never ran that fast in my life.

Let's start from the beginning.
The entire idea behind the suit was a reaction to the dbag players on the field. After seeing people get mad, and fight, all over a silly game of paintball, I decided that I was going about things all wrong. If these guys are getting uppity while playing, paintball must be serious business right? So Srs bidness saturdays were made. Go to goodwill, spend 25 bucks on an ill fitted but snazzy suit, then go play. The briefcase was just a bit of extra decor to sell the act. However I found out paint pods fit perfectly inside it. Think I got like 6 pods inside that sucker. Heavy as hell, but it matched the set so I said hell let's do it.

There was apparently a group that were well known for picking on new players who played at a local place, so to knock them down a peg or two he got a group of friends from the TA and took the idiots to pieces. Apparently it was hilarious seeing these guys with there own super duper gear being totally destroyed by what they thought was some guys with rented gear an no idea what they were doing.

Back in my airsoft days, we had these guys that were rawr, hardcore. The best part about these players is they use real world tactics, which made them /extremely/ predictable and things like interlocking fields of fire don't work properly when your guns shoot 200ft or so.
I was the sniper, I had my "goon squad" group of 15 to 20 buddies who we would generally hang out, have a good time, show new players the ropes, run squads/teams/games, we're there to have fun.
Every once in a while one of these "hardcore" teams would show up from 30 minutes or so away, and we'd have to break them in by playing seriously, we would absolutely shred them. It wouldn't even be funny, my personal best was a sniper game, 4v40, 3 of my 4 man team got shot in the first engagement, they quit when I knifed a scout, shot his two buddies, came under fire, ran down a hill behind a felled pine, crawled along it (apparently unseen but I'm not sure how) to the next pine, and slowly stood up against it/inside the tree, they turned the corner, saw I was gone via magic, and quit on the spot, there were 5 left.
This was back in the day when stock guns shot ~250fps and 400fps was an unreliable pipe dream, so you had time to dodge (usually) you couldn't cut through brush (usually) guns/batteries lasted a really long time and it was a ton of fun. My rifle was a tanaka Kar98 that was tuned for accuracy, not power, which seems to be a foreign concept nowadays, I stopped posting on arnies (was a mod for a while on the sniper forums) due to the constant emphasis on "you need 600fps, you need a 6.01 barrel, you need to free float it, you need to spend $300+ on external nitrogen, ect) and other idiotic concepts. I have a friggen TM mk23 that shoots farther/better than any of these kids rifles
I think fps killed airsoft, when I first started we had a rule, if you caught the bb, the other person was out, thats how hard things fired, it was as silly as it was fun. Now its all a a club where old "vet" soldiers who dont understand how to have fun and bro's gather to swing their peni at eachother.
When I played it was awesome to have a town made of blue tarps with some windows cut out, now you need to spend hundreds on wood to build a real town, that no one comes out for build days for and build something that they can break for no reason. When I played everyone was there to camp and have fun, now I have kids that refuse to go grab some wood for the fire because "I didnt pay 20 bucks to go get wood"
Screw those entitled douche kids, really.

(I've not played airsoft so don't get what you're saying). Sounds like its gone from a club to a business. Is that location specific or game specific?

I used to play airsoft 2-3 times a month, but as Necroshea has pointed out, the MilSim/win-at-all-costs guys are taking over the fields, and really ruining it for me.
But over the years of playing airsoft, I've had plenty of good experiences. I've participated in several ops that had over 100 people playing, and tons of smaller, invite only ops. Too many good times/stories to go into it. I still play on occasion, but it's only when my old group of about 8 people all manage to get off work, and go on the same day. And anymore, we just stick to open play, and hope that it's a good crowd of people that are just playing for fun...

I've got some friends that are into it. I've gone to airsoft with them 3 or 4 times and it's OK I guess. I'm not really big into the whole gun fantasy thing, and it doesn't really seem to attract a crowd I really like. Still, It's good exercise and the whole trying to get the drop on people thing is fun. In general though I think I prefer games that don't potentially have me getting welts.

FPS = power, baiscally at lower power levels the game is more fun, you have more time to dodge, its realistic to take cover in brush and bushes and such. As china got into the airsoft game and started producing higher powered guns, safety equipment had to follow suit and now you pretty much have to wear a full face mask, teeth guard, and tac gear to avoid bb's cutting through exposed skin.

Hehehe
The few times I played it if you were close someone (but not close enough to touch them) on the other team you were meant to give them an opportunity to surrender rather than risk bruising them. I flanked someone called for him to surrender, he looked at me and went back firing at my team, I said "Last chance - Surrender", then he turned to shoot at me so I made sure that his coverall were nicely redecorated. He then stormed off whining to a marshall about how much he hurt from being shot up close

I'll agree with this. People sporting newer KWA's and Polar Stars really make it hard to play against, since they fire at about 400-500 FPS (depending on the field, and their regulations on FPS) and with a crazy high ROF. And most people with those guns are the hardcore players, that do everying to win. There are exceptions, but that's the case most of the time for me...

yeah you haven't lived until you've had to pop a bb out of your skin like a zit apparently, but they do lose a ton of energy and just sting a lot if they hit baggy clothing, the bb's weigh around .25 of a gram so they dont have much inertia to follow through clothing. as opposed to a handfull of years ago when they were coming at you like a baseball, just fast enough for you to dodge, barely.
not for me i'm too old for that nonsense, maybe i'll throw a totally excursive old man game, lol

Yup. I know a couple people with chipped teeth since they only wear goggles, and not a full face mask. Hell, I have some minor scarring on one of my thighs from getting lit-up from about 10 feet away after getting the drop on some kid, and scaring him (I was only wear some very thin camo pants). Guns now are no joke. Fields now generally have a 10-foot "safety kill" rule - if you're within that 10-15 foot area, you should "Safety!" instead of actually shooting them from that close of range.

Old Sourpuss
|
5 years ago, "target paintball" became a "cub scout safe activity", well the camp I was doing grounds keeping at wanted to hop on this wagon and grabbed a few "decent" paintball guns and ammunition. The ranger staff was allowed to test these one night against a massive pile of lumber that was being carted out by a lumber company. We were being paid by the lumber company to let them take the lumber out of camp (they would cut it, trim it, and remove it). The local BSA council agreed, on the terms that they opened the pathways 10 feet on both sides, took any sickly trees, and didn't log anything that was healthy and under or over specific heights.
While we were testing these, we were marking up the lumber when one of the other guys on staff asked if he could shoot me in the foot. I'd never been shot with a paintball, and was wearing steel toed boots, so I agreed. He shoots me three times and on the third time hits just past where the steel was, and got my foot, which was apparently his whole plan. I was hobbling a for a bit .
I've got 2 airsoft stories...
Um... I've never played Airsoft, though I've stabbed myself in the leg because of it. One night during Xmas break, I was staying at uni to get some extra on campus work before I left for the holiday. My big brother (in our fraternity) was on a date with his gf, he came back to the house and we hung out. He showed me his new butterfly knife (not very sharp), and was goofing around with a spring loaded airsoft pistol someone had left lying around. He aims and shoots me in the air. I recoil in pain, and accidentally stabbed myself in the leg (barely a scrape) with his knife...
And back in twenty ought 5 (2005) I was working at the camp in the first story, it was my first "real job" and I was working with this little kleptomaniac that would just steal anything he could get his hands on, and was decent at not getting caught but he got the entire kitchen staff in trouble near the end of camp, I almost lost a paycheck because of him. So this kid was into the "tacticool" aspects of airsoft, talked about how his brothers and him would play on their property, and all of the cool stories about leading his brothers to a victory, with hand signs, and radios, and anything to make it seem like they military bad asses. He almost got me to buy a few airsoft rifles, but I knew I'd get them taken away since my parents were pretty anti-gun... But that doesn't matter now as I have a rifle and a hand gun at home, and my parents know about them .

funny story, at my local field you can chose to accept or reject the surrender (because people are "hardcore" and wanted to be able to take it, or something.
anyways, after I murdered his entire team, a guy ran up on me with an MP5k and ordered I surrender as I was standing from where I was, my failt, should have looked before getting up. I'm looking at him and he's like "surrender" I say no, and chamber a round from my bolt action. He fires, his gun is EMPTY, safety ranges are now off and i'm holding the most powerful gun any of them have ever seen, and I dont like this kid.
Look of terror and a chase ensues, he trips over a root, falls, I put the gun to his chest, put my finger on the side of the hammer so it won't feed the bb, and fire. his face of "OH GOD HERE IT COMES" and then "why didnt that hurt?" was priceless.
I'm like "I'm still counting that, okay?" as I eject and rechamber the round with the barrel still on his chest.
He agrees, lol.

Its 500 FPS.
I've played airsoft for I guess about ~8 years now.
Its started with my brothers and I shooting eachother with $10 crossman pistols. Over the years we got our friends into the sport, got better guns, and found other groups to play with.
I started with a $10 pistol
I then was given a shotgun that is worth $40, and I played with that thing for 5 years about. It was a great gun. As other people started buying into AEGs that could shoot farther than my shotgun, I had to change my play style a lot. I couldn't face anyone head to head anymore, I had to completely rely on hiding in bushes, and waiting for people to pass by so that I could shoot them in the back point-blank.
Last year I got a $210 AK (around 430 FPS) for $170. It was weird using such an incredible gun after using that shotgun for so long. I just got a green-laser pointer mounted on it and that thing is amazing.
There is this other group of people that my crowd will play with, and one of them owns a farm and the nearby woods. Both of (i think) the coolest games we played one night with them. The first game we did was called Infected. Basically there is an alpha zombie with so many lives. Anyone the alpha shoots becomes a zombie, the object of the humans is to kill the alpha, the object of the zombies is to protect the alpha and kill the humans. The zombies also had a respawn point they would go back to when they were killed. There was one point in the game were it came down to me and a few other people hiding in the middle of a field behind some tree stumps hoping the horde wouldn't see us. It was really dark outside by now, and it was almost impossible to see the zombies. I turned on my laser pointer, popped out of cover, and started marking zombies with it and shooting. Eventually me and my two mates had to retreat because there was no flippin way we could hold them back. After running around like a maniac through all the warehouses and barns, I saw the alpha, shot him, and apparently it was his last life and we won the match. Afterwards the zombies were talking about how the laser pointer was the scariest thing they ever saw because every time it marked someone, they were always shot immediately... and apparently one of the people I marked in the field was the alpha, who preceded to get completely wrecked. But yeah, it was a cool game.
The other game that was awesome was a CQB game we set up in a barn. We split everyone into 2 even teams. One team went into the barn (which was a maze of countless stalls with only 1 entrance.) The other team had to go into the barn, and kill everyone hiding in it. Let me tell you it was the scariest game I have ever played. You don't know if there will be someone hiding in the next stall or not, if there is, you will most likely get sprayed by them. I was on the team that had to go into the barn and clear it out. I had the idea of cutting the power to the barn so all the lights went out. We cut the power, entered, turned in back on and shot who we could, turned it off and moved on. We basically did that til the barn was clear, but it was an awesome game
One day we also had the epic idea of playing in the woods at nighttime... and I wasn't familiar with their woods. My buddy and I got separated from our team at the very beginning and so we said screw it, and decided to go lone wolf and try and get behind the enemy team.We walked around the woods forever til we got onto this huge hill in the woods, and we were promptly spotted by the enemy team waaay down the hill (there was still enough light out for that). Me and my buddy just went prone in the brush, which was enough to shield vision from the sides but not if someone was right next to us. There were some logs to our left, and some pine trees immediately to our right. We waited and waited, and by the time the other team got to the top of the hill it was pitch black outside. Apparently their team split into 2 groups to find me and my buddy, cause we heard them to our immediate left and right. The group on the left (was about 40 ft. from us) shouted some code, and the group on our right responded. The freaky part was that the voice from the group on the right came from right next to me. If there was any light at all, he would have seen me and my buddy and we would have been done for. If he had taken another step he would have stepped on me... it was scary. I heard them say that we must have gotten away, which made me incredibly relieved, but just as they were going back down the hill I heard my brother (who was on their team) mention there was no way we got away, and he preceded to get out his tac. flashlight and scan the area. He walked right next to me and shone it on my face, and I had to shoot him at point blank, which probably hurt a lot. Me and my buddy bolted farther into the woods right away (still quite alive)... and then a thiick fog settled on the woods... in the middle of the night. We could see at all, we were deep in the woods, and we had no idea where we were. It tooks us the rest of the night to figure out our way back to the rest of the group.

I always wanted to try airsoft or paintball.
Sadly it is expensive, with a gun taking up half my paycheck. Automatically Appended Next Post: Although, because i love to bring this story up.
My friend at a paint ball once, thinking it was a gumball, despite the fact the guy that gave it to him was dressed in full Paintball gear.

My cousin owns a paintball field so he got me into paintball. Living in the big city made playing pretty difficult on a regular basis, but I still own a Tipman 98 (rusted, but otherwise clean and in good condition after about 8 years of brutal play). I want to do D-Day so badly. :( I have a few stories. I've bunkered an old plywood shelter so hard I smashed through it all the way to the other side like a Space Marine and just kept going because I was being shot at the whole time from my flank. Sounds dumb, but my other option was to try and fight my way through a crap ton of trees and bushes. I didn't really understand why the owners of the field were pissed at me until I found out that there was a guy behind it that was so terrified by the explosion of wood that he didn't shoot me and got shot out by his own team. Got a bit of a redemption though when a ref there found out I shot a "wiper" (guy who cheats by wiping the paint off himself) by shooting him directly in the face and the whole field saw him do it. My all time favorite story about paintball was an unmatched game of 15 new/semi new players against myself an experienced, but general non-competitve player, a veteran of several tournaments I will call Steve, and four new players. As a joke, my cousin said he'd time us to see how long we could survive. After me and Steve decided the hell with it and devised an all out offensive strategy of running to the middle of the field we ducked our heads and sprinted forward. The game ended with steve flanking and me bunkering a guy at the other end of the field on the 35th second. 15 - 2 outs. Our favor. By far the best game I will ever play. I will never forget my cousin laughing his butt off at Steve and I jumping up and down like madmen that we got out alive. The rest of the day Steve and I were upon opposing teams, ordering the new guys to kill Steve or myself. It was a great day, one that even the new guys really got into after their thrashing and quickly became very capable foes and teammates.

You can always save up and just rent a gun for a day to play at a local field. I think you'll find the bigger cost is the paint balls you go through vice the gun. Or find someone with a used gun they are willing to part with cheaply. Jake (has a Tipman 98c with a flatline barrel and a hose for running off a tank on my back).

Its actually rather cheap, once you get your initial gun, used is an option, and the gear, you're don
BB's are like 20 dollars for a bag of 5000 or more, which last forever if you aren't crazy, and batteries you just recharge.
