Subject: Female space marines project... Now also called Angels of Vengeance (non SM female SM)
|

Pulsating Possessed Chaos Marine
|
I know i know...I'm one of those. Still I want to get dakkas opinion on a project.
To make said female space marines I was going to use
Dark elder wyches for legs
Wood elf glade guard for heads
zealot torsos for bodies
http://www.zealotminiatures.co.uk/#!__zealot-store/kadesh-female-bodies
For arms...i have no ideas...maybe scouts......
the heads I'm unsure of...I looked all over gods creation and could not find female heads that were a good fit
I want them to be attractive ...I don't care about how realistic that is or is not, its my fantasy world..
What would you guys change, add or keep? All recommendations are welcome and hoped for
Thanks!!

An interesting idea. I'll not go down the whole 'you can't do it because 40k doesn't have female marines' route, as I'm sure you know it would never happen excetera, excetera.
However, I'm interested to see the end product just as a point of curio.
Have you any thoughts as to how bulky you'll make them as the idea of a 40K Space Marine is genetically enhanced - hence bigger bodies. Or will you stick with a slimmer model, even if it just looks like a un-enhanced SoB?
Personally, I wouldn't use the Wych legs simply for the fact that another typical feature of a 40K Space marine is the fully enclosed armour. The Wych legs are semi-armoured and hence no good in hazardous environments such as Space Marines operate in.

Do i smell heresy? I dont know if those torsos will match up well with the wych legs It would probably best to robe them to blend the different parts.

They should be pretty tough looking and huge; like as tall and wide shouldered as a space marine! like they could beat the crap out of anything and bench-press 350 pounds. Are you gonna give them shoulder pads btw?

Okay first off i don't want to bash your idea or anything(especially as i work on my own female CSM ) But you will notice that i have some mixed opinions and thoughts on your project. First of a few things that might help you fill a few of the missing bitz: Meow Meow Minis actually sell (or sold once) female marine models: http://www.meowmeowminis.com/ Heads: http://statuesqueminiatures.shop033.com/ http://basicks.eu/shop/index.php?id_product=207&controller=product&id_lang=1 I have used those wood elf heads too but they don't have that much variance in them as most have those strange leather leaf whatever it is on their faces. And now a few thoughs on wargear and why i wouldn't use your approach to it. Athough in the end just do what you like. It is your idea and your army and if you want to do it and have fun during it them do it. Power Armor: Marines - whatever gender they have - wear power armor. And it would hide all of the gender specific propotions. The only way to show a female power armor would mean that your marines would either need much effort of reworking their "holy" wargear or adding additional details to it to show their gender. Space marine armor is a mass produced thing and the knowledge on working and especially reworking it is limited. So a female power armor would still look very similar to a basic marine one. The legs and maybe the torsos too you intend to use don't look like astartes power armor to me. The legs are way to slim for my taste and don't look that armored. And the problem with finding arms will just get worse as i think that massively armored arms next to those thinner legs would look somewhat strange. Also dark eldar legs with all their spikes and sharp stuff does suit chaos better than loyalists. Have you thought on useing normal eldar legs? Weapon size: Marine weapons are massive and some are looking even silly in normal power armored arms. Useing different arms will mostly result in them being smaller and more silly looking. So that means that you'd have to either use marine arms or use IG weapons as counts as for a better scale and convert those weapons IG don't have. Ideas: Have you thought about useing your models as sisters of battle instead of Space Marines? You'll get into a lot less hassle with that. And as they share most of their weapons you can still use space marine parts for that. Also your conversions will work better for sisters as for marines in my opinion. Just use normal Marines and put female heas on them (Although i thing that this isn't an option for you as you seem to look for a conversion project and not just a marine army with headswaps.) Or use your approach for scout models and then continue to read how i did my female marine army. And how i did mine: My goal was to use power armor and still create female models. My approach was a more true scale based one. I lengthened the legs and the hips slightly while still useing space marine parts. This way you'll get slimer models, especially if you don't bulk out the hip area too much (but also not to slim or it looks silly) while still use marine parts (less conversion cost). To further show their gender i added small green stuff breast plates. But the size is important. I never wanted to go down into the "rocket boobs syndrome" area so i only used very little GS there. Reposing the arms was required from time to time as some arms are ment to go flat onto the torso and the breast plates where in the way. Then just add a few non helmeted female heads and the squad is finished. Less cost on bitz for a single model, better swapability with normal GW kits and they are true scale. But truescaling every model costs more time and some GS skills (but not too much i think).

Apples and oranges mate. You'll find very few people have a problem with Female CSM (esp. those of a Slaaneshi persuasion) due to it simply being Chaos and there being a myriad of odd ways they will "innovate" or even mutate into a ladymarine. Fabius Bile might have a few experiments in this area. It's also canon to a certain extent. As in Storm of Iron we see a female IG officer slowly become the Avatar of Khorne by putting on Kroeger's armour (but even then no-on can tell it is not Kroeger).
Imperial OTOH. It smacks of smelly fanboi nerd stereotype to many people (myself included). You get bad conversions of "Bewbs LOL" simply being bolted onto normal SM models, such as with Doctor Thunder's infamous ones. As I touched on earlier, the OP is going to get a lot of bad vibes from people who see this obsession with female SM as being detrimental to the image of our hobby. Not everything has to be rule 63'ed. SOB are that anyway. It is never done tastefully and just makes me shake my head in disbelief that people think their idea is new. This is well trodden ground. May as well make them Pre-heresy and also one of the two lost legions too whist were at it.

On backstory:
I've seen some tries of creating the backstory for a female loaylists marine chapter as i planed out my own female army. Corruted/changed gene seed, technology from before the heresy that allows female astartes, one of the missing primarchs ... non really fits. The only one that i found remotely accepteable was a chaos influenced chapter that beat of the corruption but was changed during it, similar to theSoul Drinkers.
The funny thing was that the models where standard marines and all had helmets because they couldn't show their faces or the inquisition would hunt them down as heretics. Nearly non of the models where remotely female.
There a two ways of explaining female marines that might induce less nerd rage.
1) Don't even try to explain it. Just say: "I'm silly." and leave it there. This works best if your conversion is actually good enough to stand on it's own
2) "Chaos did it."
So this is one thing to consider for your army plan: Can you ignore the nerdrage that female loyalist marines will probably induce and still have fun building your army?
If yes? Then go with it.
Alternatively there is SoB or female CSM like i did that is more accepted. Or why not chaos SoB?
(If i had my current conversion and sculpting skills then as i started warhammer i'd probably had a chaos SoB army folloing Khorne now. )

I have and...I hate to say it while I like there story and what not I hate their look...I'll be honest, I want my space marines to look kind of hot and female. Also SOB's are soooooo expensive...8 dollars a shot at last check.

Oh yes, I’m aware the fluff prevents the guurl space marine from happening at all. So....for sake of not being put to the gun for heresy, let’s call them "Angels of Vengeance." Woman warrior class with stats equal to a Space Marine. As for design I'd like to make them slimmer looking and decidedly female. Arms seem hard to find on that front
Grimtuff wrote:Mark my words, this will not end well. It is never done tastefully and just makes me shake my head in disbelief that people think their idea is new.
Lol...You may be right. an while I certainly do not think my idea is new...I would like to see it actually successfully done in some way....modelers make models.....
Depends on the arms I use...certainly not the standard giant sm shoulder pad though

Bash away man .....i opened the door and I would like to hear what you guys have to say.
You bring up good points and those heads you found from statuesqueminiatures are really nice. i may get some to add variety to my selection of heads. I know that armor tends to defeminize a person but as im trying to actually craft a "pretty/beautiful/attractive/whatever" i don’t want to just use straight power armor.
fluff wise I can call them whatever, but I don’t want to field a sob army.
once again...arms....maybe eldar arms to match the legs.....
your welcome

Yeah then go for it.
Maybe try and replace the dark eldar legs with normal eldar ones and use the arms too.
And the guy in this link used dark elf warrior legs and torsos (there are actually a few female torsos in the warrior box)
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?49560-Valkyries-of-the-Omnissiah-Female-Space-Marines-WIP-Pics-%28Lots-of-Pics%29
And what is with raging heroes kickstarter models? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/loudnraging/raging-heroes-the-toughest-girls-of-the-galaxy
Some of them(heavy trooper) have an armored look.
Then there is this guy on shapeways that has done a bunch of parts that are looking like warhammer compatible, including the so called "star marines" who are designed to be more feminine. And he does some female torsos too. But it would be very pricy for a full army. Maybe an option for some elite choises/ HQ ones.
http://www.shapeways.com/designer/dynath
And depending on your hobby skills you could try to create your own bitz and pieces or at least sculpt stuff on like armor plates on those wych legs. Or add breastplates to some torsos.

Your sculpting skill are impressive sir and much beyond mine. Well done
I was eyeballing the Valkyrie stuff when i was building my master plan and i got some inspiration from it to be certain
And what is with raging heroes kickstarter models?
I'm into that kick-starter for quite a bit..chaos and IG replacements
Thanks for that star army link, there's some good stuff there......arms still elude me but making the switch to guardians might be a good idea as well. Im still think scout arms but I'm afraid that put against the legs they might be too bulky.
I'm sort of holding out for zealot who says hes been sculpting some legs for his torsos, I'm interested to see how they come out

As far as i know those torsos are ment to be female tau. So matching legs will probably not fit with what you want to go for - tau models have hoofs.

Don't know if this would help but I wanted to make Slaaneshi female marines and,
1. Got robogear soldier bodies as they were cheap as dirt and nicely proportioned for the job. (They're supposed to be male, but have an enlarged chestplate and tapered limbs. Weird.)
2. GW arms and weapons, raptor arms worked best. (I left the poltroons off as they look stupid IMO and just painted the upper arms as shoulder pads.
3. Cut, trimmed and re-glued a chaos backpack to make it more compact, then molded that.
4. Heads from just about everywhere, including castoff heroclix.
These need some serious paint touchups, but I got the streamlined corrupted Sisters of Battle look I was going for. I wanted "scary sexy", feminine without going down the BEWBS!!1! road. (I hope I achieved that to some level, if I may delude myself for a moment.) Thus I have the added joy of disappointing both types of sexist neckbeard; the kind who want to stare at cheesecake and the kind that have apoplectic fits over non -4S female soldiers. And that's before I take out my Slaaneshi Kaldor chaos lord!

Ah, the age-old rule 63 Spess Mehren debate.
I once had an idea for a Space Marine chapter that committed some great atrocity, and as penance became female through painful surgery. It was awful.I regret even thinking it up.
I cannot find a way to make actual female loyalist Space Marines work. Even if someone could, they would, armour-wise, loom exactly the same as a regular Marine, unless the armour was deliberately stylized in the manner of Greek breastplates and such. And even under the armour, all the steroids and muscle augmentation would leave them looking barely female anyway.
CSM, I think you could get away with, because mutation, obscene experimentation, Slaanesh, etc...

Its not really a debate about whether it could happen or not. Certainly within the confines of grimdark lore The "female sm is not supposed to happen. However it is the super fare flung future with technology completely unheard of by us backward mortals. Theirs no good reason that somebody couldn't have done something to somehow make a augmented woman. However I'm off topic...I'm gonna make em regardless. Just getting ideas on what parts to use.

Update. My female space marines look nothing like female space marines but actually look pretty good imo. Still needs the other shoulder pad.
& foot tall amazons with advanced shield technology who fight with bolter and spear. they'll be my count as vanguard or assault marines, if i can find some way to give them a jump pack or mechanical wings or something.

Well they look cool but are definitely not space marines. Have you considered using a more appropriate counts as army? One that perhaps doesn't involve statlines that reflect being superhumanly buff, tough, and wearing crazily bulky armor?

I have 4 armies right now that I'm trying to paint, convert build etc etc. If I could proxy in my current SM army with grey knights than maybe....
My current armies fluff is that there a renegade chapter but not chaos. Like a big group of sm that got disillusioned with the emperor and have gone off on their own to be mercs that fight for the highest bidder. Hence theyll hire on anyone who can fight.

These are "Terminator crotch plates"
They're the armour plates that hang off a terminator's belt but as a separate bit. I hope you can find them useful as shoulder pads or the like
