You all know who I'm talking about. He's the guy who barges into every GW-related thread and derails every topic with hackneyed price complaints, or a reminder about this or that kickstarter and how superior it's prices/miniatures are compared to the evil empire. He's TFG in your local store who interrupts your games of 40k to point out how he bought 30 pts of Khador for the same price as your Riptide.
I opened this thread to create a dialogue on what I call "the new wargaming hipster:" the guy who just can't leave GW fans alone, who has to insist on throwing out insults, referring to GW customers as "sheep" who only play Warhammer because they are unaware of how great this obscure kickstarter is, how much better DreamForge's titan is compared to GW's big kits, how Privateer Press' community interaction and rules design is so superior, how Mantic is cheaper, how Bandai Gundam kits are more cost-effective, etc etc.
Frankly I think a few people need to take a step back and seriously evaluate their lives. I, as a GW fan, do not barge into PP or kickstarter threads to laugh at their lack of production muscle or question their design decisions, because I respect that there is a market for each. All I would ask is that these people do the same.
As an example, I recently ventured into the new apocalypse thread thinking there would be fellow fans talking about the new kits, what this means for the game etc. Instead I already see new buzzwords for the Khorne battle engine emerging, complaints about prices and the company's direction, insults being thrown back and forth. It makes me sad, and I do believe the new warmaging hipster is entirely to blame. When PP first emerged, did you see GW fans talking smack about the game in every thread? No, we left them alone because it was a cool new game. If only our fellow wargamers could do the same. Alas, the hipster is not content to let other people enjoy their hobby: no, he must make you aware that his hobby is better than yours.
If you are interested in real discussion on this topic, its history and future development, this is the thread for you. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
