So I have a Necron army that's about 2000-2500 points worth as well as a Tau army that's 2000-2500 points worth and I noticed that I really don't see myself being able to put, say, my Riptides, Triarch Stalker, or especially my Wraith's with whip coils inside a typical foam carrying case. Has anyone found a good way to handle these for transportation? I know just about any case from GW or Battlefoam will be fine for my troops, battlesuits, and other models. I just see the whip coils breaking off VERY easily inside a case and also the Riptides just wouldn't fit, especially my posed one.

Thanks for any advice! Are there a few typically best recommended carrying case companies out there?

Personally i like feldherr stuff, you can find them on dakka ads i think, however the best i can think for something like riptides would maybe to double up on foam layer, im not sure the depth you would need for a rip but for example, maybe a deep tank/monstrous pluck foam to seat in, and another to cover, or an infantry foam modified to cover, then make the best of the spce left in the pluck foam.

Later on, once you plan how you build the model, you might find ways of magnetizing and pinning the models to they cme apart. I have six razorbacks, with alternate turrets, along with 2 custom whirlwind turrets taking up one tray in my army transport bag. The bolter turrets and alternate hatches are in an auxiliary bits tray, though I could dump them inside the land raider... This is all inside the army transport bag ( conveniently, no identifier on the bag, but it's the tall one, with only one tray fed in one at a time, for an average of 7 trays in the case). You won,t know how to do this until you get the cases, get the magnets, and the styrene straws along with large gauge brass/steel rods.

Building the model to be magnetic, and pinned, and disassembleable will kill a lot of time, but begin with the thought experiments now...

What I suggest right now, is get a separate case, find a friend with pluck foam, and steal all of it. Contour the case's insides to be the negative of your model, and plop it in. Pluck foam can be sown together for extra hold, and glued into place. You can also use sheets of Kraft felt, purchased from your local dollar store, with dryer lint and shredded felt to form the protective "foam". Pass newspaper through a paper shredder, and though not as gentle, it will keep the model protected in whatever case you put it in. (usually issues in getting it in and out, diddly bits might give, but otherwise, it's safe)

I have a metal lunch tin I never use that I glued pluck foam pluckings into to store my khadoran army. Works like a charm.
Edit. Where I mention pluck foam, read pluck foam PLUCKINGS.

Home brew your cases. I spent some cash on empty pelican cases that I fill with foam trays that I cut myself. You can easily get some locking containers from Walmart and do the same thing.

You could even do a fairly stiff sided piece of luggage with wheels on it so you can roll it along. It all depends on how much time you want to sink into making trays.

Or find a container that you can slide battle foam trays into.

For individual larger pieces you could get some flight cases or rifle cases and go to town butchering the foam inside.

All very good advice! Battlefoam's custom cutouts are amazing but very expensive heh plus I don't like the colors of their cases/bags at all.

The new Apocalypse Gamers Edition for 250 comes with a massive carrying case but it looks like it's basically only for vehicles and large models, as it looks like 4-5 inch trays only =(
