My wife and I got in to Warhammer 40k this year and we set up our own table. I paint everything and we are up to roughly 2000 points on either side now.

I take photos always intending to do battle reports but I always fail to write down everything, so here's just a showcase of our stuff.

I painted Battletech stuff when I was a kid so I had a little bit of background going in to it.

So far Ive done 30 gargoyles, 28 termagaunts, 12 hormagaunts turned Genestealers, Trygon, Hive tyrant, swarm lord, 6 zoanthropes, two hive guard, venomthrope, tyrannofex and two tyrant guard. So I can speed paint my nids now because the scheme is the same, its her
easter egg eldar army that takes a lot of time.

Up next, gotta make a volcano and ice pillars for our snow/ash table.

It's always great seeing a unique tyranid color scheme, but it's also tough to find a good one and pull it off well - you've done both. Looks great!

Very nice indeed! Not just the models, but the terrain looks fantastic too.

Wish that my wife was interested in 40k/wargames as it would be great to turn the spare room into a gaming room

Hey thank you, I picked out a 'tiger' scheme early on, gotta go with the favorite colors.

Thanks, we went to lowes and spent about $80. Three colors of basalt later with elmers glue and plaster and you've got yourself a table for under $120.

We wanted to play Warhammer for about 4 years before we had time to, I'm military so we just now have a good gaming situation. It's a really, really great hobby to share with a spouse.

I'm pretty jealous. You've got a great table, two greatly painted armies, and a wife who will share the game with you. Jackpot!

Your paintjobs are excellent, and your setup is something worthy of envy. However, it kills me that you haven't done any basing on these minis! They'd look amazing if they shared the same basing as the table you play on.

Thanks all...my wife is really, really in to it. It was a big deal in our house when the new codex came out.

As for basing...I kinda made that decision early on because we plan on doing more than one table, we have the squares for it already and it will be green and jungle-like. It would irritate me to no end having mismatched terrain, so I decided to forgo it.

This is really awesome, dude. I want to do this with my girlfriend someday. For now, she's starting a daemon army and is a good painter right off the bat. If we can do what you guys are doing I think it will bring us closer together and keep us from going out and spending money.

You can get clear acrylic bases from a number of different stores online which might suit you if you want to have an army which can be at home on any table. Some places will even engrave them (such as with an army symbol or squad numbers etc).

I appreciate the fact that you are allowed to keep a large table like that set up in the middle of the room. Even if my wife allowed me to do that, I'd be forever chasing the cat off of it.

We are right at 2000 points with the addition of her new Crimson Hunter, but we still use 10 fake Warp Spiders because they have been out of stock for a few weeks now. : /

The table is a bit in to the left to give us some spare room, but we have plans to make an 8 square table in a few weeks, which will just be adding two squares to allow regular games and bigger scale stuff as we grow our armies.

We finally played against other people two weeks ago, we bent the rules and had Tyranid/Eldar vs Orks/Necrons. We lost but it turns out they were playing their rules all wrong, and as they are newish to those armies its forgiven but we probably would have had a much better chance.

Heres some photos, we played Brothers in Battle.

This is a terrible photo, but I just made this movable tree thicket. We played a game of the relic yesterday with the relic starting in the trail I put in between the trees, it provided some interesting strategies.

I have a proper 6x4 setup in my mancave... and my gal is all cool with it (as I built her a stage/stripper pole in the living room).... but MY GOD THE CATS

If I'm in there workin on models with door closes... cry constantly at door... so let them in...

and bam! onto the table... to roll around on/sharpen claws on! My board has a modular hardboard top with flock/sand glued on... and when the cat rolls on that stuff... he is just covered in flock! must be static electricity or something. He really pulls it off with just a quick 1-2 roll.

really jealous that you are your mate play together and have such a good time. I can't get my gal interested at all!

Not to be sappy but Warhammer 40k has been great for us, its replaced video games for us...if you can get a significant other interested I highly recommend it because its got a great dynamic.

No cats, we are dog people, so the main thing we live in fear of is the 11 month old stealing things or ruining another codex, haha.

The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

Wow! Awesome models, awesome table, awesome wife, all around awesome!

I know you said you didn't want mismatched terrain, but I'll echo what Brother SRM has said-they really need some kind of basing. Just a quick, fairly generic "earth and grass" job will do-apply some Texture paint, give it a drybrush, and apply some grass. If you go for something fairlyuniversal it shouldn't look out of place.

Wait until the cat climbs onto the painting table and lies down in front of you ... right in the glue and wet paint.

Washing the cat off in the sink was no fun.

Thanks to this awesome article I made some tyranid capillary spires finally. I modified it to look the way I wanted but I think the next towers will look cleaner, Im going to add plaster to the mix and get it to look more 'official'.

Also added 12 more termagants to a total of 40, my time for 12 of them to paint is down to an hour and a half. Hopefully I never need to paint more.
I ebayed these guys and they accidently sent hormagant bodies, but I think I actually like the look of these more. Their blue devourers let me
tell them apart from my other units which is helpful with tervigon spawning.

How'd you make those Capillary Chimneys? They are so cool, I am wanting more Tyranid terrain for my boards when I play my brothers and friends! Gets a bit too imperialy at times, not enough alien going on!

They are coming! I feel them scratching inside my mind, scratching, screaming, running, so many...so, so many voices. They're coming for us - flesh, body and soul!

What do you get if you attach a laser sight to a Lasgun? Twin-linked!

Hey thanks man, Id like to start trying to become a better painter so hopefully the next few units will start to improve.

Also in the next month or so we are expanding the size of our board so things should start to look cooler, we want to ease into Apocalypse scale games next year.

Gotta get some materials to make webway gates too.

I made a new square today for the board. I like our swamp tile but no one uses it, it gets avoided most games. So until we expand the board I wanted some more elements going on.
