Bandai has recently begun a new line of bits packs for Gundam model kits, a number of the offerings could be useful for folks converting other models. Most of these bits packs are about $5

I've dreamed of playing a small tactical tabletop game with mobile suits, maybe 3-5 models.

That thruster set is ace.

Great, now I'll have yet another reminder of how much cheaper Gundam is than 40k...

You could do tabletop Gundam- there's been various lines of trading figures/ supermarket goodies/ vending machine lines/ prize figures/ soda cap collector lines that translate well to having piles on the table.

The SD Gundam Gashapon Wars gacha gacha were the best for this. 100 yen each, decent sculpts and colors, around fifty or so various sets (with each set being at least five or six figures) before the line "graduated" to the current gashapon NEXT, which I believe is on series 14 or 15 now. I use these with my students when we have game days all the time with super simple rules. There were unique US molds made as well when Gundam was a thing in the States, based on the SD Gundam show as well as the classic TV shows. There were even sets that had non- scale flagships!

Of course getting a complete series is almost as expensive as just ordering a 1/144 kit these days...

The builder parts are pretty nice overall. Also the danbaru senki line has some custom effect pieces for those willing to brave the more "kiddie" models.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I have the thruster bell and the beam sabre/thruster exhaust sets. I'm not sure how many 28mm sets they would work too well with. The sabers and kind of useless to a 28mm gamer unless Infinity releases some TAGs with energy blades. The clear exhaust parts are quite cool though and with a bit of modding, they'll work on just about anything. Believe it or not, the diameter of the bottom left thruster exhaust piece is just about perfect to fit into the engine of the new Chaos Raptors. I used some of the pieces on one of mine and they look great on them. Those weapons though, unless you're fielding a Riptide with functional hands, they won't be too much use.

If you're looking for Gundam Game pieces Bandai made some 1/400 figs that were very near to Battletech sized mechs under the Gundam Collection name. Excellent detail, prepainted, pack of 12 for $25 ish (depending on the set, there were 15ish different sets). The only issue was they were random and the sets mixed different series together, so of a 15 figure set you'd get a few from Gundam, a few from SEED, a few from Wing etc. I find they work very well as counts-as Heavy Gear figs with the added bonus of HG rules being free to download.

First fig is how they come straight out of the box (except the hex base, they come with rectangle stands and pegs for the feet like GI Joes). 2nd fig was just given a wash of black to bring out all the nice detailing these things have sculpted in.

As to the OP topic, those thrusters are indeed fantastic, especially that top left set. Just SCREAMS "add me to something Tau!"
