Subject: An introduction to infinity: Using 40K models to play infinity.

Hy everybody.
Last week I went to a gaming convention where a kind guy introduced me and a friend of mine to Infinity. We absolutely loved the rules, since we felt the lack of a well functioning skirmish game.
We really would like to start the game and to introduce others to it but, sadly, nobody stocks infinity in our town (well... very few stocks infinity in the whole Italy). Since we have to convince our FLGS to start stock Infinity miniature we would like to introduce other to the rules...
Since many in the area are 40K players I thought that the best way to introduce people to the game would be to let them use 40k minis to represent Infinity troops...
So maybe someone can help me (I'm quite inexperienced with infinity) to find some "equivalence" between 40k minis and infinity minis?
For example... What is the best faction to represent the Imperium? Maybe PanOceania?
I thought for example that line troops could be represented by IGs, with heroic individuals being represented by commissars.
Space marines could represent heavy infantry and Terminators could represent very well armoured troops
(Maybe the same can be used for chaos, with cultists instead of IG)
At the same time Combined Army could be represented by Orks (maybe Nobz since it seems CA is an "elite" army) or by Nids?
Yu-jing= Eldars????
And so on...
If some experienced Infinity player could suggest some more precise equivalence, it would be extremely helpful....
Thx a lot in advance

Eldar are good for both Nomads, Yu Jing and PanO
Necrons, Demons, and Orks for Combined Army
IG for Ariadna and Haqqislam
Space marines for pretty much any Heavy Infantry.

Tau actually shares some aesthetics with PanO, and their crisis suits are roughly the size of TAGs.
In any case, there's usually going to be less than 10 models on the board, so it should be easy to make clear which one is which.

When it comes to imperials to represent various troops, I use the following stuff as a guide.
Infantry are divided into Light (LI), Medium (MI), Heavy (HI) and skirmishers (Light, infiltrators, often camouflaged) (SK).
Your regular guardsman can serve as LI quite easily (5+ save)
Medium is your carapace armoured veteran stormtrooper types (4+ save).
HI is the powered armour of the game (so a space marine or other 3+ save here). The only units heavier than Powered armour are TAGs which are TAU crisis suit sized (normally)
Obviously with eldar, things are slightly different and you would go with what looked the part as well.
They suit Haqqislam or PanO (armies I play) aesthetics to my eyes.
Guardians can be your LI, Rangers can be skirmishers or TO LI/MI sniper types. I've got an RT vintage eldar heavy trooper with a big gun I used as a HI in a few starter games.
As noted, crisis suits (on 40mm bases) can stand in as TAGs.
Terminators might be suited as "gecko" class TAGs used by nomads. The fluff says they are designed for confined space actions.

Thx a lot for the advices. It seems that finding an equivalent of terminators is very difficult... searching through the Army Tool I didn't find anything with both an incredible armour (4-5) good firepower and powerful cc weapons (powerfists!!)

Sounds like the Anathematic for combined army. Which is also on a 40mm base. Even the bigger Hi for other factions are still only on 25mm bases most of the time.

There aren't really any straight 40k to infinity conversion models.
It's a lot more of a "this 'feels' right" over a "this IS right".
It's a 'vibe' thing.

This just makes me want to see someone write rules for using 40k in Infinity.

It'd be a game where no-one can shoot beyond 24".
And bullets just stop dead.
And no ARO, and necrons would still suck.

Combined Army Sogarats would be a pretty good profile for Terminators - high ARM, multiple wounds, big guns and CCWs with high PH.

I was thinking the same thing. Ajax would be a good match for a standard terminator, too.
