The title is the quote GW put with the new targeting templates for apocalypse.
Sadly, they are SO ESSENTIAL! that somehow they are a limited one run item and they will be allocating to retailers, and I expect, selling out.
How something can be 'essential' and needed for the game, yet they aren't going to make enough, is sort of confusing me. I guess selling wargames for 25 years still doesn't give me the wisdom that the GW marketing department has amassed. Maybe making money and having people play their games aren't goals anymore?
Anyway, if you want them, i suggest you talk to your local store, put in an order on the website, or something. Because according to GW, once they are gone, that's it. I'm hoping I get the ones I've ordered, so I can at least have them for the first week for people who pick up the book and want to play the new addition.

It's one of GW's business strategies. Of course it doesn't make any sense. They aren't that essential anyway. All you need are the dimensions and a large sheet of clear plastic, and you can probably make your own.

I'm sure they'll be available for a very long time.
"While Stocks Last" is so relative of a phrase yet so many needlessly associate the term "limited" with it; and for that matter even the term "limited" is relative. What number constitutes "limited"?
I can make 900,000 widgets and say "While Stocks Last" because I don't intend on making more... It just might take me the next eight years to sell all my widgets.
Look at all those "While Stocks Last" specialty dice sets GW released for 6th edition,,, Here we are over a year later and all three sets are still available.

Is there a picture of these templates? I have not even heard about them yet. Are they different than the previous 3, the 10" the quad-pieplate and megaflamer?

Interesting... so 2 of the 3 are not different, just fold up? And the 3rd one snakes instead of randomizes position?
Not sure there is a need to buy them for people with the old ones.

Actually the large one is now 15" not 10" too, not easy to tell from the image though.

GW never fails to baffle me. Just like me not being able to order the Eldar suppliment a few days after release. Just plain slowed.

Considering they tooled a mold for these, I doubt they'll just produce one run. Maybe the "limited" run is blue and the standard will be some other colour?

looking at in I would say its a 5/10/15" template. And something I read somewhere (more then likely the WD thread) makes me think that D weapons might get weaker the further out from the centre they are.
Still no reason you can't make your own though.

On the GW website, they list the vortex grenade as limited, and the asset cards, along with some other things (collectors editions, etc). Edit, NVM. Just noticed the "While Stocks Last" sticker. Damn. That's silly.

The thing is something is not strictly 'limited edition' unless they put documentation/certification to that effect in the box. Having worked in a store that sold collectable die-cast I became quite au fait with the various legal ramifications of these things - you might get a particular item that is limited to 5000 or so. If it sold very well, the company would call and ask that we removed the certification from inside the box, allowing them to legally produce more of them. Obviously the people who had bought the originals weren't too happy with this! The key point is the certification that comes with the item.
In this case I think it is not 'limited edition' in any legal sense of the term. They might produce 50,000 of them in a limited print run, then the same again if they sell out. I mean looking at them it's just a bit of cut plastic, hardly a piece of artisan-like workmanship, and this (like so much of the other similar 'limited edition' stuff) is cheaply produced, overpriced pap that they are trying to artificially raise the worth of through this kind of marketing spiel and scaring fans into buying quickly before they've had a chance to really think about the 'worth' of the item.

This is great news! Now you don't have to think about whether or not you want to play Apocalypse right now, because the mandatory templates are a limited-edition product you'll need to buy it now if you have any interest at all in ever playing Apocalypse. Now your decision is so much easier!
But really, it is great news. For the people who make custom laser-cut templates.

It is possible that
A: there are templates in the BRB in which they say you can copy and use.
B; Is it possible the fold up ones are the only ones limited, and regular will come out later?
C: That they may not have faith in APOC much? DFTS was "While stock lasts" but it become popular

I am not sure I am actually worried. Geometric shapes and units of measurements for use with game mechanics can't be copyrighted.
If there is a 'market' for these types of measurements, I am sure someone will 'fill that market should these become unavailable due to short sighted business decisions... Or they will continue to be easily available.
Either way, my life isn't impacted... And if I really get stuck, I can use skills learned in elementary to measure a circle with a diameter to determine which models are in rage of a blast for a game most people maybe play once or twice a year max.
Not quite the end of the world, but damn close apparently!

Mostly just frustration.
I'm hoping i get the dozen i ordered. might be as low as 6. Two are earmarked for the store so we have them for megabattles. 3 people already pre-ordered them.
I might have one for the shelf, next to large stacks of books. Meaning i get to look lame as hell while explaining to customer after customer that really, it's GW's fault, not mine.

The limitedness of stuff is really what's turned me off of GW the last couple years.. that and the fact that if you want it you have to order early on GW's site instead of hoping your FLGS can get it for you, only to find out they decided to screw over the stores again. Meh. Got old fast.
Haven't even bothered to look into the new Apocalypse stuff anyway, just too busy nowadays. Eventually I will though, since Apocalypse games are always funner for me than the normal ones. By the time I do have time I'm sure there will be 10 other companies making their own laser cut wood or acrylic versions of these templates anyway, 'specially if GW isn't going to sell em anymore.

You can easily get third-party templates / effect markers stuff for Flames of War & Warmachine, so I'll be amazed if someone doesn't jump to fill the gap.
