Mission: The Scouring
Deployment: Hammer and Anvil
Night Fighting: Yes

Due to getting the long board edges and a lack of middle ground terrain (we deployed terrain exactly as per the rulebook this time using random rolls in each board segment and that was the result) the first couple of turns are pretty dull this time around so apologies for that. Hope you enjoy anyway and we'll be recording at least another match later today!

Thanks for sharing. Interesting report. One thing I noticed and it could just be lucky dice, but during turn 1, the player indicated the DR Exarch has Night Vision and fired, killing one Plague Marine. The entire squad would benefit from Night Vision. I'd expect DR to have killed more than a single model. Granted, it could have been just good cover saves and FnP, but just in case the player thought Night Vision only affected the Exarch.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

When the Wraithkinght killed th eonly 2 models he could se so he couldn't fire the Sun Cannon is incorrect. You merely roll to hit with the Scatter Laser first. Then if you hit the weapons are laser locked. You then would shoot the sun cannon before rolling to wound for all weapons fired simultaneously. So the Sun Cannon would have been able to fire. What redkeyboard said.

Also, the way I play scouts and stealing the initiative is that scouts come first. I feel stealing the initiative is supposed ot catch you off guard after everything moves into place, so it makes more sense that way for me.

Well made report as usual, though this one ended up being a bit of a dull battle. Just the way it goes sometimes.

Did you both take turns placing terrain?

We rolled for how many bits of terrain in each segment like in the rule book then we let the cameraman place up to those amounts. Obviously the side with two ruins was a far better position to start in sadly leaving me with not much to do.

I agree it was dull that's why I decided to end where I did since I was having no fun at all and even from deployment it was obvious I'd lose, especially to a list tailored to fight MEQ using a lot of the tacky stuff the new codex gave Eldar. Someone mentioned on You Tube that new Eldar only really struggle against hordes which I don't have an option of, but I'd say Tau do fine against them because they can out shoot at range and remove terrible constant 3+ jinks and rubbish like that.

On the plus side this Saturday we recorded some games without the Eldar and they ended up being very close and as a result far more fun.

First off, as a VERY long time Eldar player, good job.

Second, the summary section at the back of the BRB (pg 424) shows scout at the end of the deployment phase, directly before stealing initiative, so that is how we play it.

Eldar have no problem thinning out hordes. Wave serpents and dire avengers can pump out a lot of shots then jetbikes squads can do ride by attacks to aid in thinning them out. Even small 3 man squads can easily ride up to within 12" of a horde shoot and then use their jet bike move to get the outta dodge. If you go straight away from the unit the casualites a horde will sustain will put them out of range. And if you can force them through terrain if they try to go after the bikes that helps too.

Damn cameraman, filming my feet instead of the board!

They are pretty epic slippers though

tbh, the nurgle list needs a bit of updating/finetuning it can do quite well when well made.
