Who has experience modelling these? Do they look pretty cool when painted, and do you have to cut off the base around their feet to make them average height or can you just mount em on a 25mm as is?

I haven't bought any, but there is a guy here in Fresno who used them to bulk out and finish his mordian steel legion army. I know a lot of people on this board like to look down on the sculpts, but with the quality of paint job this guy provided he was really able to put out a really nice looking army with surprisingly good coherency between the WGF troops and the metal mordians.

I have a box of those greatcoats and converted them to chaos cultists. But i haven't painted them yet.
But i can give you at least a few details modellingwise.
They are made of a rather hard plasic and converting them can sometimes be tricky because of that.
They only come in 3 different poses and the left arm is difficult to glue to the guns because of the handpose.
They come with a ton of extra weapons and heads. Each sprue comes with 3 bodies, 8 different weapons (i don't count the pistol because it looks like total crap) and 14 heads.
The size of the heads isn't uniform. Strangely the helmeted ones are slightly smaller than the ones without. And i think that the helmetless heads are a bit to large for the body and their neck to long.
The details are somewhat "washed out" here and there and aren't that picked out. But with a good paint job and highlighting it will probably be no problem.
If you have no problem with the limited poses and plan on useing the helmeted heads they aren't that bad. You won't get GW quality but you'll get roughly twice as much models compared to GW boxes and a bunch of heads and weapons that you can use for conversions.

I found I had to drill out the neck sockets a little deeper.
A 3mm bit in my cordless did the trick though.
ALL of the (human) heads sit a little high otherwise. The squid heads didn't get used at all.
They glue fine with plastic glue (polycements) - just don't use the GW stuff because it's overpriced crap anyway.

What about those thin "army man" esque bases around the feet? any problems with those?

I use mine as AdMech followers. I modified the neck as others have suggested, and added scout bolters. I built them a couple years ago, I don't recall bases or adhesives being a problem. The only thing I don't like about them is the way the back coat flows- its not very natural looking. I personally think they get a bad rap, I kind of like them. I planned to do a bunch as Gue'vesa using Tau helmets as well but haven't ever gotten to it. Sorry for the small pic.

I too found I needed to either drill the neck socket or slice off the necks themselves a little. Beyond that, they really aren't bad. If you have other heroic scaled figures in your army, they'll fit right in, but they look a little odd next to some True Scale stuff. Whenever I get home, I might finally get around to taking pictures of mine. I will say this though, they're great for making traitor guardsmen.

I found them to be a little stumpy. If you cut off the base they are standing on, but preserve the part under their boot as the boot-soles, they're about right.
The detail is a little washed out, and the left-gun hand is a very generic multipurpose arm, meaning it can look a bit goofy on some models, while some arms are just plain outright goofy. Swapping out he ams or IG will pass muster, but might not turn out well on close inspection. all of that said, with some clever filing and GS, and not even that much work, you can breathe a LOT of life into the generic arms they come with. that said, the infantry doodads and magazines and knives they come with are very well sized, and don't look like meat-cleavers or replacement car battery packs like the ones from GW do... Same with the water bottles: decent size, not like a fuel-tank half-refill...
All of that said, if you need physical models on the tale to represent human meatbags, then this kit will more than suffice.

In all honesty, I think they are DESIGNED to mix with GW parts. Having said that, I avoided using the wargames factory heads and arms and I didn't need them - the detail in their heads is lacking.

I had no problem with the bases..
I used GW Cadian armsets (of course).. they ended up looking like this..
I don't use backpacks on my infantry as I run an Armored Platoon sorta thing.. they leave their kit in the transports ..

Very cool then. I was hoping the arms would work well for shotguns, but if not, it seems a GW lasgun arm swap should be easy. So do the original guns they have look much like shotguns? Maybe with minimal converting they could?

On each 3-guy sprue are 3 shotguns, 3 maschine guns(one with a slighly different design), one tiny handflamer and a grenade launcher. (And a crappy looking pistol) But you don't have spare left arms. And to be honest i really like the details on the guns. The maschine guns might look to modern for 40k but the shotguns will be no problem.

Those aren't shotguns though they look the part. The machine guns you pointed out are actually laser weapons, and the third is a type of rail gun, and I lifted that all from the original makers.
That said thou, those assault rifles do make convincing shotguns. If you intend on using space marine scout shotguns, it would be a disaster and a waste of parts

That's the idea. Although I might have to convert a little bit, I think they'll work

Color Sgt. Kell wrote: poda_t wrote: That said thou, those assault rifles do make convincing shotguns. That's the idea. Although I might have to convert a little bit, I think they'll work the trick is that scout shotguns need encouragement to fit onto cadian bodies. I know that the WGF bodies were different;y sized from the cadian bodies, though I can't recall if they are a hairline wider or a hairline narrower. And yeah, i probably should have clarified, you can't do a STRAIGHT application, which is what i was implying. The shotguns will of course work after some modification and green-stuffing to the arms, but gluing the arms directly to the shoulder without doing anything to the arms won't work.

Here's some of my WIP 45th Hessian Grenadiers Regt, composed of the WGF greatcoat bodies and heads and GW arms and equipment.
Like others have said the neck socket needs drilled out a bit or the neck on the head component needs sliced off a bit to make them look right (i did the latter). I also removed the 'army men' base but kept part of it on the underside of the feet to make the sole of each boot, bit of a pain to do to each mini, especially if you've got 60 odd of them to do!
I really like them though, sure the sculpts are soft on detail and theres only 3 poses in the standard box but they're cheap and cheerful and make good alternative Guard.
Here's some standard troopers
Half of a flamer special weapon squad
Some of my 2 man sniper teams
Heavy bolters and Meltaguns
