Hey DakkaDakka!

So I just finished my first monstrous creature and I want some UNCENSORED feedback. Give it to me straight please!

Please rate on a scale of 1-10 with 8,9,10 being Golden Daemon Award winning. (I do not believe this is Golden Daemon material)

Along with your rating any suggestions, comments, tips or ideas are greatly appreciated. As I stated above please be completely honest. I want to know what unbiased people think of it. I love it obviously but I'm still not satisfied! (Doubt I ever will be)

Thanks for your comments folks!

Cris

Alright well right away after posting I realize that I didnt finish the Termagaunt popping out of the chest va***a. DOH!

I would like to do small scale commission eventually. Most likely not for profit, just because I love painting. Think its worthy?

It's very interesting the way you've done the layering on the scythes but the top of the carapace seems a bit plain, other then that doing well!

I agree with the carapace. Any suggestions to flare it up? I was thinking of bringing that red flare down the spikes on the top of the carapace.

I think it looks great. Looks very realistic. Col our scheme is great.

The black is too black but otherwise I think it looks fantastic!

Looks good, although the flash on your camera isn't helping. Pics without flash and good lighting work best.

I think the basing is a little plain, and could use some details to break it up, since that model as a nice big base which can be a mini diorama by itself.

Ok MajorTom, sorry about that.

I was thinking of putting snow on the base. I want to have it look like a nuclear winter or greenhouse gasses have run wild due to the lack of vegetation from hungry nid mouths.

The camera is just my phone. I will try again later with better lighting and no flash.

Thanks for your feedback guys

Skin tones are excellent, black carapace is a little too black but I think its ok as is.

The pink belly sack is the true eye sore on the model. You did a good job adding basic layers to the rest of the model but on the pink underbelly and really all the pink parts it just looks like what you did just didn't set in properly. I think the underbelly looks like its still a WIP.

Also the spines in the carapace could use a little more attention, not much just the plain red top could use one more layer or something. And a simply yellow eye? On that flesh tone it is unnoticeable.

On a tabletop scale it looks great, on a GoldDemon/professional level it looks unfinished.

You missed a few mould lines dude, other than that and the points made above its a nice paintjob. I'd say a solid 6-7 out of 10

I think you did the best on the skin. Plenty of contrast to see the muscles etc. I think you could do more highlighting on the sac. None of the various nodules really pop out and it looks like the low areas are the same shade as the high areas. The biggest let down is the base. You did such a nice job on the rest of the model and the base looks not only very plain, but the colors don't complement the model in any way.

All of your feedback hits on all the points that I have noticed myself! Haha of course!

I plan on adding snow to the base to make it look like a nuclear winter type scheme. I was also thinking of adding some rocks and maybe a dead space marine under there.

I have no idea how to make the black less black though. I used Citadels Abbadon Black for the carapace. How would I lighten that up??

As for the sac, its sad and I know it. I was thinking of highlighting with Cadian Fleshtone to the rised areas and maybe putting in a light purple fading to whitish color for the creases on the raised part of the sac.

Thanks for all of your feedback, I really really appreciate it!

Also, I feel pretty good about it considering this is my first MC model. Other than this I have only painted troops. I am working on a Trygon now so I will be coming back to the Tervigon soon.

Trying to get all my models painted for a tourney! (Prolly not gonna happen)

Thanks again!

It's good, but the only thing for me is that there seems to be to much going on for me.

Snow, grass, rocks on the base would help it look less like an asphalt parking lot. I don't think you need a dead marine.

One trick with highlighting black is that you don't necessarily have to highlight with grey. I have black talons on my Tyranids that i've highlighted with red at the very tips. Green works as well or you could go with greys.

Regarding the sacs, I basecoated mine Rakarth Flesh and give it a wash of the Riekland Flesh. To highlight, I mixed in some bone into the Rakearth flesh and drybrushed the sac to bring out some of the texture. Lastly, I used some of the green wash to hit the round nodules. Super easy to do.

Hey Gianlucafiorentini,

What exactly do you mean by too much? Too much detail? Too many different colors?

The model has a lot of detail. I feel like I need to pick it all out.

I appreciate the comment, I just want to understand what you mean a little better.

Thanks!

Looking good cris!

Its a busy color scheme on a busy model but with some tweaks it will look great.
I agree the sack needs a tone down but idk how you would achieve that considering my lack of painting exp.
Keep up the good work!

Hey all

I just wanted to show you how the base is coming. I know it's been a few.

Remember I'm going for a nuclear winter kind of thing. I can put more or bigger rock piles. I dunno.. Suggestions?

For me, that's just fine. The only thing I would do to that base now is maybe add a few tufts of some sort of dead looking grass - as though it's desperately trying to push through despite the state of the environment around it. In terms of rocks and snow you've got it just right I think. Always remember that whilst the base has to be interesting, it mustn't draw the eye too far from the model as it's the model you wish to display, not the base. Stick your Tervigon on that base now and it'll look just fine IMHO.
