Hey Dakka,

Does anyone have any ideas for creating alternates to the GW Obliterator figure?  I'm thinking about fielding one or two, but am not a big fan of the current model or the price.

thanks,

Pete

Well, considering that a box of plastic Terminators cost as much as two Oblits., I would suggest getting a box. With some green stuffing done to mimick the ever changing Oblit form it can create a rather unique looking fig. This will also leave you some bitz for a possible Lord or Lt in Term armor.

I would love to see some epic titans converted to Oblits.

I just think it's funny that the plastic termies are the cheaper alternative. Maybe not funny. Sad.

Anyway, they would work. They're the right size and shape. They just need more guns and mutation.

Old necron immortal bodies with spare guns?

I have a plan to use them as Adeptus Mech robots (count as blits)

I thought the GW models were too 'fleshy' looking for my IW army, so converted some sentinels by heavily chopping down the legs, giving them a mysterious 'multi-cannon' body, and making them look like minidreadnoughts (i.e they still fit on 60mm bases)

So after giving it some thought, I think I'm going to use the lower half of this

<>

add a torso and head, some cables, and some guns to create a "mini defiler".  The size is about right.  Any thoughts?

That could work nicely, actually.

You could also try using mega-armored ork torsos/legs, chaos heads, and just gluing as many spare guns to it as possible.

I always kinda liked the old oblits (gun coming out of his mouth and all)...how cheap are those on ebay?

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I like those alot... though as they are supposed to be obliterators, it would have been nice to see some various weapon options on them, but great job overall

Golden Demon standard?? I can barely paint Great Unclean One standard!

There's a battletech joke in there somewhere...

Nice little mechs!

@2.0: it wasn't practical to give them all the weapon options as separate weapons. Fluffwise, those weird big gun barrels represent 'multi-cannon', a new IW energy weapon which can be tuned to give the same results as any of the standard obliterator weapon options. Honestly...

I have that, it's smaller than a rhino, a bit too small for a defiler and too big for anything but a statured demon prince or dread.

So I went with the plans using the robo gear spider.  I'm pretty happy with the results.  Apologize for the poor picture quality.

The base is a large flight base.  A little bigger than I first planned, but I'm still happy.

It's not a perfect solution, but the price was right.

Not bad at all.
Certainly an improvement over the official miniature.

Hmmm. Looking at the other IMEX Robogear models, the USD10 T-REX seems a mighty fine substitute for a USD25-30 Sentinel:

The T-rex is a nice model, but about 1.5 times bigger than the standard sentinel. Just FYI.

nice ideas everyone, I was toying with the idea of oblits in my word bearer force, but with heavy converion. I see them as being a sort of mini evil cathedral (with lots of guns of couse!). lots of bells (from the zombie parts) and litanys and mabye gong? The screaming bell bits going on the land rader... now i got some ideas for what to use as a base. What's in the center of those ones with the setinel legs?

I took another look at it since our game last night...I like it! Definitely suits the purpose, and the base is smaller than I thought originally. Sure it's big, but it's also on it's own, so who cares?

I'd love to see those gun barrels drilled out, but that's just me
