what I am looking to run right now is along the lines of

Commander
stim injector, iridium armor, puretide chip, milssile pod, plasma riffle, onager gauntlet

2x bodyguard
plasma, twin linked missile pods

9x fire warriors

9x fire warriors

9x fire warriors

3x crisis suits
plasma, twin linked missile

crisis suit (for deepstriking at high av)
2x fusion blasters, flamer

riptide
ion accelerator, stim injector, twin fusion blaster, velocity tracker

11x pathfinders

piranha (mostly because im tired of owning them and never using them)
fusion blaster (maybe linebreaker, held in reserve)

hammerhead
longstrike, sub munition, sms, d pods

sky ray
d pods, sms

And at 2k, think I would add broadsides, and a stealth team, again because I own the models.

Also thought of dropping the piranha and one pathfinder for a fireblade to boost my fire warriors.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

I would drop the stim injectors, the units you have them on are already 2+ saves and they're overly expensive for the save you get. Plus both can JSJ so you should be able to keep them relatively safe especially the riptide with IA has crazy range. If you're worries about his gets hot rolls you can take an earth caste piloting array for 30pts that let's you reroll failed gets hot at the cost of 1 ws. I would also drop the VT off him as its expensive and with the skyray marking any fliers you shouldn't miss.

I would also move the bodyguards to the squad with 1 suit in it so he's not behind enemy lines all alone and have the commander join them and if you're using them for tank hunting I'd go FB/TL FB, and target lock.or FB, FB, flamer... That would get you 2 tank busters a suit and a flamer for overwatch plus the gauntlet. I personally also like having the system jammer as well. I've had it save my bacon a few times having a squad of enemies with gets hot is nice and it's only 2 points

I'm also a huge fan of Fire Warriors so I try to max them whenever possible and if you're gonna go less fire warriors I'd suggest an ethereal to give you a bit more fire power from smaller squads. The Fireblade is nice but he's limited to 1 squad

I can honestly say I've never used piranhas but I'm not convinced 1 is worth running (I can see a full squad of the. Doing some damage).

All this is still just my opinion and I'm still relatively new to tau so take it with a grain of salt

Well thanks for the feedback. Ran this army against an ork army and won pretty handily. he only had 1400 points though, so I had to drop the piranha longstrike, and a pathfinder, and split the remaining pathfinders into 2 five man teams. The only 2 saves the commander had to make were BOTH failures, although I forgot that it boosts his toughness to 5, don't remember if it would have made any difference. The skyray mostly used its markers for taking out trukks with its missles.

Won pretty easily, and that was without remembering to use the puretide chip even once despite my commander doing nothing but shooting at kans the whole game. Nothing makes me frown as an ork player as much as pathfinders taking my kff save away, then crisis suits raining down missles on my skull.

Now I just have to figure out how to beat necrons with annihilation barges, their transport barges, and massed cheap necron troops that nullify any armor.

I forgot to mention I'm pretty sure you can only have 10 pathfinders in a squad anyway. It's a really huge blob that makes a nice juicy target so usually smaller groups of them are better... I run usually 2 squads of 6 which nets me about 3 ML hits each. I haven't played orks or necrons yet but I imagine the massive amounts of firepower tau bring to the table would make short work of them, my main opponent so far has been chaos.
