just reading this post on MWG and would like dakkas opinions

http://www.miniwargaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=106709

basically, can you wound models up to you maximum range away if you rapid fire?

ie: you rapid fire a 10 man squad and only 4 are within 12". you inflict 6 unsaved wounds so would you kill 6 models or just 4?

I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

Ugh. You do not 'rapid fire" a weapon, just like you don't "heavy" a weapon.

The range of the weapon does not changed based on how many shots you fire. Assuming no saves are passed (in your example) then 6 models would die, as long as they were all in range of one weapon when To Hit rolls are made.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

just wondering if when you fire your rapid fire weapon twice at half range, can you still wound at full range?

You can allocate wounds up to the highest range of the unit firing, the range of a rapid fire weapon doesnt change when making use of the 2 shots, so you can wound on full range.

for example: unit of 10 necron warriors, all are within 12" range, so you roll 20 dice to hit and can allocate wounds up to 24" range.

Why wouldn't you be able to wound to the range of the weapon. That is what the rules tell us.

Rapid Fire weapons do not have a reduced range just because they are allowed to fire two shots.
