So to my dismay I have been searching around for this product, I've checked 2 superwalmarts, and a handful of grocery stores and they either don't carry it any longer or have been sold out with no sign of replenishment in the near future, what gives???

That being said what common product can I find more than likely at a Walmart or some such, will have the same desired effects for stripping purposes, etc.

Purple power works quite well, and is sold in the automotive section at wal Mart.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Simple Green is still readily available all over the place here in Seattle, if this is the stuff you mean:

I was just in both a target and a walmart, and saw it.

It might be being discontinued where you are (or sold under another brand name). I find this happens fairly often.

Second the recommendation of Purple power. Works better than simple green, but with purple power, it's an engine degreaser, so wear gloves.

No really - it's a recommendation with simple green. You want to wear gloves using any degreaser solvent.

Not sure how the concentrated stuff works tbh with models, but its also a good deal more than regular simple green which is 2 dollars a bottle,

Thanks Tetris ill have to take a look when I'm next in

No problem. I use Purple Power to great effect. I also recommend wearing some sort of gloves when using it.

Let the models soak for a day or three, then get an old toothbrush (or a cheap one from dollar tree) and some running water, and scrub away the paint of the past!

Voting for purple power, I bought a 2 gallon jug at autozone. It works better than simple green in my opinion, and its cheaper

Another option is to grab a cheap ultrasonic cleaner. Soak them in Simple Green still for a few days, throw them in for a few cycles. They'll come out cleaner than a toothbrush scrubbing.

simple green still exists...i saw a commercial for it not too long ago, the first i had ever seen.

I've never known walmart to carry it though, I usually buy it from a local grocery store.

you guys have it all wrong, go to the dollar store now, get LA Awesome. This stuff is literally dirt cheap and it has never failed to strip a model. EVER. And best part is you barely have to do any cleaning afterwards and it only takes a few hours, plus it rarely messes with the glue i use. The only negative is that plastics will feel a little more flimsy when they come out of the batch but they harden back up real quick. Ive only broken a standard pole on a termie because of this once, which was a blessing because it looks kinda silly on old termies.

Whats a good equivalent for Simple Green in Australia, something common that you'd be able to find in a hardware store like Bunnings, I know Dettol works but thats quite pricey for what your doing with it.

ive noticed it is a rather rare cleaning agent. For some reason the US Air Force is in love with it so its all over our shopettes on base, but i dont think ive ever - EVER - seen it off base lol.

Crap, thats gonna suck now that i think about it. I am separating from the air force finally so i wont have access to the BX/Commissary anymore!!

I think it's popular for the military because its biodegradable, which is a pretty big deal on most bases now.

For foreign equivalents, purple power is an alkali degreaser with a pH of 11.2 per the MSDS. I'd recommend looking at the MSDS of what is available and compare them by pH and ingredient list.

Are you after something different because you don't like Simple Green or because you've had trouble finding it? Because it it's the latter, Bunnings do sell it.

It's in the cleaning products aisle with the other household/chemical cleaners. Mine is actually orange as it's the orange scent one and that's all they had when I got it. It's $20. For that you get a bottle of diluted stuff for cleaning purposes and the all important 2L bottle of concentrated stuff for stripping. Bear in mind that you don't need much of it and you can use it more than once.

Just checked the Bunnings site and they have both green and orange variants. $19.97

Totally Awesome works best. Simply green takes scrubbing. Totally Awesome just causes most of the paint to fall off. Works well on anything, though it does make finecast a bit soft if you leave it in over 24h. Honestly this stuff has saved me so much trouble.

I can't speak for other places but, as I mentioned up-thread, it's readily available pretty much anywhere in the PNW.

Walmart also carries a Simple Green like product made by clorox. The name escapes me, but it works extremely well for removing paint from models.

I too am throwing in my vote for LA awesome, it works great and it's dirt cheap. If there is a Doller Tree nearby you can get it by the case from their website. x12 20oz bottles for $12 and it ships to the store free.

where in the store have you looked? it can be in the painting section, as well as the cleaning supplies. Then there is a separate type of product that's in the automotive section as well. I think I've noticed a difference in performance between the stuff in the automotive section and the stuff in the household section. I'd give the automotive section a try.

I find that Walmarts don't have Simple green at all.

But they do have it at home depot.

Another vote for LA's Totally Awesome. It just works so much faster and more thoroughly than Simple Green. Less brushing and paint picking needed.
