Subject: Dark Angel 500 point army list..... new to warhammer...

Annoyed Blood Angel Devastator

Hi I am new to warhammer and have been trawling the forums. So far I am considering Dark Angels.
This is what I've come up with:
65 - Librarian
170 - Tactical Squad - Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon
95 - Scout Squad - 4x Sniper, Missile Launcher (Flak), CamoCloaks
170 - Devastator Squad - 4x Missile Launcher (Flak)
This comes to 500 points exactly. The librarian tags along with the tactical squad. Scouts on a distant objective. And devastators providing heavy support as usual...
Are veteran Sarges useful in this list (with the librarian in the tac squad)? The devs could take lascannons and save 20 points which could add equipment to the libby or upgrade two sarges?
How would that affect anti-flyer?
What do you think, all feed back is much appreciated - Thanks

My recommendation is dropping the Flakks. You won't be seeing flyers in 500pt games. If you do, you're probably playing against someone you don't want to play against very often. (seriously, a drake at 500pts against a new player? Who does that?) Also, getting ahold of 5 missile launchers (unless you're using proxies) can be a bit tiresome if you're trying for a small point list. There's nothing wrong with several missile launchers and a las/plas cannon. You haven't outlined what your librarian's going to be doing with the TAC squad. The major factor in deciding where your libby should go is what psyker power you'll give him and the function of that power on the table. One of my favorite uses for a librarian in small point games is camping them with the divination primarus power and giving rerolls to something brutal (dev squad plus rerolls is pretty nasty) and a PFG helps keep them safe from AP1-3 with an invuln save for cheap if you're going against jump suits or whatever. That one depends on your meta. It does make the squad a big target, but if they're lacking long range, they have to get within 48" to get near you, so you're probably going to hurt whatever gets close. Then you have templates for hordes and krakk/las for vehicles. I would vote no on the vet sgts at this point level, but that's personal preference. I don't think I ever upgrade my sgt, and the question of an extra point of LD and an attack (you probably won't want to be in CC anyways in 6th ed) have never been something that would have "saved" my unit. Space Marines are either alive or dead, there isn't much between that for them. Reconsider that ML on the Scouts as well. If you're going to use the missile launcher, you're probably not going to benefit from the sniper rifles (4 wasted models in that round of firing) and if you're going to use the sniper rifles, a heavy bolter or plasma cannon would probably work better for the body count (a less than optimal upgrade). Sniper rifles can't hurt tanks, plasma cannons put out a better template with some AP that actually does something against other marines. As for the extra points, if you're looking to push your TAC squad forward, why not give them a boost with a drop pod or a rhino (of course, buy a whirlwind or predator and use the chassis as a rhino). They're very cheap transports that get the job done. With Dark Angels having Drop Pod Assault, you'll be on the board on your first turn with a single pod, and where you want to be very early. I hope that helps, despite how scattered it ended up.

There are over 20 lists I could post. I probably won't do that.
If you were to post a list you wanted to play or were interested in, I could share my experience as I attempted to do in the above response. Not to call you out, but because a stat block works differently than models and dice. Personal preference and play style makes a list different for each person. As you might be able to tell from the comment I made above (and my interest in Dark Eldar), my dice hate me eternally. Thus, I overcompensate toward rerolls and rolling so many dice that I have a hard time holding them all...

Haha ok thanks will do. I enjoy medium range shooting with a little bit of long range. Scouts with sniper rifles would be prominent part in my list with tactical as the medium range. I don't particularly like the space marine vehicles preferring footslogging/walking models. Also I want to stay away from assault unless I know I can stand my ground in a fight. (I moved away from BA assault marines because of this and am cosidering a SG army). I think two of each unit would be ideal on the table top and for painting... These are the units I like the look of and sound of... 170 - Tactical Plasma Galore 095 - Scout Snipers w/ antiair ML and CamoCloaks Sorry I'm not sure if that will help, I cant really think of a list that is much different from the original sorry... Maybe replacing the devastator squad with Tactical Squad? Thanks

Play the list that you have already. Then after a few games look at the army as how it played. Did you like some units over others? Change things out as you see fit.
Keep in mind the game is about tactics, knowing you enemy(read their codex if possible), dice rolling and getting your mission accomplished(most important). Bad dice roll will happen. Tactics is if you deply your units so your enemy will get first kill if you have a squad out in the open and they get first turn.
At this stage I would suggest that you learn the main rule book and your codex to help you make the right choices when using your army. What armies can and cannot do.
I also aggre on getting rid of flakk on your missiles for now. I haven't seen anyone take a flyer at that amount of points. If they do, avoid them. They will be a total douche to play against.
Hope this helps.
