Hey Dakka,
I've been looking into Orks and they seem like a really cool army. However since I'm new to all of this I don't know what to pick. I'm going to be facing Eldar and Space marines (most of the time.) I'm really hoping I could surprise them with a really good army that could beat theirs. So if you could maybe give me a couple of heads up on some units. So feel free to comment or leave feedback.

Thanks in advance.

Starting a new army at 1750 points and that's with orks out of all of them? Now that's a biggie!

We orks we have a big variation of what kind of army we can run and i will ask you this!

What kind of gampeplay do you prefer?!

A horde of troops? (greentide)
Speed to it's max? (trukks / bikers)
A armor rush? (Battlewagon rush with deffrollas)
The shooty way (tons of lootas and shoota boyz backed up with dakkajets and kannons)

Sure we orks doesnt have the quallity of shooting BS BUT! we have the quantity at our side! Har har, derez nathing like puting out 63 shots in a overwatch

Waagh like a bawz

-
Kaptin Goldteef's waagh! 16250 points 45/18/3 (W/L/D) 7th Ed

6250 points 9/3/1 (W/L/D) sixth-ed
Dark elves: 2350points 3/0/0 (W/L/D)
3400 points 19/6/0 (W/L/D) 8' armybook
Wood Elves 2600 points, 6/4/0 (W/L/D)

Here are a few things to get you started with:

HQs:
- The warboss is great at close combat and you always want to give him a power claw, mega armour or a warbike (depends on your type of army). You can also give him a bosspole, attack squig and cybork body if you want to. You want to take at least one warboss in each arm in my opinion.
- You could also take a big mek. He has a variety of options but I prefer to give him a kustom force field. This is great to give better saves to a part of your army and has a few special rules to go along with him. You want to take at least one big mek per army
- Ghazghkull is not worth taking in this point games so don't be tempted by his awesomeness just yet. Only take him in games of 2250+. As a (cheaper) alternative, you could give the warboss mega armour to increase survivability but you would need to stick him in a battlewagon or trukk as he is slower that way.
- Mad Dok is not worth it; take a painboy instead in units.
- Wazdakka is okay in biker lists but I would save the HQ slot for other things.
- Zogwort is very fun to play with and seeing a daemon prince turn into a squig is hilarious! Not too competitive.

Elites:
- Nobs are great and I think they are one of the strongest elite units in 40k if you equip them right! You want to take a squad of at least 8 and give them the following : 2 power claws, 1 Waaagh banner, 1 painboy upgrade, 2 bosspoles (on the nobs with power claws) and some other options if you want to. They are a strong but expensive unit so be careful not to spend all your points on them. Take at least 1 squad of 8-10 nobs (on bikes if you have the points spare)
- Meganobs are only really used with a mega armoured boss in a battlewagon or trukk. They need to be assault as quick as possible tp get the best use out of them. I personally don't take them; save the points for other things.
- Burna boys are amazing in squads of 12 in a trukk! They can deal with most hoards and light infantry and will deal a lot of hits! Don't bother with meks or grot oilers but if you take them; make sure you give them a dedicated transport! Take 1 squad of 12 if you have the elite slots and points left.
- Tankbustas (in my opinion) are only used against an army with lots of armour. The rokkits are nice but you can get better. Don't bother taking them yet.
- Lootas are you're FRIEND! Take as many of these as you can as they are great against MEQ's and nearly all vehicles. Imagine a full squad of 15 firing out 45 S7 shots! Always take at least 1 squad of 15 in any army! My favourite unit for orks!
- Kammandos - never used but I don't thin they are too good. Leave them at home.

Troops:
-BOYZ! They are the core unit of any ork army and are a really cheap unit. In big mobs of 20-30 boyz, you can deal with any MEQ in close combat. I prefer choppas to shootas as the orks shotting is terrible. Take 3 squads (or more) of 20-30 in any army and you will do well.
- Gretchin are a mixed bag. I use them to hold objectives and are a really cheap and expendable unit. Keep them in reserve and bring them on at the end of a game to capture any home objectives. Take 1 or 2 squads of 10-20 of you want but don't worry if you can't afford them or fit them in.
- Trukks are good for nob squads and burnas and are a cheap way to transport units into battle quickly. I only take them for units that will get shot to pieces of they go on foot.

Fast Attack:
- Stormboys are only really useful in large numbers and need(!) to be in close combat quickly to be effective. They will be shot at alot and will only survive if they keep in cover and not in the open. Taking zagstruk will let them deep strike with could be helpful. I would take a single squad of 20 inc. zagstruk if you want.
- Warbuggies are not really used but other units can do their job better. Leave them at home.
- Warbikers are decent but I never really use them. Can't help you with these but i'm sure other people can!
- Deffcoptas are you're main anti armour unit. The TL rokkits are great and can take out any armour (including land raiders) but are only really effective in full squads. Take 1 squad of 5 in any army. they are amazing for orks!

Heavy support:
- Battlewagons are great! Don't take the killa cannons if you are transporting troops in them. Give them 3 big shootas and a deff rolla and run them streight into units! They will crush everything. Take at least 1 battlewagon with that loadout in every army!
- Deffdreads are pretty good and can be taken as troops with a big mek. Give him 4 close combat arms and let him loose into vehicles and infantry. Take 1 deffdread in most armies.
- Killa kans with skorchas will work well but i think they are a waste of a HS slot. Take them if you want but only in a full squad of 3.
- Leave the flash gitz at home. Period.
- Take 1 squad of 3 lobbas in every army and they work wonders against infantry.
- If you have points to spare - take a looted wagon with boom gun; just for the hell of it. It has a S8 large blast pie plate so have fun with one!

Hope this helps and may gork and mork be with you!

Sorry! Forgot to say about different game styles.

Take more boys in a greentide list.
Take more lootas in a shooty list
Take more trukks and bikers in a speed freek list

Sorry for the lack of detail - my fingers are tired (he he he )

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!
