So I was cleaning out some of my hobby supplies this evening and found 5 pots of the old GW inks. I think there is green, purple, brown, chestnut, and black. Remarkably they are all still in good shape. I'm sure I will hang on to these but I was thinking, and I don't know of anything that I would use these for over the newer washes. I never used them much as I was unable to get the desired effect from these, usually due to too much pooling. Any body have some good ideas on what these are better for than washes?

Given their age and unpredictability, I'd just mix the brown/chestnut/black to make a general dark wash for use on bases and scenery.

Depending on what you paint, the chestnut, black and brown inks can be invalable, as they seem to me to give a far stronger colour than the current washes. The green and purple can also be good for power weapons and the like, giving a nice shiny effect.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I think I might try some of the effects on power weapons and the like. Thanks for the offer Ironklawmadgutsmek , but I think I will hold onto them for now and see what I can do with them. I'll keep you in mind if I don't like the results I can get with them.

I used to use the black one with a 0000 paintbrush to do purity seals before buying a 0.05mm sharpie.

With finecast you can bypass the washing stage and throw them straight into the bin.
Or cut out the middleman and just flush some money down the toilet.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

green ink+green flock = moss.
green ink+any dead organic thing (like, say, evergreen plant roots) = instant living vines....
essentially, they are brilliant for use in terrain and staining stuff to different colors.
The inks are also good for quick, cheap lazy lighting effects, and painting with inks/washes. Just paint the model in gray-scale, and color it in with the inks.
