Hello fellow dakka...uhm...members,

I've been a longtime dakka lurker and finally started to post myself. Ever since my life finally got some regularity to it (got my university degree and a job), I wanted to get back to regular painting. Dave Taylor once said, that if you only paint for one hour every evening you will finally get stuff done. I've been in the hobby since the mid 90's, so I collected a looooot of stuff. While I've been painting all the time, it has been pretty irregular in recent years. That's about to change now.

I'm going to post minis in here, that I've finished, either recently or some time ago. They come from all kinds of systems, ranges and whatnot, but mostly GW. I've also started my own blog a few weeks ago and have had a CMON page for ages, where you can find more stuff and some how to posts. If you got comments or critique or questions, feel free to post them here or on my blog and I'll get back to you.

Now it's picture time, because that's what you're here for and talking about painting is oftentimes less fun than looking at pretty pictures.

First, here's my most recent project - my Tau stealth suits:

Here's one of my Orks - love the crazy green meanies:

This Gandalf was my last entry to Golden Demon a couple of years back:

And this Raven Guard chaplain was painted for a close friend as a gift. A lengthy How To can be found at my blog (see my sig for the link):

That's it for a start, I will post more pictures of these and of other painted minis soon. Let me know what you think or head over to the blog and follow me there. I appreciate every input. It's what keeps me motivated.

Cheers,
Kenza

WOw, those stealth suits look super cool - seriously awesome job on those. I love the almost, but not quite monochromatic scheme going on - really fits those models.

Nice!

Awesome all of it post more!!! I love the Gandalf base how you make the leaf?
It would be good to see a comparison from your older work to your most recent! I want to see more tau tho the stealth suits rock!

Wow, that's a lot of positive feedback. I didn't expect that. Maybe I really should have posted sooner. Haight is right, the almost monochromatic colours was what I was going for. Even though the Tau use stealth fields I'd imagine the suits to be painted in kind of a camo pattern, too, in case the field fails.

@ichigo: the base for Gandalf had to be somewhat more elaborate, since I took him to Golden Demon, where everybody tries to circumvent the rules that the mini has to be on the base it comes on by building inverted pyramids. anyways, my base was waaaaay not elaborate enough to compete with the other guys in the LotR category. The leaves are actually acorn seed, I think. They are sold at most modeling supply stores. You can even get them in different colours. If you can't find them online, I will have a look and provide you with a link, if you like.

When you say "my older work", do you mean the stuff I painted when I got into the hobby or when I started to paint on a more serious level? The latter would be this Sigmar priest, for example:

It was the first time I tried to paint a mini up to a high standard and as good as I was able to. I learned a lot by challenging my skills in that way. Still, painting the guy took me ages back then, nowadays I'd be able to paint him like that in probably half the time. Practice is everything, I guess.

And don't worry, more Tau are coming up. Some can already be seen on my blog, but I will post some on here, too.

Thanks for all the kind comments, guys.
Cheers,
Kenza

Yeah you do find some crazy bases in the golden demons but I like the subtleness of yours.
You can see how much has changed from the priest to now. I was the same when I first started painting I relied heavily on washes, now I use an airbrush to get the shading I want!

Subtlety is sadly the one thing not appropriate for the GD. This is one of my largest problems: I like painting the standard line troopers for armies...a lone soldier on a subtle base, lost on the battlefield somewhere. But usually this is not showy and FX packed enough for a GD entry. I don't know, I like portraying fluff pieces or at least have the painting be fluffy in itself, but that's rarely what GD is about. It's always been sort of a tricky topic with me.

Never used an airbrush, I will get some cheap version some time this year since I am in charge of creating the terrain for my gaming group. And no way in hell am I gonna paint all those ruins by hand.

Time for another picture, though. This time Imotekh the Stormlord. I painted the fella during the recent 'cron release, when the german GW HQ held a painting competition for the cron characters. I managed to get 1st place and won a monolith. It was also the first finecast mini I ever painted and handled. Due to the really bad casting within the first Necron release wave, I had to rework a lot of details on the mini. Painting Necrons is fun, though. I've got another How To article about some deathmarks in the works, which will be featured on my blog sometime soon. But enough talk, here's the mini:

I posted the mini on CMON, too. If you feel like voting, please check this link: http://www.coolminiornot.com/339177

Thanks & Cheers,

The Necron came out quite well!

Once you get the airbrush the terrain will actually be fun work considering you can get it done in a 1-3 time period per piece and spend more time creating something interesting rather than slaving away painting it.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks aosol.

I was thinking the same about the terrain. After I had painted a hill, a forest and some craters by hand, I realised that just the basecoating took me ages to complete. And even worse, basecoating the terrain is no fun at all. You can be pretty sloppy with it but it still takes long. That's why I will opt for an airbrush with it.

I know you guys asked for some more Tau, which I will post in the next couple of days. But since this is dakkadakka, I felt there was more need for greenskins. So here are some of my basic Goff boys from the Black Reach boxed set:

Hope you like these.

Thanks guys. I relly love my greenskins. In the beginning they were just the leftovers from black reach. Then i played them just for a test game against a friend. It turned out i liked the whacky greenies. Then they somehow ended up as my main army.
