Krieg Siege regiments - Love these guys. The Siege of Vraks really shows how badass this army is.

Cadians - How can you not like these dudes? Protectors of the Cadian gate, a Spartan society geared towards war.

Balthoran Armored - Homebrew regiment, gotta show my own guys some love.

Mordians are pretty cool. Love how they're always so fancy looking, yet still some of the toughest Guardsmen about.

Order of the Righteous Armour - 542 points so far.

Elysians and Krieg are both very cool, although on opposing ends of the tactical spectrum, and despite the poorer models, Catachans are some of the coolest fluff-wise. As the regiment that gave us Marbo, Straken and Harker, they must be pretty good.

I always liked the Mordian Iron Guard. Well-dressed and badass. I was sold on an army of them until I got the calculator out...

I'm a big fan of the Steel Legion. They have some of the best IG lore out there & they just look awesome. Rumor has it they may be seeing a plastic kit in Q1 of 2014 as well as a unique supplement that will no doubt increase chimera's usefulness & perhaps salamander scout tank etc.

Fav three:

1. Mordian Iron Guard - something about the willingness to march into battle, without camo, in tight formation whilst giving precisely zero is very appealing.

2. Vostroyans - an army of elite space Cossacks with ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus, fancy weapons and presumably a penchant for space-vodka. What's not to like? Plus mine is the only vostroyan army I've seen IRL, so that appeals to me too.

3. Tanith First and Only/Cadians - love for both thanks to Dan Abnett. The former - you can't read the series and not love them. The latter - based on the scene with Kasrkin and a daemonhost. I find myself yelling ' YEAH!' each time I read it.

i have 2 squads of DKoK as an allied force - they are great models.

However, after reading more of the fluff I came to like Elysians a bit more.

If Tallarn ever got a resin infantry squad kit then I would be all over them too.

Krieg are kind of cool with siege warfare and all, but they're pretty grimdark for my taste. Out of the ones I know, I'd go for the Drookian Fen Guard, because stealthy light infantry with cavalry support is the coolest! Plus they're basically racist swamp-dwelling Scotsmen IN SPACE.

Tanith First and Only also seem pretty cool for similar reasons, though I've never been able to read any of the books.

Valhallan Ice Warriors get a shout-out as well, using lots of light infantry tactics and being the Red Army IN SPACE.

I am partial to the Cadians for looks. The Mordians for color scheme. And the Necromunda regiments for lore value, along with the Armageddon Mech. Reg. for army listings. In the end, I will be creating my own 11th Necromunda CAR. From various IG models/minis.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

I like Cadians best because of the uniform/color scheme and their existence as the adamant Imperial fortress-world on the brink of the Eye of Terror. Oh, and I field them.
Runner-up is probably Death Korps/Steel Legion, also because of appearance.

Catachans, while absolutely awesome fluff-wise, I like less. I wouldn't really want to field an army of little angry Schwarzenegger clones armed with laser guns, or The Expendables minus shirts.

Valhallans.

Also, Marbo.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

Valhallans!

Few regiments embody the low value of life, the meaning of sacrifice, and the price of victory (and a phyrric victory, at that, given that war is eternal) - central themes of the setting, one and all - as the Valhallans do.

Spoiler:

Other than that, I also like the Armageddon Steel Legion, Praetorians, and Mordians. I also like the Cadian background, although visually they may be just a tiny bit too "modern" for my taste.

I like Cadians because of their monotonous feel and how they just seem like the horde of infantry with big guns supporting them

And they also provide endless colour scheme options

Catachans. I know I will collect alot of flack from that. The fluff is good and some of the stories that have been published have been good. As far as the models, glad I have the older metal. With exception to the Catachan CCS box, the other catachan kits suck.

I have always liked the Armageddon Steel Legion boys - they are the best trench coat infantry ever (sorry Krieg)

Cadians are pretty darn cool though...

but my favorite has to be my homebrew regiment, the Hades 501st - light cadian style infantry with lots of grenade launchers, sentinels and cut down uniforms whats not to love?

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Battle_of_Traitors_Moss#.UhJn0NI3vxA

They're official, but the main page that had the bulk of their info was on the old Spanish GW website and now only really exists in online wikis like Lexicanum. They are still referenced in other publications, though. For example, there's a quote from a Drookian on page 20 of the 5th edition IG codex.

If you google them, you'll see multiple instances of how people have represented them on the tabletop, the most popular being the Victoria Miniatures scottish-style bitz. I might get some for the command officers of my IG army since they have a culture partially inspired by Celtic and Norse societies.
