I just caught on to this... but while whithering on the wine for quite some time, looks like GW is no longer producing Epic A miniatures. I was thinking this might have to do with their move to resin under their Finecast line, and ditching pewter, but then I realized the plastic sprues are gone now too.

I was wondering what you guys thought about this. I've been out of gaming for quite some time, but back in the day during the days of Epic Space Marine/Titan Legions, I would regularly see tables of massive Epic games going on involving multiple titans and gargants blowing up buildings and thought it didnt get any better than that. As a matter of fact, while I like Warhammer 40k, what got me into gaming was Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine, so epic has always had a spot reserved in my gaming consciousness (all of them too: AT/SM1, SM2/TL, and Epic 40k which i also love.

I really wasnt crazy about Epic A. I was on the old playtesting team and could see where the strategy for the game was going, and realizing it wouldnt take it back to those glory days, kind of sealed gaming for me until recently. I miss the titans. And without an emphasis on them, then its just another small scale wargame.

Anyone else care? Epic has been dormant for awhile I guess so I wouldnt be surprised if many hadnt even noticed.

Epic was a great game and will be missed. However, GW figured out some time ago that they could get people to play epic using full scale miniatures and called it apocalypse. I don't think we will ever see epics return as gw rakes in the money from apoc.

Epic is sweet.

I remember those good old days as well...

Waves of rhinos backed up by rows of Land Raiders with boys on top of buildings lining up for shots...
the cool cards that represented the units...
the simple order system..
the ease of sweeping across the battlefield to engage the opponent...
I miss those days too.
I got a copy of Cold War Commander and its really fun, and from what ive seen there is a Future War version.
The game moves like the old Warmaster system..

Epic is still alive (in the community).

I love Epic and bolstered by IG army when GW started to clear Specialist Games out. Fingers crossed for a new version if/when the LotR licence expires.

To me, Epic has always been 40k. The last rule set not only nailed down an engaging and strategic game, but perfectly portrayed every faction according to their fluff. You can make a horde of Tyranids outnumber a small number of elite Space Marines, or a rumbling Imperial Guard siege line in a war of attrition. Eldar win via hit + run attacks and pinpoint strikes, but crumble under any real pressure. Orks in Epic really reflect their fluff, with simple army rules to encourage their style of getting stuck in.

Regular 40k is an overgrown skirmish game that requires significant investment pull most of these things off well. Thanks to the current metagame pushing players toward certain builds and new model releases, I've often seen 'un-fluffy' matchups, such as Marines that outnumber an MC-heavy Tyranid force.
In Epic, it doesn't really matter what units you're bringing so much as how they're used. Thanks to community development they're aren't really any uber-units, as things get tweaked and brought back in line. What's more important is what you're doing with those units and how you react to (or predict) your opponent's decisions.

I just wish we could have gotten some of the older stuff re-done to match the current aesthetics before GW canned the range. Certain models are really showing their age.

Apocalypse is like Epic, but with all the IQ removed.

I agree, when I thought 40k, I thought Epic.

The very first table top wargame I ever played was the box set of Space Marine. Wow. Long time ago. 23 years ago or so. I loved it.

Now that Epic is "gone", there's been a huge resurgence of it among my local gaming buddies. In fact, we're getting six of us together for a day of Epic gaming tomorrow.

And, as someone else mentioned, it's very much alive and well at the Tactical Command forums.

I am working on painting up my Chaos Space Marine army now, and it is a blast. I have a painted Blood Angel army, and an unpainted Titan Legion army.

It's not all that hard to find the models, if you look. And it's a great game, if you can find friends to play with.

I bought a bunch of Epic models after hearing how great it is, but sadly very few people in my area play it. Back to ebay they go then.

I wouldn't give up so easily mate. It's a great game and worth persevering with besides a whole army takes up virtually no room!

I bought several different Epic armies from ebay myself (for about the same cost as a single 40k army), and whenever our group wants to play I just loan them out.

Epic was what got me into GW at the age of 12 (22 years ago now) and I pretty much played that for 4-5 years only really played little bits of 40k and Fantasy due to the cost.
The game was so much fairer than the diverse armies of the core games which made the results so much more unpredictable and exciting.
I would love it to be resurrected as I would definitely get into it again and if I had any epic models I would never get rid!

Epic spacemarine/titan legion (2nd edition Ithink it was) was by far the best game gw ever made and epic 40k was a bad joke that deserved to fail only lasted 4 weeks on the shelf in the gw store before it was cut to ribbens

But gw will never bring it back as epic 40k bombed to badly

aah memory lane my choas beating up the imperial gaurd but its long over with now and will no worth while successors all we have is drop zone commander (bigger rip off than gw and a pitiful model count) planet fall (spartan games) nice looking models but the rules are dull pathetic and nothing compared to its 20 year old predessor. guess its grumbleing from an old guy but there hasnt been a game like it and doubt there ever will be which is truely sad

if gw brought back out the space marine titan legions I would be the first in the store handing over a wallet full of cash no need to revamp models or bull crap just the same stuff and if they felt up to it some extra stuff but wont happen as rhey would prob try to f*ck us over with resin crap

I would LOVE to see a Re-vamp of EPIC.

Just use the same rules we liked -- orders like first fire and advance..and rescuplt the models down to 15 mm size. All their stuff is done on a CAD program nowadays, so its not a problem to get things scaled correctly...Imagine Marines that are taller than I.G...
They could rescuplt all the vehicles and just move the 40K stuff into the Appoc games and crank out an entirely new product line.
Baneblades would be the size of old school Rhinos....how cool would that be!!

I wonder, would it be feasible to play Epic using the standard 28mm models? Maybe change the distances a bit... change a few other things around...

15mm 40k would be amazing if it were ever made. Would very much get into that

Sure its called Apocalypse. But seriously GW did this 15 or so years ago, they made a 40k scale epic demo for games day.Which is probably when the light bulb turned on.

My first GW purchase was Adeptus Titanicus, followed quickly by Space Marine then all the Epic Battle Boxes (Space Orks, Space Elves, Space Marines and Chaos). Then 1st Ed Space Hulk and blood bowl. 20 years off and I'm now playing 40k for the first time.

A game that I think will fill the niche we all want is Dropzone Commander. I hope it catches on, and I'm looking forward to getting the starter set. Looks like a great buy. Great reviews
