Winter 2014? Got a whole year between public alpha and kickstarter?

I'd like to have most of the art and at least 3D sculpts done before we do the campaign.. and if we started that today we might be ready by the end of October or early November, but then that's going to spill into xmas shopping season and just a bad time for a kickstarter in general, so probably better off waiting till Jan/Feb and have even more time to work on it

I'm thinking winter 2014 as in December of 2014... why not just say Q1 2014?

Shuffled the dates around. Looks like we're going to be doing the novels this fall. We'll be getting the first one done shortly and running a little kickstarter to fund additional books.

Likely to be all digital format books, possibly with a print-on-demand option like lulu.com.

Just had a thought... would anyone prefer we release the new weird-west creatures in metal as a skirmish expansion? And then do the big adventure game later on?

So we would do a couple of new monster "gangs", a small 20-30 page expansion booklet and a novel, and basically do a KS campaign similar to the last one? I'm thinking that would be the easy way to go, as the adventure game will require plastic models that also will take a long time to do. The adventure game would still happen, just later on .. since it's a different format and all, we'd probably treat that as a whole separate-but-still-related product line.

And... get the first wave sculpts done ahead of time so there's no long delays (fingers crossed), and plan to ship each wave separately.

I would skip it and go right to the plastics. While more expensive and such, if it is a goal why put it off.

And get WGF in because their plastics look awesome!

Don't know who we'll go with yet, talking to a few different companies. I really like what WGF is doing these days

The reason I was thinking of doing a skirmish release first is it's likely going to take a long time to get plastics going. And just looking at the recent campaigns with plastic minis and how they've all been delayed, I'd rather we held off on the board game till we have all our ducks in a row. Whatever company we do use will likely also have queue of other projects and we'll have to wait in line a while too. So yeah, I just want to be realistic with the timing and not jump into it premature. It's going to be a pretty huge project.

So I'm thinking we could do the beasts as a skirmish release with metal figures, and then when the board game does come out we can already have a lot of extra monsters people can buy for their board game adventures So if we did the campaign it would probably be mostly for monster miniatures and maybe 1 human monster hunter themed gang. Though it would be a good excuse to get some 3-man support packs going too.

If we just do the board game, it probably wouldn't be hitting stores till at least a year from now.. and there would be no other BWG releases till then. So this way would also give us some new releases every couple of months to keep the game "fresh"

Things are still up in the air a bit deciding between a skirmish campaign or board game format next. Both will happen it's just a question of what next. So far I'm still hammering away at the board game and assuming that will be next.

New thought for if we do a skirmish campaign next would be to start it off with a 2-player starter set. It would be kind of like the new set from Dropzone Commander. You would get a starter beast pack and a monster hunter gang, possibly plastic, rulebook, dice, mini tape measure, cardstock board and some cardstock buildings and obstacles. Basically everything you need to play except for the glue.

The gangs, buildings and rules would be available separately too, and stretch goals would mostly be for 3-man support packs probably with metal figures and maybe new building sets. We already have a lot of hired guns, so there probably wouldn't be too many of them, we need more henchmen so folks can really flesh out their gangs, so thats why we'd focus on the support packs. Each one would have 1 professional and 2 henchmen. I'd like the buildings to be heavy duty cardstock though, like the same thickness as a game board, not the thinner business card kind of stuff.

So that's where I'm at now. I'm kind of thinking the skirmish campaign might be a better way to introduce the monsters into the game world, but I still really want to get the board game going too.

I vote "Skirmish Campaign" first - board game much later.

And buildings?

Yes please!

Yeah lots of ideas for buildings. I really wanted to do them as a kind of cities of death modular plastic panel sort of thing, but even with a good kickstarter it would be tough to pull off and I'd rather focus that kinda cash on minis. heavy cardstock will be cheaper and we could do multiple "skins" for the same cuts to make a lot of different buildings.

I want to go for a more unique kind of look though, mostly flat roof buildings (for proper ambushes) and kind of a cross between mexican adobe buildings for shape but wood patterns for the western theme. I'd also like to do a special building for each gang, like as a hideout. Sheriff's office for the vigilance committee, saloon for the Clancy gang. And Dr. Hoo will need a medicine shop, with a little blue outhouse.

Got some new info on the boards & buildings...

We can do a 4-panel board that would be 11" panels, or 22x22 unfolded. Or a 6-panel board that would be 10" panels, or 20x30". both double sided and would be designed where both sides fit together so you can use a 2nd board and just flip it over. It's a bit of an uncommon size but I think we would go with the latter.

Then the buildings would be on heavy duty 2mm thick punch board in 11x11" sheets, probably 4-5 sheets to get 3 buildings plus some obstacles. I think we would also sell the board & buildings separately too as a town expansion, maybe with different buildings than what comes in the starter. They would probably be the same building sizes but just a different "skin". and if it works we could do other expansions later too.

Yeah I'm 99% sure we're going to do a skirmish campaign next. The adventure game will still happen, just later. So the new campaign will still focus on the skinwalkers and possibly the undead faction too if it goes well enough. The adventure game will focus on tommyknockers and other things that live deep underground, and then we'll have all the beasties from the skirmish campaign ready to go to easily add to the adventure game too.

For the skirmish campaign it's going to be focused on a 2-player starter set that will come with everything you need to play. What I'm going to shoot for is a 20x30" board, a 5-man human monster hunter themed gang and 5-man beast pack in plastic, 4 small thick-cardstock buildings, probably around a 4x4" footprint plus some obstacles, rulebook, dice and mini tape measure.

Minis and buildings will also be sold separately. Other minis that we unlock later will be 3-man support packs for current gangs and 3-model monster support packs too, and these will most likely be metal. Just doing plastics for the starter set, unless the campaign ends up doing super awesome, since plastic molds are super expensive. We'll do lots of tough solo monsters, but not too many solo men since we already have a lot of hired guns.. there will be a few though. I have a pretty huge list of models I'd like to do

The new campaign still probably won't be until early next year though. This time around I'd like to see if we can get the initial sculpts done ahead of time, so it won't take so long to produce.. and then we'll do the newer figures we unlock afterwards and they would be shipped as a 2nd wave.

If you go with a cpl of weird expansions, you could include the Clown group not unlocked last time (Think Carnevale TV series idea).

You might even add a more normal faction as a bonus to unlock (yes still bucking for a Bonanza Cartwright crew) something like

Eve (make Adam a gal)

Lorne Cartwright as dad

Little charlie (from Little House)

Big dan (Blocker)

Candy Canary

Yes the circus is still coming to town They will be added to the next campaign, and if we don't happen to get high enough to unlock them then I'll probably try and get them done anyway

Just heard from Game Salute today. The boxes are printed, but the retail release is delayed because a lot of the starter set figures ended up going to backers and there aren't enough left-overs for retail. So they have to get some new figures made up and shipped and stuff.

Regarding the Curse of the Skinwalker expansion and KS campaign, they plan to start that "in the new year" so they can get the retail stuff out of the way first. I still hope to do that as a boxed game "starter set" that will come with a human gang vs beast pack.. plus a board and cartstock buildings and everything you need to play in 1 box. We'll see how it goes, likely going to be a long development time since it will require a lot of artwork.

Latest info from Dan at Game Salute about the new releases
Assembly is now taking place here at headquarters and then we'll be stagger releasing a gang and two Hired Guns each month until they're all out.

David and I are meeting on the plans for this year and we'll have a plan for the boxed BWG game as well, so stay tuned.

So it sounds like they want to do the full boxed adventure game instead of just a skirmish expansion with new models. So that'll be fun but it's going to take a real long time to put together, but I'd much rather do the full boxed game too
