What value, if any, is there with deploying a Command Squad on foot or mechanized?

They get expensive fast. In the old days, last edition, it was special weapon spam or nothing...

You can do that again, but need a ride.

I was hoping to kit them out for a tactical assault role, some special weapons and a couple of melee upgrades.

They started costing lots of points and looking at what was there, couldn't take on much more than a wounded squad or MC.

Theory only, haven't played with them yet.

They can take Drop pods right?

DP in with some special weapons when you run out of elite section.
or a no slot way of getting more razorbacks(IIRC) if that is even viable anymore.

I was thinking of trying to use the Champion and Apothecary and turn it into an assault squad.
Not sure if HQ and five guys is enough however.

They get lots of attacks, but I would only assault shooty dudes that are shot to hell or are limited in numbers.

4 plasma rifles in a razorback is still viable. Great way to counter attack by fire when a FMC threatens your lines.
