So an interesting topic has risen on another forum.

A Special Character (SC) from the Chaos Space Marine (CSM) codex has several items listed that correspond with the "Daemonic Gifts" section of the CSM armory.

You are playing against a Daemonhunter (DH) army and they have items and abilities that effect "Daemonic" models. Per the rule in the DH codex a model is considered daemonic if it has  greater than 50 points of daemonic gifts.

Would the SC in the CSM codex then be considered "Daemonic" in this regard by going through each SC's individual description and tallying up the "gifts" they have as they correspond to the CSM armory?

I was told to note that """(note that it does not say "that have selected more than 50 points of daemonic gifts from their armoury")""". So since the SC's HAVE the gifts or the "effects" of said gifts that they count to that point value. Example being that Abaddon's armor counts as having D. rune... so he should be counted as having that gift.

My stance is that since they are unique characters in that they have to be used as given with the point values provided in their respective entries and since they do not even have access to the CSM armory that they should not be considered daemonic.

Can you D.I.G. it?

If it lists the gifts they have, how would you not use those gift's costs to figure out thier deaemonic status? If they have something "counts as talons" or something similar then it could be argued that they don't.

Per very recent chapter approved:

"The term Daemons refers to the following troop typres: Daemonhosts,Greater Daemons, Daemon packs,, Nurglings, Daemonically possessed machines (like defilers) or those with parasitic possession, living vehicle, or mutated hull upgrades, eldar avatars, possessed chaos space marines, chaos lords with the daemonic stature gift and/or over 50 points in daemonic gifts. If you come across or create more models to which you think these rules might apply, use your best judgement."

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge

AAArgh! This again. At least here people unbderstand PPC argument. I say they aren't daemonic, no RaW for the Special Character equipment cost. Best judgement aside, 'cause that's the anti-RaW.

Cheers

He knows that I know and you know that he actually doesn't know the rules at all.
