Since I had the second haul of BWG in hand, I decided it was time assemble and prime everything. This next year I will not have a lot of money (more like none), so my hobby budget is... very low. But these figures still need paint!

I am thinking of getting reaper paints, as I love their triad sets. But what is everyone else doing?

For the triads, I was thinking of getting the following triads, and their uses:

Leather: Ochre Gold Triad
Skin: Medium and Fair Skin Triad (women will be fair skinned)
Jeans/Blues: Grey Blues Triad

The rest of the clothes I don't really know what to use for them.

Another idea I though was priming with vallejo white primer then using washes to get what I like. Opinions?

What are you doing for your gangs? What colors do you find are a must for these gangs?

You can't go wrong with shades or brown and gray, seems like all the colors they used back then... and red scarfs for outlaws

I do jeans with just white primer and blue wash. washing is good for light colored cloths, but for me they sometimes come out looking a bit dull.

I use cheap craft paints almost exclusively (though I do have a couple shades of Vallejo flesh and a few other colors). I generally prime white with cheap flat white spray primer from WalMart or someplace similar.

For Wild West stuff I tend to use a lot of earth tones and some grays, though my Banditos Mejicanos have a some red jackets, and many figures get the red or blue bandana or a similar patch of color somewhere.

Good to know you just used washes for the jeans. I like the studio paint jobs and schemes, and washes are super easy.

If I used actual paints I would never get the models painted!
