Okay so I came up with this unit combination using space marines with allied dark angels.

It's based on my 5th edition vindicator wall with a null zone librarian, but beefed up quite a bit for games of 2k points and over using 2 force orgs and allies.

Tigurius
165pts

Librarian
Lv2 Mastery
Terminator Armour w/force axe
Storm Shield
125pts

Dark Angel Librarian
PGG
95pts

3x Vindi w/siege shield
405pts

2x contemptor mortis dread w/kheres AC + cyclone missile launcher.
430pts

Tiggy rolls on divination giving a very decent chance to get perfect timing and/or misfortune + prescience.

The SM terminator librarian rolls on biomancy with a 1/3 chance to get enfeeble, also works as a counter assault unit.

The Dark Angel libby takes divination for prescience for more re-rolls.

The idea is that the vindicators deploy in a wall and roll up the board blocking line of site to the 3 librarians behind, the contemptors can be used to protect the flanks of the unit if needed or take cover themselves behind the vindi wall.

The DA libby stays right behind the centre vindi in a rhino and provides them with 4++ saves and the other 2 librarians stay within 3 inches also for the 4++.

What you have is a group of models that can break through any defensive position, 3 st10 AP 1 pie plates, 2 with re-rolls to hit, 1 that ignores cover, misfortune forcing re-rolls of successful saves. A 1/3 chance of enfeble lowing T6 MCs to T5, meaning insta death to demolisher cannons, + 24 ST 6 AP4 and 4 ST 8 AP 3 at BS 5 with skyfire and inticeptor, with rerolls if needed all protected by a wall of AV13 with 4++ saves.

So what do you think?

Its not a bad baseline. Couple of quick notes:

1) The vindicators will not be able to benefit from Perfect Timing because that blessing is as "On the Psyker and his unit" and psykers cannot join a vehicle.

2) You lack mobility. If the Mortis dreads move, they lose Skyfire and Interceptor and with their relatively short range, you can't afford to keep them sitting still while the vindicators advance.

3) You lack range. You need something to complement the army beyond 24 inches.

4) Your PFG librarian has to be exposed to protect everyone, which makes him vulnerable to barrage weapons and anti-infantry guns that can use terrain to see over the vindicators. Once he folds, your survivability decreases markedly.

What's the reason for double force org chart? Mortis contemptors are an elites choice now as per updated FW rules.

Panzer is right.

I have seen more and more people misuse Perfect Timing lately since the new Tiggy was released. If it's not Heralds of Tzeentch with 20man units of Thousand Sons, it's Tigurius/Dark Angels. Use caution with Divination during the games to make sure that you don't use powers wrong.

Edit- Do 3 Vindicators actually need any help? :p

I feel like it depends on the rest of your list and what your meta looks like. Head on this is an ugly combo. From behind it is almost helpless and there is just so much that can get behind you or things like TFC and SMS that don't need LOS to hit you that I feel like this would not be that hard to take apart. Land a few Tau suits behind it and jump away - speedy bike crews ripping off rear armor shots, Flying FMC smash attacks, etc etc. This would definitely smash a static gun-line army provided your vindis can get into range before they get blown up, but if your opponent is mobile, I don't feel like this is that scary.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Okay had forgotten that it wasn't a targeted blessing.

2) You lack mobility. If the Mortis dreads move, they lose Skyfire and Interceptor and with their relatively short range, you can't afford to keep them sitting still while the vindicators advance.

You don't need skyfire till turn 2 at the earliest, by the time flyers show up the dreads will be in a dominant position centre field where they can cover most of the board.

3) You lack range. You need something to complement the army beyond 24 inches.

That would be covered by the rest of my army, though I do tend to focus on getting most of my stuff to well within 24" when playing marines to maximise firepower then mopping up with assaults.

4) Your PFG librarian has to be exposed to protect everyone, which makes him vulnerable to barrage weapons and anti-infantry guns that can use terrain to see over the vindicators. Once he folds, your survivability decreases markedly.

Yep you are correct, just checked the DA FAQ and he can't be hidden in a vehicle. Though if he's close enough to the back of the vindi noting can directly see him, knowing that tiggy can't bless the vindi's for ignore cover, maybe I should give him telepathy instead for 5++ backup in case the DA libby goes down.

Which rules? the newest I have is imperial armour Aeronautica the ones that includes interceptor and skyfire.

Lots to think about.

Yeah that's not the most current rules. Check the thunderfire thread with my response there. The rules changed in IA Apoc (2013).

You need line of sight to use Maledictions. Hiding means you won't get to use Misfortune.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

This doesn't work for all the aforementioned reasons while grav-amp centurions do far more for the same points cost.
