I've been experimenting with ways to get a more well proportioned crisis suit. The enforcer suit while accurate in terms of appearance, is just too large. I have a bunch of FW variant XV8s, but they suffer from the same boxy proportions as the plastic GW kit. I've seen some tutorials on how to make a plastic XV8 resemble the new codex art, but it is a very time consuming processing involving skill full use of plasticard and green stuff.

The new farsight model is the best alternative I could come up with. All the joints are easy to cut apart and reconnect with minimal green stuff required (the pics below don't even have greenstuff added yet). I was wondering what you guys think of the conversion. Is it worth outfitting my entire farsight enclave with this new XV8 mini? Money isn't a factor and I find converting the model fun, I just mainly want to know if it looks better than the FW suits.

The conversion:

- Cut the legs at the hip, cut leg in half at the knee, heated ankle and bent into proper position, cut kneecap armour so that it wasn't at awkward angle
- cut arms at the elbow to reposition
- cut underslung plasma rifle off arm and attached it to the side where the shield gen went
- cut dawnblade off and straitened the right hand
- cut sensory spikes off the jet pack
- replaced head with broadside kit version
- used standard xv8 bits for right shoulder and plasma rifle.

I think so - ironically I was thinking something simlar when I was recently assembling my farsight.

I really like the legs, and the arms with the hands.

Heh...you can make the wrappings on the left leg different colors - they represent where the warriors write their vows to their fellows and wear them in to battle.

One thing I'm having trouble with is trying to decide on what to put between his two jetpack thrusters. Right now there is this empty space in the middle of his back where the large sensory fins go - I think the fins look better if they are kept exclusive to farsight himself.

The plastic XV8s have a circular power core between their trusters - I was thinking of something similar. Perhaps cutting the center out of a plastic XV8 jetpack would work - I just need to find out where I could buy crisis jet packs as I only have 3 spares.

When you say the 'enforcer' is too big, is that another word for the XV9 suits? I think they would be ideal for this, unless it is they you consider too big.

The enforcer is the new finecast commander suit. XV9 are forge world hazard suits.

Maybe some of the extra broadside or riptide bits? they have a lot of extra little fins and wargear-esque type pieces on them.

Or maybe some parts of the plasma bomb thing from the sunshark?

Or use he fin assembly, but maybe cut off a few of them?
(the number of fins denotes rank?).

best of luck on this, it is a cool project and thanks for sharing with everyone.

The farsight jet pack without all the sensor spikes/fins just wasn't sitting right with me. From the side view, the jet packs just had a weird looking shape - I like the classic, bulkier look to the jet pack. Here is the crisis suit with the old style of jet pack attached to it - I feel as though it keeps it more in-line with the XV8 codex art.

I'm also thinking about buying one of the new crisis commanders (enforcer suit, not the FW XV9 - although I will be using an XV9 for my commander bravestorm in iridium armour). My concern with the enforcer suit is his longer than normal legs, along with his lengthened jetpack (4 thrusters instead of the usual 3). If I shorted the legs, I'm concerned the jetpack would just look too large (but that is an experiment for another day!)

Let me know what you think of jetpack swap - it certainly makes it easier to mount weapon systems/support systems on the shoulders and not just the arms.

Edit: Oh I also cut up farsight's right arm so that the sword is no longer in a sweeping pose, I prefer him to be "leading the charge".
