I know some people pay others to paint their stuff, but do people pay others to build their stuff?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

If I'm not converting a model I'm really, really not a fan of gluing stuff together.

Yeah, there's people who do commission assembly, converting, and painting pretty regularly. I know there's people in my group who've given money to other folks just to get a particularly stubborn unit assembled or something.

Check out my Youtube channel!

I've known older gamers with debilitating hand problems and had people put their stuff together, though they generally just traded models for it. Also a guy with a hypersensitivity to superglue had me put a bunch of stuff together for him.

It doesn't require quite as much skill or finesse to assemble something as to paint it, but it's still time-consuming, especially if there's a bunch of mold lines or it's an awful old metal model with a thousand fiddly bits.

there are people that hate assembly, and, more to the point, hate.... just loathe, cleaning the parts up. It can be a fair bit of work if you have high standards, since the tiniest hint of a seam might, in your eyes, ruin the paint job... take Blue Table Painting for instance. I don't think there is one part of the hobby they don't cover. I've seen them do custom sculpts, conversions, assembly, painting, touch up, terrain, terrain painting.....

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

I've known a few physically disabled gamers who've paid people to build their models. 2 could paint so left it at that.
Also I've done the odd conversion for mates (esp when inq came out & it was run as in 28mm scale rather than 54).
If you don't want to put them together, can find someone & have the cash, go for it - it's a shame you're not in the UK otherwise I would offer.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I guess it falls into the same category as commission painting. The person either doesn't have the time, the patience or the perceived ability to do what they want to do, so they pay someone else to do it. If it works for you, go for it.

Good to know, thanks guys. I'm not disabled but I don't have tons of time and unlike painting or converting, I am not a fan of spending time to do it, especially getting rid of all those mold lines.
