Adolescent Youth on Ultramar

I am very new to wargaming in general, but I really enjoy Warhammer 40k (the fluff, the way it plays out, rules interpretations, etc.). I have been playing SUPER casually with my friends who got me into it (Tau, Ork, and IG/Chaos).

For background, I am playing a chapter that was lost in the warp for 10,000 years, and recently emerged. They are supposed to be very hardy and "Hold the line" type of space marines, and I love tanky CC guys. So far, I have 10 Assault Termies with SS/TH, scouts, tactical marines, a land speeder, a librarian, a chapter master, and my main guy who will represent my HQ (like I said, we are very casual). In my first battle, I played them as Ultramarines with Cato Sicarius, and I was not that much of a fan (too squishy to fight an orc Warboss). In the second one, I played Lysander and loved him, but I am not really taking advantage of the chapter tactics (and nothing in Sentinels of Terra excited me much).

All of this rambling gets me to the point (i hope), is there a way to make a lysander like character for another chapter, or do you end up giving up too much? So far, the shield relic on a chapter master seems to get you most of the way there, but losing the Str 10 weapon really hurts against Orks. Am I missing something or is that about the sum of it?

Thats about the sum of it. If you want a super resilient HQ, the closest you can get is Chapter Master, Shield Eternal and a 2+ save of some kind. For what you're describing, I'd go with the Iron Hands Chapter Tactics and take a Chapter Master with Shield Eternal, Burning Blade, and Terminator Armor and stick him with your Assault Termies as a body guard. He'll get 4 attacks at S7, I5 and have a 2+/3++/6+ FNP. He'll also have EW so the warboss' power klaw is not a huge concern.

I used to use Lysander but wanted to use IH chapter tactics (for fluff reasons). So now I run a terminator chapter master with TH and shield eternal. Artificer armour is cheaper, but you lose relentless which means staying put for a turn to drop the pie plate.

Thanks for the quick replies. Do you think that losing the Str 10 weapon will cause me a lot of problems? I was lucky and got his warboss in one challenge turn because of insta kill, but I am not sure how I would have fared, otherwise.

I've never used a strength 10 CC weapon, but my CM with Artificer Armor, Shield Eternal, Thunder Hammer, and Jump Pack is an extremely mobile beat stick. Of course we don't have Orks in my area for whatever reason, but I'd imagine anything above strength 6 being reasonable enough to deal with most threats.
