This army started off entirely different and looked pretty much like everything else Ive done. Dark, same colors, same bases. Blah. I wanted to be sure and do something different so I gave them a Simple Green bath. I had modeled them after Russians from the Nepoleonic era. Green, white, and red and bases to look like a grassy plain. Yeah they looked ok, but not Grimdark. I decided to use whatever colors I would normally dismiss. Ordinarily, I consider white pants a critical fashion mistake regardless of the millenium, but what the hell. Same with the bases. I hate painting dirt but I think it works ok. Still a WIP on that one, may add some dead grass or something. I wanted a lightly colored army and it looks like I am there. I plan some scratch built heavy weapons and terrain. Also going to organize the army as if it were bigger than it can be represented FOC wise. For example, the platoons are going to be big and will be called 'companies'.

Anyway, I am trying to theme this army as a desert force moving into a previously held position. Im not really sure where this army will end up, but lets get started just the same.

I like the look of those. The white with tan works well in your desert-themed force.

Wow, thanks for all the comments gents. I'm glad there is some interest in the old Mordians. I didn't think of the Foreign Legion angle. They do look like those boys. That's good, all the terrain, objectives, everything will have a dessert angle. If things go well, I may have a mortar squad finished up by tomorrow.

Well, well well. HAY NEAT THREAD!

I like the start already.

I would say a dried shrubby really should spruce up the place, or a cacti for some color explosion (even cacti flowers.)

They remind of brits.

Let see the mortar team.

Alright, mortars are up. I wanted the bases to represent quickly prepared fighting positions. The barbed wire is something I've never tried before. It worked out ok, good learning experience. I didn't use the actual mortar crew, I used missile launcher guys, a las cannon gunner and 3 regular riflemen. A couple WIP shots of the next squad.

@Dinamarth- Well! Welcome to the new thread. I surprised myself. I'm not an earth tones kinda guy. Never thought I would be doing an army using shades of brown.

@Lucazi- Hey man, thanks for dropping by. Yeah the Dark Angels found a happy home somewhere in Alaska. I have a poor track record with those guys, I can never get anything right for some reason.

Speaking of getting it right. I finished 5 guys for the next squad and have decided to redo the bases. Still desert, but maybe some ruins or something. I swear, I have no idea why I obsess in bases so much. Pics tomorrow.

Or maybe pics now.

These look great trim and ordered but not stupidly ignoring the conditions they are in. I'm also a big fan of the classic guard regiments.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Great work rates and really nicely done guardsmen. The color choices are excellent.

@Llamahead- Thanks man. And yeah, the classic guard are great. It's hard to appreciate the old metal guys with all the new stuff but they have so much character.

@panda- Thank you sir, I think you have an update I need to check out.

And here is the next group up. These guys will finish the platoon and that pile of plastic is a sentinel. He is actually in good shape, just fell apart when I stripped him. Also trying out some new bases.

I do like the tile added. Adds a small story to the units.

Glad you like it panda. I'm gonna do some terrain with this army and the tile will help pull it together. A quick WIP of some infantry and redone bases.

Also got my hands on a Mesdua. It is the start of the artillery company. My goal is a second Medusa, 2 Basilisks and a Manticore. Plus whatever awesomeness comes with the new codex. Whenever that is.

That is some boss painting! Never would have thought of this scheme for the Mordians, but it's unique and it rocks!

How many Mordian models do you have? Enough to field a full army?

Personally I think the classic guard more than hold their own against the modern sculpts. They are more subdued archetypes but that's precisely what guard should be.

looks like a great start. It's great to see how your bases are evolving over time.
Very nice colour scheme and it ooks like you've already got half the army

It's really rare to see sentinels these days, heres hoping they get some love in the next codex.

Completely agree with you, what they lack in pose-ability they more than make up for in style

Loving the concept and the execution is great. I like your officers and sgts a lot. Keep it up! I'm interested to see what you do with your vehicles.

@Kaiserbudheim- Thanks man, and yes I have about 100 Mordians right now. Planning on 2 big platoons and a couple veteran squads right now. Will almost certainly change that though.

@Llamahead- I know, you would think they would have a plastic "dress" army. They have everything else. Dress armies really fit the weird vibe IG armies are supposed to have. Speaking of which, I have some weirdness planned for these guys.

@OneManNoodles- Well! Thanks for stopping by! Thanks and yeah, I love Sentinels too. It seems they would be perfect to support infantry. Then again, I've never played so aside from them looking cool, I don't really know how they work.

@Paradigm- Good to see you over here too. Glad you like the scheme.

@Boblogik- thanks man, I'm interested to see about the vehicles too. Haven't decided how to paint them.

I finished up the second squad and the first platoon/company is done for now. I will probably add another squad but that will be later on. A small group shot:

That's awesome that your Dark Angels found a new home! I too put soooooo much thought into my bases, check out my pictures and look at my Ravenwing Black Knight bases. I just gave my first army, my Dark Eldar a new home in Australia.

Your bases look good, they give the bikes a sense of motion, especially the downhill one.

Continuing with my theme of using colors I have never considered before, a WIP of the Leman Russ. Still lots to do but you get the idea.

Thanks Tinfoil, I appreciate you stopping by

So the tank is a disaster. Back to the drawing board. The blue turret was awful and the light beige wasn't working. Experimented with camo. No. So I am working another batch of infantry while I work it out.

Still looking good. I like the Matilda scheme linked, but I think there are also other desert schemes that would also look really good. (I just googled "desert tank camo" and a bunch of interesting looks came up).

That is a pretty cool scheme for camo. The more I think about it, the more the camo seems out of place with these guys. I guess I will settle on 1 color, possibly with a 2nd on the turret. Fortunately I have a gallon of Simple Green and Im not afraid to use it.
