So I've recently begun a Black Templars Army, and so far only have infantary: (all unbuilt mind you :p)

1x Commander
1X Command Squad (will hopefully become honour guard)
3x tactical squads
1x scout squad (for neophytes)
2x Assault Sqauds

And I'm in talk with a guy, who's suggested a trade for his NOS storm talon. I'm intrigued, but uncertain.
I will almost exclusively be playing against tyranids, just me and a mate who play, and I don't think he has any anit-air whatsoever. I know they are fragile, but this has to be of some benefit.
I'm mainly only considering getting one because I can trade for it. If I was going to buy a vehicle, I'd either go landraider or stormtalon.

So thoughts guys?

He doesn't have Flyrants?

Are you looking for a competitive answer or a friendly answer?

Storm talon vs landraider, Id go for the Talon, Weaker, but cheaper, harder to hit, not a very impressive weapons loadout for damage, but it would probably serve you good since he will most likely drop a lot of shots into it to take it down, instead of those going towards your infantry

All I know is he proxies a carnifex (I think) as a tervigon for his HQ, So I'm thinking he doesn't have one.

And I'd like both I'm not a player who rages when he loses, I'm just looking for fun games but I'd like to hear all your thoughts.

I was thinking putting a typhoon missle launcher on there for more infantary killing power, and it shouldn't go too badly against MC's. I could use it along side my Assault marines to deny him of objectives - he's always using his spawned gaunts to camp on objectives at the back of the map! :p

Mind you, I've only had 2 games with him (and one interrupted one) where we proxied, so I'm not very experienced with this army.

Storm talon would be great if he doesn't have any flyrants. Even if he did I would still take one as you need the anti air if he did. Only thing I've used as a nid player to down a ST without using a flyrant is a unit of hive guard. Granted if they hit you you are in trouble as you can't jink the shot and they are S8.

Competitively you'd dominate with a Storm Talon. It sounds like he has literally no answer for it.

That said, it means he needs to use points to take them in the first place

I'm not looking for my force to be overly competitive, just fun. So I'm probably gonna go ahead with the trade, its for a unit of 10 black orcs I wanna get rid of, so its doing me a favour at the same time

Thanks for all the responses guys! Feel free to keep posting if you'd like

That's kinda what I've been thinking about, he really doesn't have anything to take it down. I'm looking forward to have a flier, I've never used one.

He could use that Fex as a fex with twin linked brainleech devourers and stand a pretty decent chance of at least stripping some hull points from it.

On building Tyranid army flow chart.

Do you have enough Termagaunts?

The tervigon is his HQ, and he has nothing else to run in its place.

Talons versus nids are very effective. They have a high ROF to help cull infantry and a high enough strength to help put wounds on monstrous creatures. Strafing Run on the Talon makes him BS5 versus everything not flying so skyhammer missiles and typhoon missiles are even deadlier than normal.
