Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a beautiful token. I think the sculptor did a nice job with the lettering.

I have mixed emotions, however, about using this as a gaming token.

Jefferson Memorial Token

The Jefferson Memorial is my least favorite D.C. token. The Jefferson Memorial is big enough to be terrain rather than a token.

Token - Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is big, the tallest stone structure and tallest obelisk in the world. This collapsed Monument would be better as terrain than a token.

Token - Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

The FDR Memorial is my second favorite of these tokens. Although I live fairly close to D.C., I don’t remember visiting this memorial. By comparing the pictures of the memorial to the token, however, it appears the sculpture took some minor liberties, specifically using the Roosevelt’s name next to Fala, his Scottish terrier. In the pictures of the FDR Memorial, I don’t see his name near Fala. Still, this is a great sculpt.

This is my favorite of these NOVA Open D.C. Narrative Tokens. I like the Lincoln Memorial and this particular sculpt.

Deathwing Ancient with Deathwing Company Banner

Old Deathwing Ancient

Last June I shared pictures of my Deathwing Ancient but noted that I tore it apart and planned to rebuild it with the Knight Master body. Below is the result.

New Deathwing Ancient – Front

The wings on the back give this a real Dark Angels look. If you compare this new model to my old model you would see that the flag, the head, the storm bolter arm, and the Power Fist are the same. The only difference is the body with the wings. The new body has a different robe.

Deathwing Knight with Recycled Deathwing Ancient Body

I took the body I removed from my Deathwing Ancient and reused it for another Deathwing Knight.

Deathwing Knight with Recycled Deathwing Ancient Body

The hooded head is from Puppetwar in Poland at puppetwar.eu.

I feel a little guilty about Puppetwar. Several months agos I recommended their heads online but noted that the heads shipped from Poland and it took a long time for the heads to be shipped to me in the United States. Then I ordered some more heads from Puppetwar. Puppetwar has changed their shipper and I got the new heads in about a week. In the meantime, I ordered some Necrons from Games Workshop. Games Workshop didn’t ship my models for over a month so it took about six weeks before I got my models. Obviously, I was mistaken. Now if you want your models fast, go with Puppetwar, not Games Workshop.

The Royal Wardens

Right now, I am addicted to Necrons even though I have the new Dark Angels codex, Dark Angels are strong now, and I have many Dark Angel models. Still, I keep working on my Necrons. I am painting a new army with a new color scheme and especially playing around with Turbo-dork paints.

I went to my local Games Workshop store to pick up 10 new Warriors and the manager suggested I pick up Recruit Addition Starter Set instead for 5 dollars more. It includes the 10 Warrior plus a Royal Warden, a Primaris Lieutenant, 5 Assault Intercessors, dice and a little terrain. I built the 10 warriors and experimented with paint job on the new Royal Warden. I used four different Turbo-dork paints on him, pearly gate for the head and Miami Sunset for the pronotum (shoulder pads) which are the same paints on my other Necrons. But I added Multipass and Blue Steel, the same colors that I added to the Silent King. I also used Burnt Sienna to undercoat the Miami Sunset and the Multipass. Below is the new Royal Warden next to the old Royal Warden.

Royal Wardens – Front

The new Royal Warden is on the left, the old on the right. The results are similar. The left has a little more blue. The Multipass amulet around the neck of the left Warden’s head is almost the same color as the metallic gold over the Miami Sunset of the amulet on the right. Generally, I like the new Royal Warden on the left better more then I like the old Royal Warden on the right. The exception are the green eyes that are better on the right. Still the difference are minor.

Royal Wardens – Right Side

Royal Warden – Rear

The undercoat of Burnt Sienna seemed to make little difference although the Miami Sunset on the left seems a little brighter and smoother than that on the right. I like the technique but I suspect the results would be better on my bigger models. It can save me a little money since I don’t need as many layers of the Turbo-dork Miami Sunset and Multipass if they are over a layer of Burnt Sienna. Burnt Sienna is cheap and plentiful while Turbo-dork is expensive and difficult to find.

The Royal Warden

Here are some more pictures of my new Royal Warden. In the first picture, he is on the left side of the old Royal Warden.

Royal Wardens

The Royal Warden is one of those Necron headquarters with high zenergy to core units, especially warrior blobs. Still, I suspect that two royal wardens are overkill.

Royal Warden – Right

I also played around with the colors on the base. The original bases had fluorescent orange over white to create the effect of lava. In these new bases, in addition to the flourescent orange over white, I brushed a high flow Naphtha Red Light over parts of the base and on the lower legs of the model to represent reflected OSL (object source lighting) from the glowing lava. This made the lava appear more realistic.

Lynchguard with Hyperphase Sword and Dispersion Shield

About six weeks after I ordered them from Games Workshop, my Lynchguard models arrived. I finished the first five and took pictures of four of them. I built the Lynchguard per the Games Workshop instructions except that I used the heads for the Triarch Praetorians (the models could be built either as Praetorians or as Lynchguard) and I cut off the tabs off the Dispersion Shields.

Lynchguard - Front

I used the same color scheme as my second Royal Warden except that I added a Turbo-dork Cool Ranch blue to the center on the Dispersion Shield.

Ankra the Colossus

Ankra the Colossus is an Overlord made for kill team. In comparing him to the picture of the overlord in the Necron codex, it appears that Ankra is a mirror image of the standard Necron Overlord. This was a fun model to paint, especially the OSL (object source lighting) from the Resurrection Orb.
