I guess all those who said a new version of Quest would be impossible because of the cost of making all those cards were dead wrong.

It would seem to suggest that the times they have a changed enough for that to no longer be an issue.

I have to admit, I like the look of this. The skull islands are corny, but not at all unexpected. The ships are gorgeous. Love the floating undead ship and the mechanical kraken.

I would be more excited about it if I had seen these pictures a month ago so I could have budgeted for it, though. As it is, I'll probably have to pass.

Just woke up and saw this and I think that's £70 comfortably saved.

I haven't read the background detail yet, but I don't think the minis are that great (not Space Hulk great anyway) and I don't see where you could go with it.

I think they went overboard (ho ho) with the number of races and think less would have been more if you see what I mean.

Anyhow, I say misfire and I'd be surprised if it actually sells out that quickly.

So, 5 warships per side, plus an assortment of auxiliary models like a dragon, etc? I'm not that impressed by the concept. The models themselves are nice, but that's not enough to save the game from Davy Jones' locker.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The baby woke me at 4, so I've been mulling this over for a few hours now.

As expected its less than the rumoured price and looks great. Lots of quality models in there and of some size too. I'm really curious about the fabric mat, sounds interesting.

I'll be getting this, £70 really isn't that much for all that game.

Also whoever was lording FFG needs to look at HH, about the same price, good but not the same quality of minis and also no expansion.

You know what, instead of buying this I am going to spend $190 on battle fleet gothic. Now that is a good waste of money.

I'd much rather look at any of their games that don't require GW's almighty 'ok' to produce. Tanhauser, Battlelore, Descent, Talisman, Dust - the list goes on and on.

I just watched the trailer, and got the Incoming! email from GWS.

The actual minis look terrific. The game looks like it could be a lot of fun.

That being said, $115 is well out of the zone I'd be willing to pay for a one-shot game that doesn't integrate into anything I already have. I would have considered it at 60 or 70 bucks. Space Hulk was a very different proposition since I could use the Terminators for 40k (and of course, I already know that I like SH, this one is an unknown).

The box art is wow, a huge miss. I can't think of a less compelling box art to have gone with. If they took the words "dread fleet" off of it, I'd have no idea what it even was about. They should have removed that giant yellow mess in the middle and included some smaller pictures of actual ships in a way that you could recognize what the hell was going on.

I think the sole reason GW made this thing was to tell Spartan "This is how you make cool fantasy ships, n00bs."

Even if a few of then mimic Spartan's ideas (like the dead whale, but not the mecha-squid - that one is far too recent to have influenced Dread Fleet development).

I'd prefer an expendable game, that's for sure, but I might still be getting this. The rules certainly look like they have the potential to be far more engaging and tactical than Spartan's.

I was just thinking this. I like the space-iness of BFG over the look of Dread Fleet.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Not interested in the slightest. If I wanted to play a game involving ships, I would have started up a BFG fleet

The game just looks too mashed together - there are too many races and ship designs just hurled onto the board. I much prefer the Uncharted Seas style of united fleets sailing around shooting each other.

Looks to me like Pirates of the Carribean after being dragged down a back alley, raped, beaten, and sent back out into the street in a clown costume.
GW has some serious talent and a proven record of kicking out some really good stuff. Not this time, though, in my own opinion.

GW has granted your wish, I think, on this one. To me, this game appears quite expendable.

I have to say I'm not impressed, the inidividual models are nice but there's too few ships and too much variety to get a coherent looking fleet. For just a little bit more money I could pick up two starter fleets and a rule book for one of Spartan's three systems and play that with somebody. Given that I already play Firestorm Amada (and own 2 fleets) I really don't see the point in buying this.

Still if a friend were to pick it up at some point I'd certainly give it a go.

I don't see it. Move, shoot, board, win/lose. At least Spartan's allows for combat between large amounts of ships, individual decks of cards for each race, expandable and creative factions, and an assortment of air assets.

Also, remember who GW markets to nowadays - I can't see this game having minimum move distances, turn radii, random wind that either hinders/benefits your movement (or doesn't affect you if your ships aren't wind-powered), and range bands that encourage players to get their ships into 'sweet spots', while attempting to out-maneuver enemy ships.

Hit and miss with this one, I think most of the models are really nice (I love the floating dead ship, and the tomb king ones) but I really can't see myself getting into it (especially not at £70!!!!).

Huh? Where from people get the idea that FFG board games are cheap?

Not cheap - but priced realistically. If this game was exactly the same and produced by FFG, it wouldn't cost so much.

If FFG can make a game like this for only $90, then I can imagine something with the amount of content in Dreadfleets being much less. Unfortunately, the game comes with the GW tax.

Back OT: I would have been all over this game if it was expandable. When I first started getting into wargaming, I was really interested in Man 'O War and always regretted not getting into it while it was around.

Likewise. I've been wanting to get into Man'O'War for years as it always seemed like the coolest game. That's why, upon hearing about this game, my heart jumped. I thought they were finally bringing back a retooled version of Man'O'War, but alas it was not to be. This seems cool too, and I quite like the "standard board game in a box" approach because it lets me play with mates who wouldn't touch miniature games with a broom, but for 90 euros it had better be something special indeed.

So I guess I'm in the "waiting to hear more about it" camp.

Wargames are neat.

Wow, I'm actually pretty impressed.

After watching the video this one actually went from a, "I'm not at all interested," to a "ehhh, close but no cigar."

All things considered the components look great...I'd prefer a a little more cohesion, but there isn't an individual ship that I don't like.

If it was a bit cheaper and there were some expansions in the pipeline I'd be per-ordering this baby...and I'm in the middle of a serious blood-feud with GW.

Quality of the miniatures would also be something far less. Of course, still enough for a board game.

I'm familiar with the FFG games, thank you. I play them lot myself. And I'm quite puzzled where this "FFG does everything better and cheaper" comes from, because it sure as heck isn't true in my experience.

It does look pretty, but I'd want to be sure that the actual game is any good before even contemplating paying £70 for it. The quality of the components means that the price point isn't totally unreasonable (unless one lives in the southern hemisphere, of course), but with no guarantee that the game will be balanced or even fun, I'm not willing to risk that much on something that may turn out to be a pretty, bulky, waste of money that sits on the shelf and never gets played.
