Subject: Payday 2 - DAY 6: Wolf brings drills & First World Bank heist
Played First World Bank late last night, it's nice to rampage though that one again. They did change a few things in the layout, but it is stealth friendly at least.
Also, chances are they'll add in more classic maps down the road, here's hoping that Green Bridge also makes the cut at some point.

It was pretty disappointing, and what, half of the "free content" are really patches that should have been in since beta. I mean, ffs a JUMPING animation? cmon.

Almir's AMA is up, and if you were hoping for actual answers, prepare to be disappointed by largely canned response about how they thought the community would LOVE micro transactions.
Also, if anyone wants to refund the completely overkill pack, you can still do it because part of the content was considered a pre-order (content of the safe is more or less confirmed skins btw dataminers)

Their decision makes a lot of sense marketing-wise. Micro-transactions are the most profitable way of earning money in video games by a huge, huge margin. Extremely little effort for a high amount of cash. The time was right too - Payday 2 already is quite old and now that they are remaking existing maps, if you compare similar development cycles in comparable games, the next game isn't too far away. They were well aware of their community realizing that they were a bunch of dirty, money-hungry liars, but if, again, we compare similar events, you only lose out on a one-digit % number of players which, given the insane price policy they rock, could be at about 2-6%. People who invested a lot of money in the game will not quit it. Period. And since you /will/ have invested 80ish+$ as a long-time player, you will most likely stick to the game unless you don't care about the money. People hate buyer's remorse more than anything.
tl;dr: Overkill are, morally, donkey caves but, economically, they made the right decision.
Personally, I've found the event rather disappointing and their choice to implement the safes a bad thing, but I still enjoy the game. I'm glad I didn't purchase the Complete Overkill pack, because if the rumours are true, then I'd feel awfully ripped if it contained a safe and drill.
In the end the only good things from the event, IMHO are..
- Bipod for LMG
- First World Bank & Slaughterhouse maps
I was hoping for the voice overhaul update that Simon Viklund had been hinting at on Twitter for some time now, but alas, I'm guessing they're saving that for another day.

Huh, that does surprise me, but then again, companies have made a 360 on certain choices before.
Makes me wonder what's going to be in the Complete Overkill pack now.
edit.
Nopenopenopenope. You didn't read that right.
The CRIMEFEST safe and drill will be gone in a few days, the normal safe drops will stay.
Their quote:
Please note: the safes and drills as a system are here to stay. It's just the Crimefest safe and drill that will no longer be attainable in-game; another safe and drill series will take its place.

What the hell IS WRONG with Overkill? Just...wow. After the huge backlash when introducing Pay-to-win mechanisms to the game, they create /another/ poopoo-storm.
They now introduced a new safe that contains skins...at random quality and rarity. Pay cash to get random stuff, chance to get complete trash while player B gets a good one. Digital lottery, yay. And the game gets /another/ F2P feature, a "boost" system that increases XP/Cash gain.
As a consequence, Reddit is in a huge uproar again and Overkill's steam moderators went on strike and refuse to keep doing their job in response to Overkill's latest move.
What a bunch of monkeys.
I love that they blame the games press for the huge uproar the last time they did this. Yeah, kill the messenger.
Bigger dickmove is the people who got the Complete Overkill Pack also getting a bunch of free DLC, which they'll no doubt already have to begin with. I mean, if you're going to give them €25 for something unknown, chances are you've already gotten all the DLC up to that point.
Too little, too late for me, I'm afraid. I'm a casual, played in spurts, but I bought 4-packs for my friends. Still, 21 DLC packs bought and 116 hours played. Now they've burnt their bridges with me for any more DLC, any new games, or for Payday 3.

4 melee weapons, 1 pistol. Maps can be played by anyone who doesn't need to host, not even mentioning the worthless achievements that seriously get sold as "content".
But you're right, I totally forgot about the masks.
Yeah, I seriously doubt any of the DLC are really worth it, especially when it's something like one char, a weapon, and a perk deck, or a map and maybe two weapons. Or just two weapons, one of which sucks worse than the starting AR.

Again, the character, perk deck, box cutter and sniper rifle are free.
The DLC pack itself comes with the two heists, pistol, four new melee weapons, four new masks and the assorted mask upgrades you usually get.
I've only played the oddly named Birth of Sky heist so far, which is a mixed bag. It starts off great, on board a transport plane in flight, where you have to fight through to reach the cargo bay controls and drop the ramp, presenting a nice, short but fierce CBQ section. Then you parachute out and land in a more familiar map setting with loads of snipers, an annoying "one of the money pallets has fallen apart upon landing, so Locke is going to remind you of this Bain style every two minutes" and a more general "hold out until the chopper can take away the money pallet" thing. The mission ends with a boat ride through the sewers. Strong start, rest is a bit meh, nothing too new sadly aside from the start and skydiving into a town.
Hoping to give Beneath the Mountain a try some time this weekend, though judging from the description it may be Shadowraid on loud.
