He's really nasty, sticky, gooey - a filthy marvellous mess. Inspiring work chief.

@CK, thank you sir
@Graven thanks

It snowed all day Sunday, usually my better half and I spend the day working out and going for lunch, so I dug thru the bitz box and found an old Captain someone gave me. I need to work on skin tones and eyes so decided to work on that. I took some advice from Gitz on how to do eyes, had to redo it 3 times before getting to this point, still needs work but I think it is getting there.

Any CC welcome, and thanks for looking.

Nice work! My advice for eyes is to paint the socket in dark skin shade instead of black (a dark brown in this case). It would make the black near the nose look like a deep shadow.

A Squeaky Waaagh!!

Nicely done on the captain!

I'm trying new techniques, practicing old ones for doing eyes and skin tomes as well- still don't like what I'm getting. It can be frustrating re-doing work several times trying to steady my (older than they used to be) hands, but I remember the great pool player Willie Mosconi (I think) attributing his skill at the game due to the fact that he 'stroked, not poked' with the cue.

I'm trying to be very deliberate with the brushes the same way.

Great stuff!

Good work.

I'm not one for painting the actual eyes on this scale, I just leave dark recesses.

One thing I'd say about what you have, is to try and go across the top of the eye with skin to close the eye a little and make him look less surprised.

But who am I to talk, I just avoid the issue altogether.
You'll see soon enough in my blog, I'm about to post some face shots.

Looks great. The trick I heard on doing eyes is to instead of trying to do a dot, do a small line from top to bottom. If you try and only do a dog the tip of the bristles on your brush could go any direction, if you try and do it like a small line you are dragging the bristles in a controlled direction so both pupils will be looking one way and you won’t have lazy eyed guys who haven’t slept for weeks.

Love the metal effect on Epidemius need to look up Nerdy's technique.

Oh, and thanks for the tip on eyes Theophany. What you've been describing is exactly what I've been struggling with too. Shall give the line technique a go

Saw it on a YouTube channel by Luke https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCsmD5774MOQhjYBkXqu3Jdw I think it’s his how to paint faces video. Took me a while honestly to get past the English accent (think it’s english and not Scottish of Irish, sorry for offending you all ) and the gauge earlobes (a personal annoyance to me as I really disliked a guy I worked with that had them), but he is very helpful with ideas and techniques. Also where I’ve gotten lots of project ideas from.

Thanks guys for the input on the eyes, I may go back and try it again on the Captain. He does look like he has a bit to much eyeliner on. Thanks for the compliment on the white Graven, again that is a color I have trouble with and need to practice more on.
Still waiting on my Bushido figs, ordered the Savage Wind starter box. Ogres, goblins and hopefully a homemade gaming board, it only has to be 2 x 2 how hard can that be?

A 2x2 table is easier than a 3x3. Plus I’ve seen videos where they used the table to be the inside of a temple in Bushido. Looking forward to seeing more Asian inspired works all around.

@Theo, no he is not part of the starter box (still waiting on that), I picked him up at a shop near me that buys used figs. This one came without a base or the usual game card so he was a bit cheaper than new. I had no idea if he is any good, but one of the local Bushido players says he is quite good in game, yay me!

@ Theo, thank you. He does have quite a bit of magical paraphanalia about his person. Potion bottles, a femur and sickle for a weapon.

@Gitz, not sure there are gorillas in Japan, perhaps a large monkey of some kind. ;-)

@Graven lol and here I thought he looked like Yoda.

Thanks guys, not been in the painting mood lately. Waiting on my Bushido starter box still, shot them an email after waiting ten days said they would look into it from their end. Normal time from the UK is 3 to 7 days, my guess lost in the warp.

Did get a chance to play 40k so I thought I would toss in some pics. 2000 pts per side SW vs DG, I ran the majority of my painted army led by Mortarion. My opponent ran his 30k army with his dreads proxied as the SW dreads with shield and frost axes. Game went 5 turns and was a kill point mission. It was very close till the last turn when I lost the Primarch, SW dreads in CC are nasty. He made 13 3+ saves vs Mortarion, the only damage I did to them was with mortal wounds. I think I need more anti tank weapons he had most of his vehicles left at the games end. It was a fun game and Tom is a great opponent.

Thanks for looking.
