So, here's a thing... I have a whole bunch of old Rogue Trader-era beakies sitting in a box downstairs, and I decided that if they were going to be sitting there, I might as well do something with them. So here's a test paint for a new Space Marine force, which (for now, at least) I'm calling the Ebon Crux.

It's a bit rough as this was just thrown together in between doing a bunch of other stuff today. The chapter badge in particular needs some refining... but it's good enough to see how they'll look. I'll probably put them together as a second edition force - a couple of Marine squads, a squad of the old plastic scouts, some original Space Hulk terminators and a metal Rogue Trader-era Dreadnought I picked up off eBay some time ago. Maybe a Predator or Whirlwind (the old kitbash version, just because I can) if it will fit in points-wise.

They're great, and i love the heavy weathering. Maybe they've been lost in the warp?

Does my heart good to see the old beakies get some love.

Settling on rules for them... I think they'll wind up as Dark Angels, so I can run the ancient Termies as Deathwing. Also gives me an excuse to pick up some Vincent Black Shadows later...

Another one from the cabinet - Orc Shaman, one of my favourite Avatars of War models. I use this guy as a Weirdboy in my 40K Ork army.

That's a cracking sculpt and a great paint, total snakebite weirdboy vibe.

You don't get much more classic Ork than the Shokk Attack Gun. I had one of these in my first army, which I (foolishly) sold and wound up tracking down another on eBay a few years back for the sake of nostalgia.

Test crew for Stargrave coming together... Since I haven't seen the full rules yet, this is pieced together from the crew creation rules excerpt based simply on what I think looks cool rather than how effective it will be in an actual game (which is how I tend to build forces for most games anyway), and the Captain and First Mate may need some tweaking once I get to see the equipment lists, but this is where they're at for now.

Mostly Maelstrom's Edge models, with a couple of ring-ins and useful parts from Hasslefree Minis and Wargames Atlantic. The Pathfinder (in the hat, front left) still needs a little putty on his legs, and then I can get some paint on!

Cheers, guys. And yes, the tyranid abdomen backpack remains one of my favourite conversion bits from my collection...

Looking forward to getting some time to work on new miniatures, but for the moment most of my time is taken up with this upcoming lovely...

Some nice restoration of old models there insaniak.

In my group, most of those models see the table still (at least they did before COVID).

"Welcome to the Argosa! She ain't much to look at, but... well, she ain't much. But she's what we got, until we can afford better."

"Uh... why does it look like a Fleet Courier?"

"'Cause she IS a Fleet Courier. Cap'n picked her up cheap at auction after our last ship... er... [mumble]. Come on in, y'can meet the rest of the crew as soon as you've been through The Process!"

"Er... The process? What process?"

"It ain't much. Probably won't even hurt much. Cap'n calls it Colourisin'."

Used my recruit, Dave, as a guinea pig to test the colour scheme for my fledgling Stargrave crew. Still needs basing (which I'll do all together at the end), a lens painted on the barrel of his 'energy pistol', and some final highlights if I feel like it later...

That ork with the shokk attack gun is bringing back very fond memories of destroying a terminator squad in a bunker with one shot. That gun was so hit-or-miss. Of course, the big metal gun made the model so top-heavy it was nerve-wracking to stand him on any elevated terrain! I haven’t seen one in years. I’m so glad you painted him.

Dave looks good. Red and black is always a great dynamic scheme. Or is that dark orange? Either way, looks good with the neutral khaki as a third color.

Or is that dark orange?

Yup, Gryph-Hound Orange Contrast over a bone basecoat.

Great scheme! How unified are you going the paint the crew? Are we going "rag-tag individuals" or "there's a ship uniform" or something in between?

They'll all have variations on the main colors, but individualised for each model.

Love the start of the Stargrave crew. I too have been busy working away on something, and I haven't yet put my order in! Priorities....

Still, nice that so many people are inspired I guess

2nd Stargrave crewman finished (aside from the base) - This one's a runner, named Lanky (L4-NK). Based on a Maelstrom's Edge Epirian Scarecrow with a pistol hand taken from the SecDef Lieutenant.
