Hi everyone!
Got a new phone and found I had difficulties uploading pics for a while. Weird.

I have been doing stuff though, so I'll try to post over the next few weeks to catch back up.

For today, just a quick one - I made a RED GOBBO Christmas Ornament!

Again, Im recycling some deoderant balls, they are just so useful Some WIP shots:

Cheers!

Superb work on the festive revolutionary lad I appreciate how many layers of GS went into giving that plastic ball sweet, goblin-y life.

Cheers folks, the Red Gobbo was a lot of fun to sculpt and paint - and only took me a couple of weeks (the larger scale didnt hurt tbh).

Today, im sharing a Model of the Month I did in... november 2022? I think? And its technically two models I guess - these are both from cursed city, and they were both knocked out in a single day (the FLGS had a 1 day painting challenge going).

Im not sure if you can see it here, but I attempted to 'sculpt' (i.e. cast in blue stuff) the blue tile & skull patterns on some of the cursed city boards. I'll see if I can get another pic to show it better

the other one was an objective token - pointing skellington

these were a lot of fun to paint - I was going for a night-time bright moon-lit view colouring, so no OSL to speak of but a definite dark blue tinge to everything.

Cheers

Not sure what happened there... posting problems...

Anyway - Time for a new update and today it is time for

TYPHUS

I went with very muted browns nd greens on Typhus, and soft pastel pinks and blues on this base, and I think it looks pretty good

Of course, the power scythe needed to grab a little attention...

This was part of a basing challenge in November and because I was on leave, i didnt have a lot of time left to get anything done. This old skool typhus insisted it was his turn to be out of the pile of shame, and I cobbled together the base and the banner in just a few days.

These little heads here fun to do

Happy with how this turned out, let me know what you think

Thanks Roknar - gotta say you are continuing to nail it over on your blog, those conversions are characterful af and really bring a sense of life and motion to the models. And steal away my friend, Im sure I stole it from somewhere else anyway

Another quick update - a quick warning as this one was is a little outside my norm"
- its not 40k (cue shocked gasps) and
- its not even games workshop (cue thuds as members of the notional audience faint)

This model is a 75mm 3d printed Elf Ranger from Dragon Trappers Lodge (https://direct.me/dragontrapperslodge) or https://www.instagram.com/dragon_trappers_lodge/?hl=en on instagram.

It was a really fun to do something a bit different, and im looking forward to the other model I grabbed - a similarly sized Shark Warrior from Archvillain Games.

Superb projects darkkt! I caught the gobbo over on twitter, he’s amazing! Really catches the character nicely. The colours on the cursed city stuff are great, I certainly got a bright moonlit night vibe from them.

Ok - finished pics coming up:

Oh, that's quite the pic dump there, sorry about that. Anyway - I really like my chosen colour scheme here, but bugger me those were a pain to try and blend together.... I wouldnt want to a whole army of these guys!

As always, let me know what you think!
cheers

Extra props for the candy striping

I meant to compliment your previous posts - the blending on the big elf is super nice, and I really dig Typhus, particularly the molten scythe. Smart bit of high contrast.

Those Emperors children look great! The pink is well executed and those hoofs are well done too. Those guys look like really dangerous sugar candy indeed.

Also, IMO, pic dumps are the best updates

Cheers folks

Well, its NEW YEAR NEW ARMY time!

...well its late Jan, so not really the New Year anymore I guess...
...and the army Im working on is more than 12 years old - im just restarting it...

so...
Its CURRENT YEAR OLD ARMY TIME!

I had a look at my pile of shame recently and noticed I had 60 or so unpainted Imperial Guard, about 5 Ogres, 3 or 5 imp guard tanks - all that I was going to convert to Traitor Guard back in ah... 2009!
This is what the 'finsihed' ones looked like:

not very impressive tbh, so time for a greenstuff glam-up

So in 2023 the Traitor Guard are going to be revisited and revamped. It will be slow work, but heres a bit of what Ive done so far:

First off ive created a Psyker HQ using a 1998 Ghoul:

im quite pleased with how this spine worked out:

Ive worked on a few standard troopers:

in my old attempt at traitor guard, I did a crap job of 'casting' greenstuff skulls. Im better at this now and can generally get good results - but for this army I want my skull decorations to be sculpted - like on these shoulderpads:

Im also playing with giving a few of them different guns - like shotguns:

im not sure about that guy's hood to be honest, I think I'll revisit it.

I am happy with how my 'tiny arrows' have been turning out:

and on this sentinel

speaking of the sentinel:

still got lots of work to do on the legs:

Ugh, when did sentinels get such large bases???

I'll try to keep dakka dakka updated with my progress, im aiming to get at least one update a week.

Cheers

How are you doing the spiky bits?
The sentinel quarter circle especially. That seems to be done in one go?? Every attempt in doing a similar design has ended in abject failure for me, never mind doing it in a single pass.

And how are you getting the smalll spikes? Those seem done on fresh greenstuff. That does not work for me at all.Just pulls everywhere and ruins the shape. And you somehow did this with the wrist/forarm in the way no less Oo

Also, kudos on the spine...want to try that at some point too but it scares the bajeesus out of me lol

Hi Roknar - I rarely use pure greenstuff, because of the 'pull' effect you get when trying to use it 'fresh'. Its difficult to get super-fine results at the best of times, and the stickiness and rubberiness of greenstuff adds extra hurdles.
Instead I use a mix of greenstuff and (currently) Apoxie Sculpt. Apoxie doesnt bind as much and makes the putty act more like clay. Increasing the proportion of greenstuff makes it stickier (which is useful itself in some situations. Heads up - ot does make the resulting putty harder, but more brittle. If you dont have access to apoxie, I would recommend yellow milliput instead.

By making it more like clay you can 'cut and drag' bits of unwanted putty away from the bit you are trying to sculpt with far more sharpness on the edges than pure sticky greenstuff allows.
I also created my own tool for getting into the sharp 'cuts' into the arrow or spike heads - basically a tiny tube or straw cut to a sharp point. the straw cuts into the putty but (generally) doesnt squash or otherwise deform the result.

The spine wasnt as hard as I thought it would be to be honest - I might have to see if I can make a tutorial of how I did it... Although realistically I stole most of it from modernsynthesis's youtube channel.

Thanks Boss and Guardling Im thinking of some good colours at the moment - Im thinking a drab tan and brownish red as the base elements, and then some dark metallics...

Ok, another quick update with the (I think) Finished Sentinel Conversion:

Woah didn't realise that is what you were doing with the sentinel, that's cool!
Although it does look a lot like it's falling backwards...needs some vertical details to make it deliberate, maybe angle the smoke stacks forward?

First off - work on my Corrupted Commissar!

There is probably more work to do on this lad, but im happy with the direction

a tiny start on a regular guardsman by adding the spiky banner poles

thanks to both of you
And well spotted Guardling - whilst one of the photos really exaggerated its lean, I had actually glued it in the wrong place with its raised leg too high! I have repositioned it and the angle looks more reasonable now

Loving it all. That spine especially is a step up from the last one. And you drilled out the barrel lol. That's nice. It's soft metal I've found that doesn't make it as easy as it sounds to drill
