Some of FW is seemingly going to get discontinued:

Phoenix & LYNX have gone to "no longer available" in some regions as stocks are being depleted. This usually means they are getting discontinued.

Forgeworlds site updates are a mess at the moment, it's common for items to be marked as 'no longer available' and then be back in stock in a week or two.

But it's also forgeworlds ongoing policy to randomly discontinue stuff without warning, you can never be sure.

Hoping this slight threadomancy will be forgiven.

Resurrecting because with the shiny new Beast Snaggas being a near 9th Ed Necron release for Orks, I’m ever more hopeful we’ll see the same for CWE.

If you’re new to this thread, the main rundown is in the OP. Feel free to read the whole thing (I like to think it’s a pretty constructive thread, and so worth the effort), but the OP should be primer enough. Maybe the first couple of pages.

I really want a new Asurmen, but I really don’t want GW to give the model a super dynamic pose.
Just something subtle please GW. It would make me very happy, even if the others more fancy posed.

Asurmen will almost certainly be standing on a thing and pointing.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

A new Asurmen would rock. My CWE collection is very small- it's the CWE half of Blood of the Phoenix + 1 box of Dire Avengers.

A plastic Asurmen would give me a second plastic Phoenix Lord and two boxes of Dire Avengers would round me out to a Battalion.

And since you mention Beast Snaggas- I think Eldar Exodites would be a fantastic force to fight against Snaggas. I too am very hopeful.

Cautious, yes... But hopeful all the same.

Yeah, the surprising revamp of the Ork boyz kit alongside the Beast Snaggas gives me hope they'll completely redo the Guardian models rather than adding an upgrade kit like they did with the Cadians. Ideally, warlocks are made unit leaders for them as well again, alongside the option to take them as a separate unit ala Seer Council. Similarly, I'm hoping that they really do you Eldar players right and do a proper range refresh of all the different aspect warrior lines. It's certainly long overdue.

Since they've been silent on Eldar for so long I get the impression there is a refresh in the works. The Necron line refresh took about 3 years flash to bang right? With current GW they don't like to hype that far in advance so I'm hoping we'll see a CWE refresh in 2022.

Starting with Aspect Warriors and Phoenix Lords, which in my opinion are the most unique looking infantry in the game.

Its worth keeping in mind that 9th edition is somewhat shadowing 2nd edition AoS with it's Soul Wars narrative.

The Necrons are pretty much the 40K counterparts to Legions of Nagash in AoS, for which we saw a large overhaul of no less than three factions. We also saw the return of the fantasy counterparts to the Craftworlds, the High Elves in the form of the Lumineth, which resulted in the Lumineth giving Nagash a good kicking and ending the soul wars...

My prediction is this; 9th edition will see a revamp of the Craftworlds range and Asurmen will lead an effort to drive back the Necrons just as things get dire for the Imperium.

Lumineth comparison is a good point. When LR received their second wave (11 plastic kits!), I couldn't help but think what it could have been as Eldar wave.

Made me laugh. But he'll probably be balanced on one leg and have magic swirls too.

I hope they don't give them the Space Marine--Primaris tank treatment, because the Jetbikes and Grav-Tanks overall design is perfect.

Wouldn't bet against it. With Orks & Necrons both getting major releases in the first year of 9th, I definitely hope CWE get their time in the sun this edition (and EC, of course - what a pairing that would be).

Cautiously optimistic. It'll have to happen sooner or later. Hopefully it's the former.

I just gets this weird feeling that GW will finally go 'all in' with Exodites, and leave Craftworlds in a bad state.

And the people who get super-offended when the old folks accuse GW of "replacing" their old armies with a different army they don't like instead of making their stuff work/doing better resculpts will all explode.

GW has a difficult problem with the CWE as if they spend all their next release slots doing new versions of the Phoenix Lords, Aspect Warriors, or other old units then people will no doubt complain of "nothing new, these are just boring rehashes of old models". Yet if they try to focus on releasing new CWE stuff then people will complain about "why is GW releasing new stuff when so much old stuff still needs updating". If GW tries a little bit of both, both sides will still complain, though personally I think that is what GW will go for. Need some new stuff to entice people who already have it all.

I broadly agree with the above, and I think the right approach would be to refresh some of the older sculpts while also releasing entirely new models.

I think part of the problem with Blood of the Phoenix was that (correct me if I’m wrong) it didn’t have anything completely new, only updated sculpts in plastic. People who had the old sculpts in finecast or metal were unlikely to get it just to replace the models they already have, and people who might consider starting to collect eldar are put off by how much of the rest of the range is still in need of an update.

On the other hand GW also has the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone here; updating old stuff makes fans of the old aesthetic happy, and you take an army that new players weren't starting because the minis are old and terrible, and giving them a reason to start playing it. You may notice that the Battle Sisters release didn't attract any "boring rehashes of old models!" complaints, and Sigmar's moved away from the weirder fringes back into updated versions of WHFB kits. I've heard no "waa boring rehashes!" complaints from the people looking at those minis, just the occasional "grr doesn't tesselate" from people trying to use them for 9th Age, and some complaining about how the Vampires release sold out so fast it's all impossible to find now.

Speaking as a longtime fan of the Eldar that absolutely was not the problem; people I know who had the finecast sculpts would have loved to get the Banshees/Incubi to replace the old ones. The problem was that they chose to bundle them with a Falcon and a Vyper to hike the price up, both of which are ancient kits and also some of the most useless things in the Craftworld book. If they'd done a new Falcon and updated its rules so it isn't just a worse Wave Serpent, and stuffed that in the box, it'd have sold massively better; as it was the Eldar players saw it as a cash grab and waited for the new stuff to come out on its own. And then bought them to replace their finecast/metal old minis.

That’s fair, but doesn’t make my point wrong. There can be more than one reason why something was unpopular. As it happens, I know some eldar players who have no interest in updated sculpts but would buy new models. And speaking for myself, I’ve always liked eldar, but have never collected them. One of the reasons for that is because there are so many old sculpts in the range and I have no interest in buying finecast miniatures.

If it kept the same rules it has now, it would only make some people more angry. And a lot of people happy, but those people don't buy eldar models.

One way to do the updating might be like Blood of the Phoenix in the sense of updating one Phoenix Lord and their Aspect at a time while doing a Charadon-like campaign book, where that Phoenix Lord happens to show up and play a part. That would allow them to dribble out the updating while keeping the main release for newer stuff.

that'd work. let's look at what CWE need updated for a moment. (I'm defining "needs updating" as "is finecast or metal kits" so let's try not to get bogged down in arguing if a plastic model is a bit long in tooth)

- Dark Reapers & Maghun-Ra
-Striking Scorpions & Karandas
- Warp Spiders
-Avatar of Khaine
- Rangers
-Fire Dragons & Feugan
-Asurman

so it'd be easy eneugh to do something along those lines. release Asurman alongside rangers and warp spiders. and then release the other aspects alongside their respective Pheonix Lord. and then do a big fancy Avatar Release and you'd have MOST of the eldar range in plastic. bar some special characters, and the only army that doesn't have any finecast special characters are the new ones that wheren't around during the "fine cast days"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Oh yeah. I'm sure Eldar players would love knowing that their updates are tied to a lengthy series of campaign books that update one unit at a time, with drip-fed plastics that get more and more expensive as time goes on. GW can cap off the whole multi-year exercise with the release of the 9th Ed Craftworld Eldar Codex that takes all the rules they players have spent years buying in dribs and drabs, and put them into a single book, completing the ritual, causing every Eldar player to burst into flames for all the wasted years and money.

You honestly think GW would give a massive new Avatar model that towers over the previous one the exact same rules that it has now?

Better than waiting years as they have been and getting nothing along the way. Meanwhile that leaves GW free to add new stuff for when the CWE Codex actually drops. GW dribbled out the Fire Prism long ago when it was first released and later the Night Spinner so it's not like it has never been done before.

If something like historical justice existed yes. Plus it would help them promote maybe a new eldar faction or an updated eldar faction where players would have to replace their collections, instead of just using their Artel and other companies models with a new rule set.
