So after an inspiration from Zambro's (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/555215.page) White Scar blog I decided to start my own (half way through) and would really appreciate any feedback, suggestion etc plus general motivation to carry me along.

Task force (from Hunt for Voldorius) is

Kor'sarro Kahn on Moondrakken
Command Squad on Bikes
Chaplain on bike
Stormseer and 3 Codiciers on bikes
6 10 man bike squads
10 man Scout squad with snipers and cloaks
2 Devastator Squads
3 x 10 man Assault squads
8 Rhinos (for some reason)
3 Predators
1 vindictaor
and then.............10 (yes10) Thunderhawks.

Due to outrageous costs and size I will be sporting only 1 Thunderhawk but will accompany it with 3 stormravens and 6 Stormtalons.

As you can see from the picture the bulk of bikes and tanks are done. I have the ravens and talons but not yet built and am getting the T hawk in a couple of weeks when 1500pts of this army will be painted and attending Throne of Skulls at Warhammer world. (WIP for t hawk will start shortly after)

This will be GW's first tournament with the escalation and stronghold rules allowed and will be intersting to see how a fluffy non LoW list deals with it (melta,melta,melta)

I think the rhinos are in there because all tactical marines have bikes or something like that so they are the rhinos attached to those squads for when they don't ride in bikes, although someone please tell me if I'm wrong. Shame about not being able to afford the thunderhawks really, because that would look so bad-ass on the table, ah well.

10 thunderhawks would be insane. And cost you the best part of £4000

And i didn't realise GW's tournaments allow the new expansions. I've not looking into them much, but it would surely create some crazy lists?

Yes unfortunatly, well at the Throne of Skulls events at Warhammer world. The lists can be so silly. e.g aquila strong point with macro cannon, storm sword, cotez manning the macro cannon.... Yeah really silly. There is probably a discussion thread in the news and rumours section though.

Yeah, couple of people taking a revenant with shield generator. I figure that in turn 1 I'll be that close in them that they won't be able to hit me with silly guns as they would be hitting themselves.

Ten hawks would fill the table but look immense. I may do 2 depending how the first one turns out.

Will post some close ups of converted command squad and chaplain tomorrow and maybe have the bases finished. 2 storm wing boxes have just arrived tho so may distract my focus.

Will the command squad be white? ...priming them black doesn't seem so helpful...

Yeah, will all be white bar the chaplain and the stormseers right arms. I prime black then airbrush 3 shades of grey up in highlights before doing 3-4 thin layers of white. It adds a just visible pre shade to the white armour. Done the same with the vehicles too. The apoth will be red with white helmet. Not sure what I'm putting on the standard yet.

I wouldn't do the whole apothecary red, that's more of a tech marine colour, although not sure how I would do it though. Maybe do one arm in red and put the symbol on that shoulder pad.

I like that idea Logan. I read somewhere that the apoth's were red in scars but seeing as the stormseers only have a blue arm then maybe the ey should just have a red arm. Nice advice ta

Wayback machine time.

I just looked up the old RT article where medics were introduced. There was a picture of a White Scars apothecary in the color section. His armor was red, except his helmet, backpack, and left shoulder, which were white. His right shoulder had white armor studs and trim, but was mostly red.

There is precedent for apothecaries painting one arm red. I'd have to dig around to find the reference though.

So it was a wierd weekend for me. I was working so didn't get much hobby time but I did manage to resist the shinny box temptation and not build the flyers.

I have until the evening of the 16th Jan to finish my 1500pts and so far do not have a completed model yet so need some motivation.

I have managed to finish the bases as you can see fro the pic but wonder whether I should add some grass tufts to them (not sure if there would be grass in a post apoc ruined city tho) and have now pin washed the post shades to all models.

I have split them into batches of about 5 models to try and attack each night but am really up against time now so we will see.

Basically I have a lot of white models with black wash......

That's a lot to do in not a lot of time. But if you've already done the base/wash, you just need to pick out details. Best of luck making your goal!

From a list standpoint, there are a few things that stand out to me.

Flamers on bikes IMHO are the worst option available. I might keep one squad, just in case you run into someone that needs to be burned out. I'd run a mix of grav and melta squads (2x or the same gun in the squad, not mixed weapon squads) If you don't have grav weapon bits, go with plasma; it's still a good choice.

Siege shields look cool, but are a waste of points unless you are in terrain a lot. If I need to drive through some rough, I just put my faith in the emperor and hope the 1-in-6 chance doesn't come up.

Do you need melta bombs on every sergeant? Particularly the melta bike squads. You have hit and run, the odds of getting stuck in a CC where you would need them are low. I'd rather see combi weapons on half your sergeants then melta bombs on all.

While the LCs on the talon are fine, I don't think they are worth the points over the skyhammers.

This is a massive undertaking given the timeframe, so good luck with that.

The list is ok, but as above, there are a few cases where I'd change things up. I'd keep MB on the squads that don't have melta, as they're going to be in trouble near a tank, whereas the melta squads already have the AT firepower, and if 3 meltas don't kill or cripple a tank, then you're just having a bad day.

Also, I'll second swapping at least one flamer squad for plasma (I find it more useful than grav, personally) but do leave one flamer squad, as with scout and a 12" move, there's a good chance you'll be able to get a good angle with the templates and do good damage early on.

As above on the vindi shield, unless you're intending to drive through buildings it's just 10 points paid to look cool.

Not sure on the shield on the libby, it might be too much for a guy you don't want in CC anyway and can LOS to in shooting.

Ahah, here we are, saves me the trouble of dragging the camera out for a blurry picture:

Go old school! Techmarines were done with yellow accents, hazard stripes, and a hand motif. Not red, and none of this new-fangled AM cog nonsense either.

Curmudgeonly old-timer rants aside, differentiating the apothecary from the rest of the white/red gang is an issue. You might look to his bike for an answer. Possibly keeping the rider the same, but reversing the color scheme on his steed. If you do go with the RT markings, I expect to see a beakie helm on that guy.

I agree about the flamers being too much but have experienced a lot of hordes that when covered with templates really help. On the other hand maybe 6 is TOO many. I originally started playing with Dark Eldar and fell very foul of flamers so probs comes from there.
I won't take plasma as every time I have I roll 1's followed by 1's so gave it up as a bad idea.
Grav don't work for me as I like to keep things fluffy where I can and this section of the task force comes from The Hunt for Voldurius which as with all pre Sept 13 fluff does'nt include Grav. Also thats the reason the seige sheild is in there but I had not even thought about dropping it (now I wil) and finally the melta bombs were more of a points left over thing so that I had something for tanks and MC's in CC.

As for the Libby he has the sheild for the 3++ and EW. With lvl 2he can cast either Pyschic shriek or the re roll on melta and then still use his force sword in combat was the thought.

Only reason for Las on the talon was an AA option that can crucify heldrakes and the like.

Perhaps if i drop the seigesheild and put another squad to melta instead of flamers with the points I will stand more chance againt the effin Lords of war that will be there.

On the note of the apoth I will look at it in a few options but defo agree with the beakie helmet and will swap that soon.

Tonight I am going to try to detail a flamer squad so will hopefully have some photos tomorrow.

Looking for some suggestion/opinion on the tanks too. Should I just have a red stripe going through the groove at the back or I was thinking maybe the whole back red in a diagonal stripe covering half the exhust port but leaving the back door white??

Where are you getting your force list from? Does it break down what each squad has in the way of weapons, or just list squad strength. Just trying to figure out how much wiggle room you have for gear. Anything not explicitly listed can be filled in with what you need. If there are plasma guns listed in there that you refuse to use do to bad luck, you could probably swap them out for grav guns without problem. Fluff is a flexible thing, GW ret-cons stuff all the time. We won't begrudge you a little yourself. I'm sure if they re-do that force list with the new codex in mind, there would be some grav in there.

Your probs right Nevelon and there is no mention of loadout in the book so can put what I like i suppose. Just not sure about the grav. Thinking cap is firmly on now. Plus If i change anything then I now have more white and wash to do aarrrrggghhhh.

I knew about the tournament ages ago but kept building other things instead of painting like chaplains or Nurgle reaver titans. Bottom line is that I prefer building and converting to painting I suppose.

Well I've not done the batches I suggested I would but have started to fill the black on all the bikes and have done all the capes in base red. I have to be honest just basing the capes gives the colours such contrast that it has surged my enthusiasm and I now can't wait till tomorrow night when I can add the rest of the base colour. Will upload the photo of capes tomorrow as my iPad doesn't seem to like photos for some reason. (Probably and Apple control thing).

Pic as promised. They look crude at the moment but I have faith that I will get them cleaned and to a good standard (I hope).

Tonight will see the other red areas, metalics and some detail that needs adding so should have a minimum of base coat or I made just finish a full squad.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome as always and thanks for all the comments so far. Not long until the Thunderhawk (*stop thinking about it Martin and get on with the task in hand*)

Sooooooooo, I have just got back from games night at my local GW and have changed the list up as suggested above by some of you guys.

Dropped the siege shield, dropped a flamer squad and melta bombs off the other 2 melta units. Added another unit plus attack bike with mm and 2 melt as. Played my cousin who is also going next week and although I lost on points it was an epic game with bad dice rolls on both sides, me not getting more than a wound with a total of 9 melta shots and Neil rolling 3 1's in the same time for lookout sir and losing 3 wounds off his lord on juggernaut.

End result is I now have to paint another attack bike and another 2 melta bikes.

As for painting I have done most of the base coat on most of the bikes and am still on track to have them finished for Sunday leaving till Thursday to do the ranks, talons and characters. Cutting it fine but it is looking okay.

Will get some pics up later or tomorrow of where I'm up to now.

Also gonna drop las on talon but don't know what to spend my spare 24 points on? Thoughts???

Toys for your sergeants? Combis if they lack them, or if Khan is planning on joining their squad and heading into CC, a power weapon? If you are not planning on keeping any shooting powers on your librarian (depending on what chart you use) an auspex can be nice to have.

Or just add another bike to one of the squads.

May give 2 of the Sergs combi meltas for the extra tank popper. Can't do auspex as the Libby either uses psychic shriek or is in combat. That will take care of the points then. On with the painting then I guess.

Cheers mate. I have now also just found out that with immediate effect you can use forge world and imperial armour models and rules (including experimental) at the tournaments so I'm even more screwed than originally. Effin GW screwing up again....

I wouldn't worry about FW too much, most of it is no more powerful than a lot of codex stuff (Triptides, Serpent Spam, Aircrons), and a good deal of it is arguably worse than the codex equivalents.

The biggest danger is unfamiliarity, but it's your opponent's responsibility (And good courtesy) to explain exactly what everything does before the game starts, and your right to ask, so be sure to clarify what you're up against and it should be fine.

Yeah I know it's not all that bad. My problem is just that at 1500 points I have written a balanced fluffy list cos they bleat on about it being a friendly tournament rather than a tiered table over competitive one. Maybe I'll go to the next one with my thunderhawk and see what happens. I'm probably just moaning and over annoyed at the prospect of dropping £60 on a ticket to face up to the super heavies........although with 6 meltas 3 multi meltas and 3 combi meltas I may be ok. Might be a nice extra 3 vp's I suppose. Hopefully no servo skulls to stop me scouting close up hahahahaha
