Greetings!

This is long time lurker Rico, from Play Unplugged (http://www.playunplugged.com) and Four-Color Studios (http://www.four-colorstudios.com). I took the plunge into game retail by opening a small online shop called The Thrifty Wargamer (http://thriftywargamer.com). My goals in doing so are to: 1. Highlight miniatures, games, and hobby supplies that are a substantial value in the hobby. 2. Open a small foundry to produce miniatures in house. 3. Fund future expansion to a brick & mortar outlet.

The Thrifty Wargamer also includes a general news blog featuring product highlights, game overviews, and photos from play-tests. I'm also in the process of revamping and moving The Painting Detail (a series I started on Play Unplugged) over to The Thrifty Wargamer, where it will be a better fit.

If you have a local brick & mortar, and they treat you well, please continue to support them! They are an important part of our community. However, if your local game store cannot carry these items, or an LGS is not available near you, I want to earn your trust and business.

-Rico

Strange Aeons crawls into The Thrifty Wargamer online store!

Strange Aeons is a pulp/horror skirmish game inspired by Lovecraft's mythos. Players take on the role of Threshold operatives, battling the indescribable and hidden evils that threaten to tear the world apart, or the Lurkers, the shadowy worshippers of forgotten gods, who spread chaos and madness throughout the world. Your operatives will gain experience, abilities, and insanities, as they face ever increasing threats from the terrifying beyond!

I'm from the future. The future of space

I'm a huge fan of the goal system. I think I have every product ever published for it. I have a Delves campaign coming up shortly.

I also notice you carry Osprey Publishing's line of wargames. I'm pretty astounded at what good games they are and their price.

I'm definitely looking forward to the SuperSystem 4th Edition Kickstarter and getting a physical copy of the game.

EDIT: Just read the Designer's Log 2 post and actually found it surprising that I was thinking the exact same thing reading through GoalSystem Delves. I made myself character sheets for my players that don't just have "Class" as a catch all, but actually breaks down everything that you do with it in the course of a game into what is essentially separate stats.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

That is awesome! I'm glad to hear you love Goal System! I'll pass it on to Scott.

I'd love to see some pics from your Delves campaign. We worked hard on that KS campaign, and I'm glad players are out enjoying the game.

I just played in a playtest of SuperSystem 4E, and I think players will find this is the best version of the game yet. I know everyone says that about the latest version of a set of rules, but it really was a great time. I'm looking forward to when we launch it on Kickstarter.

I was just reading through my copy of Dux Bellorum http://thriftywargamer.com/collections/dark-ages/products/dux-bellorum-arthurian-wargame-rules and thinking how great the Osprey gaming books are as a whole, great presentation and a lot of bang for your buck.

I need to work out international shipping rates, but I haven't yet. It can get quite complicated to estimate, but once I have a system that works, I'll post it.

Supersystem is a great Heros and villians game, and gives me my COH fix on occasion.

Dungeon Delves is great.

What size are those Strange Eons figures? They seem from that picture to be at around 25-28mm, is that correct?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Greetings Grot 6! We haven't chatted since the Delves KS, but it's great to hear you are still loving Delves. I'm making an effort to be more involved in the Dakka community, so hopefully we'll chat more.

The Strange Aeons figures are on the heroic end of 28mm. I can try to rustle up some comparison shots, but they seem to scale well with most modern 28s. For example, I've used them with Artizan's cultist miniatures and they fit right in.

I actually ended up getting SuperSystem not for super heroes, but for a better set of rules for using my 40k miniatures since I had long ago stopped playing GW's rules for that universe. In comic book super heroes, you can have pretty much everything from big monsters to ray guns, to power armour and all sorts of other stuff. The system worked great for representing a space-fantasy game like 40k. The construction system is certainly robust enough and the underlying game system has already proven itself in multiple genres.

International shipping can be a challenge. USPS really cranked up the costs for shipping outside the US about a year ago. I can get things shipped across the Pacific for less than from Seattle to Vancouver.

Greetings Wargamers!

I am super excited to announce that I am now casting pewter miniatures, and I will be offering them for sale right here at The Thrifty Wargamer!

My casting workshop is a modest beginning, but I have big aspirations that will be fulfilled with hard work and elbow grease. I have licensed historical molds from Prince August, a mold and figure company located in Ireland, that has a rich history in our hobby. The first figures I will be offering our an awesome range of 40mm vikings. These will work great with any set of Dark Age skirmish miniature game rules, but I am also developing my own set of rules.

The future will hold much more, including a range of 54mm Napoleonic figures and tons of step-by-step painting guides that will be posted on The Painting Detail section of The Thrifty Wargamer.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you,

-Rico

Doing your own castings sounds pretty cool. I was thinking of getting into oil painting 54mm historical figures, so I'll be starting to look at my options for that.
