I'm trying to make some decent-looking all plastic Roman cavalry. I have the Wargames Factory box, and they're.... okay. Detail is a little soft, but I plan to use Warlord Roman Auxilia heads which are a little nicer, and as the human eye is drawn to the head of a mini, should help disguise some of the softness of the rest of the rider.

On the other hand, the horses used in the set aren't great. Both Warlord and Perry have sprues of horses available, has anyone tried this to see if it'll fit? Or any alternatives (I'm thinking that the GW LotR horses would be good, scalewise, but can't find any right now)?

Thanks.

Much though I love DakkaDakka, you ought to ask this question in the The Miniatures Page forums. There are many more Ancients players over there.

I don't have any of the plastic horses from anyone. I should think there will be differences in equipment between mediaeval and Roman cavalry -- the tack, I mean.

For example the Romans didn't have stirrups, though these are probably moulded on the riders' legs.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I've been trying to remember my username/pw for TMP for years. Guess I might as well just start again as a new user.

I'm not sure how historically they would fit but I love Fireforge's plastic horses. I get mine from hoardobits.com in the USA but unsure of any bits sellers in the UK that would have them.
