Heres what happened. I moved my Land Raider that was transporting troops 6 inches, stopped and fired its weapons. my opponents turn came, fired, and didnot assault cuz he is tau. he then moved his crisis in front of my tank so my troops could not get out of the front hatch. My next turn came and i disembarked my troops with out moving the tank. Now, based on what i am reading "After disembarkin models may shoot but may not assault UNLESS the vehicle is opened topped, a LAND RAIDER or did NOT MOVE before the passengers disembarked." He told me i could not assault because the came out of the side hatch instead of the front hatch.

My Interpretation of the rule - since it did not move, is a land raider, i can assault out of any hatch. same with a Rhino, if it did not move that turn, i can assault troops out of the rear/side hatches no matter what, unless they are all blocked.

You can assault on more than one ground. It doesn't matter which hatch you exit from if the vehicle doesn't move. And even if you did move, you were a Land Raider, so you could still have assaulted from any hatch.

He's using a fluff argument that's nowhere in the rules. Explain to him why he's wrong and proceed to butcher his army.

Yeah, that's how it goes. The exemption is assualting out of a Land Raider, making no distinction from what part of the Land Raider they're coming from.
