Brilliant unit. However, I prefer the dual scatter lasers. More bang for the bucks. And if a Farseer with guide or presience is around, you get even more hits.

agreed, I always run dual scatter, scatter/BL isnt a favorite of mine as your taking an anti armor weapon and an anti inf weapon. Reduces unit effectiveness IMO

It's killier without guide than dual scat. But you sacrifice a lot of range.

My favorite load outs are Double Bright Lance, Double Scatter Laser; both with Guide/Prescience and finally SL/Starcannon. 1 less shot than Shuri-cannon but it's always AP2 and has range. If you really want SL/Shuri-Cannon then you'd be better off with Vypers.

Im hoping nettchik doesnt look here but the scatter and lance combo is nowhere near as effective as double scatter or double lance. mixed roles=bad

I'm somewhat thankful that my wife has chosen to forgo these, they are super glass cannons.

Not really. They have a 5++ which is great. If you stand them behind an Aegis w/ Holo-fields they have a 3+ cover. For 70 points you get to choose twice from the 3 best weapons (85 w/ Holo-fields; EML and Shuri-cannon are pretty meh). I'd say they are a better investment points-wise than Dark Reapers. Don't forget they have Fleet and Battle Focus so they can run and shoot too. Keep them at max range, move up, shoot and run back.

So is it better for them to be equipped with 2 BL? I use them mainly as a Anti tank team, and yes,I ran my list with Farseer

I prefer the SL/BL combo tbh. You can attack anything in the game and be effective. Yes, the Lance isn't the best against hordes, but killing a guy is still killing a guy. Also, I use them for attacking fliers as well. Shooting the SL and potentially twin-linking the Lance is nice. Guide or Prescience obviously helps this out too.

I mainly like it because no mater what you face you have an answer for. This is one of the few units in the game where mixing isn't "bad" imo.

7th Edition Tournament Record:

15-2

War in the Mountain GT: Best Overall, 6-0 Dark Eldar

Bugeater GT: 4th, Tournament Runner Up, 5-1 Dark Eldar

Wargamescon: 7th, Best Dark Eldar. 4-1

If you have guide or prescience, why do you need the SL with your BL? All you are doing is reducing your chance to kill the flier outright while also making the walker ineffective vs both armor and troops.

Guide or not, you are just gimping your unit by splitting its roles. There are countless threads talking about this, both with math and with tactical concerns being made. The Eldar list has no need for a split role generalist, it just waters down the unit and makes it easier to ignore.

I'll agree with you as far as SL/BL goes, yeah its a bad idea. Double BL is far superior. But SL is perfect for pairing with the Star Cannon. If you have the SL, that means you can cast Guide/Prescience on another unit like Dire Avengers or a Fire Prism or Warp Spiders.

Star Cannon, Star Cannon is superior to SL/Star Cannon. But personally I always go for dual BL because War Walkers are the ideal place to spam them. That, or all-out SLs

if you move forwards then you can only shoot one of your guns right? this is the main issue I see with War Walkers, they have to stay where they are or they lose half their power, ok they can battle focus run but that isnt very much movement.

you are confusing walkers with vehicles.

see page 84 of the BRB. by your logic even dreadnoughts would have to be stationary to fire both guns.

This is dead wrong. You can move, fire both weapons at full BS, and run all in the same turn. If you keep them at max range behind some LoS blocking terrain, they are very survivable. Move out, shoot, run back behind terrain. Also they are fleet, so the run is rerollable.

Errr....nooooouuupe. If they run they can't shoot, just like infantry.

I think someone else in the thread said they have Battle Focus. (Don't have my codex on me to confirm, but I believe the guy as I have no reason not to.)

So, that's not true in the case of War Walkers. Battle Focus allows any units with that special rule to run and then shoot, or vice-versa.

cheers. I got a bit confused and thought he was referring to walkers in general, since a little bit earlier another guy had gotten confused about walkers moving and firing 2 weapons.

Dual scatterlasers all the way. For versatility, mostly. Second best option I think is dual Brightlances, followed by Scatterlaser/Starcannon combo.

Mixing roles aren't really a good idea on any unit, tbh. Because you're always shooting at something with half the efficiency, it's not worth it, especially on an expensive platform like the War Walkers.
