So, I've been working on this on and off for a little over a year. There is a fairly detailed build log in P&M blogs but the TL;DR version is I built the whole thing out of styrene "No Parking" signs I bought from Lowe's, some resin, and various bits. I also got a lot of help from various people on this forum, especially MeanGreenStompa who supplied some bits and a lot of inspiration and Whembly who supplied various bits of casting advice.

This will be using the Ork "Kustom" Battle Fortress rules from IA 8.

Wargear: Deathrolla (represented by spiked treads), turret mounted Supa-Kannon, Zzap Gun, Twin-Linked Rokkit Launcha, 4 pintle-mounted Big Shootas, 4 Grot sponsons, Grot riggers, Boarding Plank.

All of the weapons except the grot sponsons are easily removable so I can swap them out - they're all attached with 1/8" tubing as pegs.

The 2nd level with the oil drums and ammo crates, even though you can't see it, is a real nice touch. I love the giant tracks. I wanna shake the hand of the Mekboy that put this beast together.

My small bit of CC would be that I feel the cab should be more armored. A little too exposed for my taste. But other than that this is superb. Yet another reason to love the Orks! Well done sir.

This is a great criticism. I actually bought some clear sheeting at the outset of this (like, January 2013) to make shuttered windows and to be frank just sort of forgot about them - as I got up to the part where I was doing the cab, I also started trying to work in a Deffrolla. I couldn't really make the Deffrolla work the way I want and the shutters fell by the wayside as I moved on.

It's possible at some point I might update this thread if I can get the Deffrolla to my liking and I'll also retrofit in the shutters. Generally speaking though once I post something in the showcase I move on, and what is much more likely is that I will just incorporate this criticism into my next model. On the other hand, the top deck comes off for a reason, it is possible I may want to make a 'Ard Case addon with some kind of giant turret later. We'll see.

I don't like painting models, and I don't even play anymore, but I love building them. I can look at Wazzoo's stuff for hours and just feel my mind explode with ideas. So, this was my first large scratchbuild vehicle, but it definitely will not be my last. I learned a lot of lessons on this - a big one was that I really had no plan for pretty much any of it right up to the very end when I had to redesign the top deck element.

That is absolutely fething awesome.
The last shot of them all with the LED lights on is brill.

That's an amazing model, and I love that in classic ork fashion the driver is front and center with basically no protection. The LEDs add a whole new level of awesome too!

Just reminded me of the reason I always wondered why a terminator/space marine would go into battle with no helmet on (you see plenty of models like that)... On a 6 to hit you should just be able to shoot them in the forehead and take them down with no save haha.

That's an astoundingly epic model. It would have been amazing, and then you kicked it up another level with the LEDs. Fantastic!

I can see both sides of the 'unarmored cockpit' debate. It does look really exposed, but on the other hand, it's so great to see the models! Maybe some 'blast shutter' style doors (even hinged on the sides, rather than the top? I could see the "looted doors" armor plating of a trukk being used to good purpose.

It's a shame you don't game, as it would be incredible to play against something that superb. Heck, I'd like to see an opponent's face when you plonked that thing down in your deployment zone!

Many pictures There is a long build log here where you can see it from nothing to finished. There was no paint on until page 5 (of 6). Here is one of the WIP pictures from that log, below, if you don't feel like reading through it - note that it wasn't completely riveted yet, and so on.



The only things that I did not build from no parking signs or resin were: The Forgeworld Supa-Kannon, the one miscast Ultramarine land raider ramp on the left side, the 2 Kromlech turrets, the Big Shootas, the barrels on the inside, the various glyphs and small bits, and the Orks and Grots.

No - I made it of resin, and I describe how I did so on page 6 (last post!) of the above mentioned worklog.



If you don't want to read through it, I essentially glued a resin rod to a 1/8" acrylic stick, and chucked it into a dremel tool, and then turned it at low speed. Then I ran a hobby knife along it to shape it like a halfass lathe. This technique doesn't work very well at all - the other side is all lopsided and flat. However since they were going into those little boxes, I really only needed them to look good on one side.

I wish I had access to a jewelry lathe or something like that. I'm sure I wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost though.

It's nice to be able to finaly see it when you can call it complete I was watching the build and the frustration at times... I know how it goes and ya get a bit burnt out working on the same thing for what feels like ferever. Nice to see ya made it...

Now I got to get a move on, and finish weathering my battle fortress so I too can call it done...
