I've just been reading the wiki about cypher, and how he's the most superest speciallist fallen angel ever.

It said that most think he's got some super secret evil plan to try and kill the emperor or something, but does that sound like the kind of thing that would happen to you?

So anyway, this is basically a post asking for your opinion on the matter, if you think he's actually evil, what you think would make a good story, how you think GW will advance his story arch, if at all. The usual.

Keep it mysterious, otherwise the Dark Angels' fluff kind of goes flat. Plus its not a priority to the universe so you can only lose by shining more light on it.

Cypher's agenda doesn't align with either Chaos nor the Imperium, which is what's so great about him. He's been spotted leading Black Legion terminators into battle, and he's also been spotted saving entire platoons of Guardsman against overwhelming Chaos forces.

40k won't lose it's appeal to me if they ever resolve anything in the fluff. I'm interested what the Black Library people think would be a fitting end for him. Personally, I think it'd be awesome if Abaddon made it into the Golden Throne's chamber, then was struck down by Cypher with the sword he's never drawn. Would be so climactic, and fitting.

If he wanted to kill The Emperor then that means that either:

a) He thinks or knows that killing him will result in a rebirth of some description due to being a perpetual.

or

b) He wants to screw over the Imperium by knocking out the Astronomicon.

or

c) something else entirely

I kind of always believed Cypher is a manifestation of the Lion himself, while his body sleeps in the rock his mind is busy in the body of Cypher.

I like to think he's Alpharius (or Omegon)

Or he might be Luther - just because.
I know he's meant to be locked up screaming in the rock somewhere, but it'd be cool if he was still bombing about while the Lion sleeps.

One of the reasons I believe he might be the Lion is Luthers mad ramblings of how the Lion will return, it sounds more like he is off doing something than he is having the universes longest 40 winks down the corridor.

Cypher is a space marine. He's not Luther or Alpharious. Its hinted that he is from an old knight house on Caliban that the lion destroyed. Also hinted he turned Luther to chaos. It may turnnout that he's in a quest for redemption or he just wants to really screw with the imperium. Also, chaos will screw over chaos for its own goal. So just because he did one good dead doesn't mean that he's a nice guy.

Personally, I really considered writing a story about him because he's a cool character. In my mind, he's made a mistake and he knows it. He witnesses Luther stay his hand against the lion and realized his error. Takes the lion sword and because he's aware of all dark angel secrets know that the sword is the final key to open the secret room within the rock where the watchers hold a comatose lion. The only reason he's not done anything yet is because he's farming items and making deals for a massive plan centuries in the making. All this for absolution.

Cypher's sword is canonically the Lion Sword, and broken. That's why he never draws it.

He's basically 40k's answer to Aragorn, only he actually manages to be more awesome. Could still be played by Viggo Mortensen though.

He could be Alpharius, Alpharius was specifically capable of passing as a normal Marine, heh. I don't think he is Alpharius, but I'm not going to rule it out.

My personal theory is that he's going to reawaken the Emperor, but keeps getting side-tracked making sure the C'tan don't break free and screw the galaxy over completely first.

From what I've always read about him I don't think he's necessarily turned to chaos, he just has his own agenda and allies himself with whoever he needs at the time. He makes use of the warp and chaos followers to achieve his goals, yet he has also come to the aid of the Imperium and even Dark Angels on some occassions.

I am not really a fan of the DA, so the amount of grief that Cypher causes them in the fluff makes me chuckle. If I could choose to be any one character in 40k, it would undoubtedly be him.

In my mind, Cypher is the only one in the whole Dark Angels background who is essentially honest with himself.

The Fallen genuinely fell to Chaos. The loyalist DA's didn't but also covered up for the ones who did. It's almost exactly like finding out your friends killed a bunch of guys and then not going to the cops about it.

Cypher seems to be in the middle... Chaos exists, but fighting it makes us stronger.

The feth? No, Cypher is a rank within the Dark Angels, the records keeper and preserver of the old ways. It's the job of the Cypher to ensure the old ways of the Order on Caliban never meet extinction, and oversee them as they're executed- typically a veteran of the Order/Dark Angels. The current Cypher is either the old Cypher just before the HH (IIRC, the person who trained Zahariel and Nemiel) or he was killed/ceded his role and one of the older Dark Angels from the HH took over the position before the fall.

If you remember, Be'Lakor's plans never seem to line up with Chaos' Will either, but...

It is quite funny that the Lord of Change is so much more charismatic and iconic than Tzeentch when it comes to that meme...

I think hes a traitor, but not to chaos.
Mainly because of the whole Black Templar Dark Angel dispute.

One thing is for sure, what he knows is a danger to the Dark Angels.

Luther, Cypher and many other Fallen are loyal, while the Dark Angels secretly have fallen to Chaos. In the final battle, they will reveal their true colours and backstab the Imperium. That is the true secret of the Dark Angels.

Cypher met a member of the cabal and is doing their work, along with the Alpha Legion, only he doesn't work directly with them because he's so mysterious!

Cypher will save EVERYONE!

I bet Cypher is loyal guy who finished Lionel after falling to Chaos. He is helping to IoM but with harsh style
