Ok so I know which CSM legions I like, but I have a real hard time making the decisive decision, so I'll leave it to the community.

I like all legions in the poll equally. Things to note, I'm not a good painter, I would say average at best. I also enjoy having an army nobodys seen before.

Thanks all!

Personally like death guard as they have the most fun for conversions and painting being nurgle and stuff.

Second would be alpha legion for mua.

NL and AL are probably the hardest to paint out of those 4, the NL have trickly lightning effects and the AL are supposed to have scales.

If you want to be unique I'd advise you stay well away from DG.

I like Word Bearers lookswise because it opens up a lot of cool modeling opportunities, like scrolls and text and stuff everywhere, not to mention the use of daemons and daemon bits. Most fun from a modeling perspective IMO. Stuff like script and lots of seals etc is difficult, but hey, no time like the present to learn.

Nurgle just doesn't do it for me. I like the fluff and aesthetic but when it gets down to it, modeling pus and bloated flesh and guts everywhere just really isn't fun to me and I've seen it so much it's kinda getting old.

I vote Alpha Legion. They are EVERYWHERE. Even if you do another Legion, AL has their hands in there.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

I'm a night lords fan, so I voted for them. that said, if ease of painting is a primary concern then word bearers are a great option. you can paint them up to a very nice table-top standard pretty easily.

The problem I have with AL is that, I feel I would be doing them missjustice if I was to run with Helbrutes and Jetpack units, daemon princes etc.

Deathguard are awesome, but are so common.

Well, are you going for tournament play or are you going for a fluffy list for fun games. I prepare an AL detachment for the later purpose and while I see no problem with raptors, I avoid anything demonic or otherwise unfitting. Going to have a squad of plasma-cannon armed havocs, salvaged from the DV-set dark angels, on an opponent's approval-basis to make up for demonic allies.

word bearers-
1. awesome hobbying potential. These guys beg for conversions.
2. Crimson slaughter. Yes, you can run a demonically possessed chaos lord (reminds me of forsaken lords in fantasy.
3. Crimson slaughter. You can finally put together a Dark apostle worthy of being a leader of leading your warband (+2 armor save, sweet weapon, then toss in mark of nurgle + palanquin). When I do the mark + palanquin combo I rarely model it as nurgle. Having an Apostle being carried around on a palanquin by cultists seems pretty cool.
4. Their fluff lets you field almost any army configuration.

I picked death guard because to me they got the baddest name in the list. Not that I know anything about the fluff but anyways there you go

Would it be strange for Alpha legion to have a Daemon prince/Spawn?

Night lords and alpha legion are great, but they require good painting skills to really get them to look nice. Without those, I'd go for word bearers, as I can't think of a MORE common CSM army type than nurgle.

I'd love to field a Night lords army, but I'm not sure I could do there awesome scheme justice. Although there Lore is one of my favourites.

Unusual, yes. They are more renegade than Chaos.

Word Bearers love Daemon Princes and Spawn will all their dual hearts!

Word bearers, they leave so much more open for conversions than Deathguard, and are a far less common sigth

I feel that with word bearers, rather than being noticeably Word bearers they would be mistaken as Khorne CSM which would be annoying.

It's easy to avoid looking like Khorne if you focus on metallics being silver/gunmetal and avoid bronze, as it's only really red+bronze that make people think Khorne.

I'd vote for WB, as they are uncommon, have a very nice paint scheme (I painted my DV marines up as WB and love them) and are arguably the most chaotic of the legions.

Hmm thanks for that. Would you by any chance have them on hand to upload?

I say NL simply due to how rarely they are done, one of my favorite Chaos Legions and it would seem they are the rarest both in fluff and modelling from what I have personally seen. As a caveat though the paint job would be tricky, but with some practice you could probably find a good technique for doing the lightning.
